Chapter 80: Ch 80: Cosmic Essence Core

Chapter 80: Ch 80: Cosmic Essence Core

Now that Emrys had fainted, the scaled red creature dashed toward him with alarming speed. All the red creatures moved to the side and made a straight path for this creature. These creatures were obviously treating it like their leader.

It did not take long for the scaled red creature to arrive in front of Emrys.

"Roar!"

As it arrived in front of the unconscious Emrys, it roared in fury, its fiery breath billowing around it like a tempest. With a menacing growl, it reached out with its claw to grab Emrys.

Shua~

But then, as if time itself had frozen, the scaled red creature stopped in its tracks. Its massive claw is stuck suspended in mid-air. Its eyes were wide with confusion and rage. Strangely, it wasn’t just this creature; all the red creatures at the scene came to a sudden halt, frozen in place as if they were bound by some unseen force.

What happened?

Why can’t we move?

What is this forbidding sensation we are feeling?

If Emrys was awake, he could have clearly seen this kind of human-like expression on these creatures’ monster-like faces.

They were terrified because of the unknown!

Meanwhile, inside Emrys, something seemed to shatter. It was as if a dark space within him had been breached, unleashing a torrent of chaotic energy.

Somewhere deep within Emrys, somewhere where Emrys himself could not see, it was completely dark, so dark that not an inch ahead could be seen, not even blurry.

In the heart of this darkness, a single point of deep red light glowed ominously. If one were to zoom in, one would find an entire new space contained within this red point. Here, the landscape was bathed in blood, the ground and sky both appeared to be drenched in blood, creating an atmosphere of sinister foreboding. At the center of this bloody space floated a man, suspended in the air by nine chains inscribed with mysterious runes. These blood-red chains wound around him, binding him completely and preventing him from making any movement. The base of these chains were both bloody land and the bloody sky.

The man’s features were twisted into a mask of demonic cruelty. His eyes were as dark as the void itself, gleaming with malice and madness. His skin was pallid and gaunt and appeared to be absorbing what little light remained in this blood-soaked realm. Sinister tattoos adorned his body entire, pulsating with dark energy as if alive.

Despite the restraints, the man exuded an aura of dark power and malevolence.

"BOOM!"

All of a sudden, something inside this space seemed to have exploded. Looking closely, one out of nine chains had suddenly shattered for some unknown reason.

As the chain restraining him momentarily shattered, a magical scene took place. The other eight chains slowly retracted from the land and the sky, and completely merged into the man’s body, transforming into eight intersecting tattoos on his naked chest.

The instant the chains transformed into tattoos, it granted the man a brief taste of freedom.

"Hahahahaha!"

The man suddenly let out a chilling laugh that echoed in the entire red space. His laughter appeared to be filled with madness. He did not stop, he continued to laugh and laughed for a very long time.

"Finally," the man whispered after stopping for a moment, his voice sounded like a sinister murmur that was capable of sending shivers down the spine.

"The time of my freedom has come."

His laughter grew louder and louder. He appeared more and more like a manic, filling the red space with its unholy resonance.

And just like that, within the depths of Emrys’s unconscious mind, a malevolent force stirred, its intentions dark and inscrutable.

Although the man was freed, he still remained suspended in the air. When he stopped laughing, his eyes released a dark spark. A fierce shockwave swept over and the entire bloody space began to thrash wildly.

The man then moved. He moved for the first time, but just this movement alone brought chaos within this space. A tsunami full of blood and sharp wind made their appearance inside the space. The man moved, his movements were erratic and filled with a crazed energy.

"For too long, I have been imprisoned in this wretched space. I can still feel the restraints on my body. This is just a fake freedom, but I swear, I will get out of here one day, and when that day arrives, heh..."

The man bellowed, his voice echoing in the red-crimson void. His eyes which were blacker than the deepest abyss burned with a fierce intensity.

