Chapter 25 Missing
Chapter 25 Missing
Jake's POV
As the guitarist hit the cord and I grabbed the mic to hum the note, my eyes closed automatically.
The sea of people in front of me vanished. I was back on top of the mountains. Lea was right in front of me where I could touch her.
She smiled as she heard me hum and I loved to see that I made her smile like that. And it went like -
"In the echo of our whispers, I hear eternity's call,
But the tears in your eyes paint a different wall.
Promises of forever, now shattered like glass,
Our love's flame flickers, fading into the past.
(Chorus)
Forever together, yet forever apart,
Two souls entwined, but torn at the heart.
In the silence we linger, in love's bitter embrace,
Forever together, yet forever apart. "
I tried to keep my voice steady because of the sheer emotions that the song was bringing back, shook me so much from within that my voice was about to crack.
I had to go back and schedule surgery as soon as was possible. Perhaps it was evening, perhaps it was the air, perhaps it was the amount of sedative that they had given, but a sense of intoxication was spreading over me, which was not a good thing to happen on stage.
I forced my eyes open, bringing myself back to my reality, my present. A reality where there was no Lea and I was under the spotlight.
I tried to lose myself with the rhythm looking at the crowd as they cheered on. They made waves with their hands with the melody, with the rhythm and I looked at all of them with pride.
I looked around the campus for the first time.
It was huge. There were people perched on the balcony as well.
My eyes travelled all over before suddenly stopping at one spot.
I swear my heart stopped.
I swear my mind was playing tricks on me.
I needed to head out and get my treatment done as soon as was possible.
For the split of a second, I thought I saw Lea on one of the balconies.
But the next moment when I looked back, she was gone.
I quickly wrapped up the song and did a little crowd service before heading straight towards the car, accompanied by our company's bodyguards.

Lea's POV
I still remember how I had mocked him for writing such a cringey, romantic song back then. It was great but I had thought it was too emotional and lacked some catch.
I remember suggesting some changes which, as expected Jake had taken into consideration.
However, when I heard him sing it once again, in front of me, so close to me, yet so far away... I wondered if he saw into the future. I wondered if he wrote it for us.
" He has a good voice, ” Phill's voice startled me as he suddenly bent very low and whispered in my ears, so I could hear what he was saying , above the loud speakers. " And a great stage presence too. ”
It was rare to hear Phill compliment and Jake of all people. All I ever heard from him was how irresponsible Jake was. It made my heart swell with pride.
I was lost as I stared at him.
I was lost admiring how he had such a crowd control.
And then suddenly he looked up.
My soul left my body.
I almost tripped over as I jumped up and pulled Phill along.
I could swear his eyes met mine for the split of a second and I was afraid he would come running after me and everything would be ruined.
" Lea slow down! Whoah! Did you forget that you are critically pregnant? "
I was literally pulling Phill along as I scurried down the stairs.
" We need to leave right now. Where is the car ? ”
I asked stupidity over taking my tongue.
" In the parking lot, Lea. Slow down. We are leaving. Don't worry. He isn't chasing after us. ”
Phill stopped me, grabbing my shoulders, shaking me up . I looked into his eyes with panic, pleading to get us out of there.
He interwined his fingers with mine sliding his hand over mine, taking the control and leading this time.
I gladly followed him as we made our way past the waiting crowd towards the parking area.
We still bumped our way into a lot of people as we got to Phill's car.
He made me sit comfortably inside before jumping behind the steering wheel.
He sped up as we drove past everyone.
He drove till we were quite far away and then finally stopped the car in front of a convenience store.
" You want a snack and some water? ” He asked as he unbuckled his seat belt.
" Yes please. Cold water please. ”
I was thirsty. It felt so dry that it seemed I had raced a thousand miles.
As Phill went inside tje convenience store, I turned the rear view mirror towards myself and checked my face and hair. I was a mess. My hair sticking out in odd directions and my eyes looked swollen.
As I pulled back my hair to tie it in a pony tail, I noticed I was missing an ear ring.
I forgot that I was pregnant. I bent over looking for it under my seat and Phill's seat.
" Whoah! Lea, what are you doing? ”
Phill came back right at that moment and he was shocked to find me like that as he opened the door.
" My ear ring... I am missing an ear ring.... ”
I panicked so much, one would think I was missing a kidney.
" Lea, you are pregnant! Did you forget? I can get you another from the market. Sit up. What do you think you are doing? Are you being serious? "
His voice was raised. He looked fed up and angry.
I didn't care. He didn't understand what that ear ring meant for me. I never took it off, ever.
It was a gift from my Jake.
