Chapter 24 Teaser
Chapter 24 Teaser
Lea's POV
The campus was over crowded.
I regretted my decision to come as soon as we set foot on the ground.
There was a huge crowd surging all around.
" Come on, Lea. Let's get in from the back. ”
Phill grabbed my hand as he took me through the side entrance and eventually we got in from a vip entrance.
I didn't know people knew Phill out of hospitals but they apparently did. One of the managers came out himself and greeted him as they led us in.
The place was too loud. The bass of the music shook the foundation of the building.
We were shown inside a waiting place that opened into a balcony. From there we could directly look at the stage.
The wave of the crowd surrounded the stage as the beam lights danced along with the neon ones.
And then the crowd erupted into loud cheers and roared as the first band took the stage.
The lead singer took the microphone in his hand walking forward with swag and style as the other members checked their own mics and instruments.
" My heartiest congratulations to the batch of 2020," another wave of applause followed his gesture.
" Your hard work has paid and studies are over... shall we get into the groove? ” He pointed the mic towards the crowd as their screams deafened my ears.
" Okay house... It's time to roll! ”
He started jumping along with the beat as the music erupted in the background.
I could see Phill enjoying the music with hoots and cheers while still keeping an eye on me. I smiled and tapped my feet to the rhythm but somehow the environment made me miss Jake even more.
My eyes travelled all around the place, leaving the stage because the lead singer was definitely giving me more of Jake's vibe. Or perhaps it was my mind playing tricks once more.
As my eyes travelled hither and tither while my body pretended to move to the beat, I froze.
My eyes came to a rest on the massive posters that were displayed.
Somehow both Phill and I had missed it completely.
My eyes fell on the poster where along with a bunch of other people, Jake's picture was nestled in the corner.
My grip around the railing tightened. My breathing became laboured.
Phill's eyes immediately followed my vision and he too froze as he realised the situation we had put ourselves in.
" I am extremely sorry, Lea. I had no idea that he was coming. Let's go. Let me take you home. "
He immediately grabbed my hand and was about to pull me out when I stood my ground.
" Where will we go in the middle of this Jake? We could barely make our way in here. The crowd outside is surging and we will not be able to make our way out without bumping into people... we might even bump right into him. ”
Deep down I knew that I wanted it. I needed it. I needed to bump into him accidentally so I could squeeze into his arm and feel his warmth even for the split of a second.
It would be enough to fuel my survival for a few more days, I presumed.
Another part of me just wanted to watch him sing.
I was tucked away from the crowd, at a higher altitude. There was no way he could see me. But I could see him. I could fill my soul, watch him to my heart's content and feel whole once more.
I knew my argument was weak but Phill understood.
"As you wish, " He said pretending to get back in the mood, grooving.
A few more people joined us because the place was getting too packed.
They cheered and whistled while I waited with my heart threatening to leap out of my rib cage.
And then they called out his name.
The crowd went berserk.
" He is finally here! I swear I came just to watch him. ”
The girl standing beside me chirped.
" I know right. Jake is so handsome. I never knew they still made men this cute. "
The other woman standing with her literally drooled over my Jake, yelling and jumping , about to fall off.
I clenched my fists, a gust of jealousy threatened to take over my senses but then a dash of pride overrode the jealousy.
My Jake had come a long way.
I could be more proud of him.
And then he appeared on stage.
I heart stopped.
I wanted to run and hug him.
Tears prickled at the corner of my eyes as a lump formed inside my stomach.
Phill walked past the jumping girls and came behind me. He bent down and whispered in my ears.
" Lea, are you alright? We can still leave if you want. ”
I shook my head. I needed to see him.
I was filling the holes inside of me, like a camel that stores water for hydration before a long journey across the desert.
" Hello everyone. It's so nice to come here. I am extremely sorry that I came late.
Due to an emergency, I will need to leave early. But I didn't want to leave before performing at least one song for you guys. I love young people who are passionate. ”
The crowd jeered and cheered at the same time, disappointed that he needed to leave early but still decided to stay to meet them.
" This is an unreleased song. It was something that I wrote when I still had not dreamt of entering this industry, let alone dream of making it this far. I am hoping to release it soon but like promised, you guys get the first teaser. ”
The crowd went into a frenzy as he closed his eyes and hummed in the microphone.
I could not blink, afraid that I would lose on precious time in my observation. I sad to savour every second, every moment, every essence of that moment.
And then as he continued humming, I knew exactly what he was about to sing.
He lied to his audience. They weren't the ones who would get the first teaser, I was.