As he stepped forward, ripples of power swept through the blood-soaked ground, causing it to shudder and quake. The tattoos on his skin glowed with a malevolent light, pulsing in along with his ragged breaths. His entire being seemed to radiate dark energy, a palpable aura of malice that twisted and warped the very air around him.

"Do you hear me, Ling Xiaolong?" he screamed in fury. "You have given me eternal suffering, but I will return one day. And when I will return, your time of suffering will start. I will be free one day, and when I am, I will unleash a torment upon the world the likes of which it has never seen!"

The man’s face twisted into a hideous grin, revealing his sharp and jagged teeth. His laughter continued. It was as if his entire being was devoid of any sanity or compassion. He threw back his head and roared at the sky.

"I am the harbinger of chaos," he shouted at the bloody sky. "I am the bringer of doom. Now that the first restriction has already broken, how long will it take to break the rest of the restrictions?"

"One year?"

"One thousand years?"

"A hundred thousand years or a million years?"

"No matter how long it takes, I shall wait, wait for my opportunity, wait for my freedom, wait for my revenge!"

The blood on the ground swelled and rippled in response to his terrible power as he spoke. It formed twisted patterns and shapes as it swirled around him. Dark energy seemed to pulse through the entire space. It was as if the world itself was the proof of the man’s malevolent will.

Emrys suddenly opened his eyes, their color shifting from bright silver to devilishly dark. Even the whites of his eyes turned completely dark, and a dark mist slowly radiated from his body.

The scaled red creature and all the other red creatures trembled in fear. Their instincts told them that something horrible was about to happen.

"Hmm?"

Initially appearing confused, Emrys soon regained his composure. He stood up and observed his body closely.

The black mist radiating from his body suddenly attached to all the injuries on his body, writhing like hundreds of worms in one place. Soon enough, every bit of his injuries had completely healed.

"Whose body is this? What about my body?" A deep frown appeared on his face as he muttered, "I should check the memories of the owner of this body first!"

Obviously, it was not Emrys but the man who had taken possession of Emrys’s body, Emrys’s fate unknown.

"Arghhh!"

He closed his eyes and reached Emrys’s mind with his senses, attempting to access it. However, the tattoos of chains on his chest suddenly reacted, causing him to scream in agony. He grabbed his chest and doubled over, trying to endure the searing pain.

"Why now?"

The man shouted in frustration, and despite the pain, he tried to access Emrys’s memories once again. However, the result this time was still the same. In fact, the pain he felt was even more excruciating this time. Obviously, something was preventing him from accessing Emrys’s memories.

"Ling Xiaolong!"

The man cursed the person named Ling Xiaolong again, his heart overflowing with infinite hatred for this individual.

Realizing he couldn’t access Emrys’s memories, he stopped trying and focused on examining the body once more. This time, he delved deeper than the surface. He saw the Soul River and detected the presence of the bead!

His frown deepened. He muttered, "The owner of this body is on the path of souls, yet still a novice. And this bead... it must be the legendary Cosmic Essence Core. With his strong soul and the appearance of this Cosmic Essence Core, it’s clear he’s attempting to cultivate Cosmic Energy. He’s not satisfied with Soul Cultivation; he desires Cosmic Cultivation. What a greedy brat!"

He laughed loudly, paying no mind to the millions of little creatures and the scaled red creature frozen before him. The more Emrys behaved this way, the more terrified these creatures became. They couldn’t discern what was restraining them from moving, but they could sense that the source of everything was Emrys.

These creatures were trembling inwardly, realizing that the current Emrys was far more terrifying than before. If he could restrain them so effortlessly, he was also capable of killing them!

Meanwhile, the man who had taken possession of Emrys’s body muttered, "The appearance of the Cosmic Essence Core is actually not a bad situation for me. I can restart my cultivation in this body and pursue the path of Cosmic Cultivation. This is the legendary method of cultivation forgotten by time. If I succeed in cultivating Cosmic Energy, I’ll be at least a hundred times stronger in the same realm of cultivation."
