Chapter 79: Ch 79: Near Death
Chapter 79: Ch 79: Near Death
Emrys stepped forward and attacked with all his strength. His breathing was heavy, but the energy coursing through him kept him going. His blade moved with lethal precision, cutting down the red creatures in swift, decisive strikes.
With each slash, Emrys could feel the fog binding to his will, responding to his every command. His connection with the bead was already strong; however, as his strength increased, he had a feeling that this beed was not as simple as just a dwelling for the foreign energy; it was much more.
However, this was not the time to inspect the bead. He focused on killing as many red creatures as he could. He was like a whirlwind of death, a blur of motion amid the horde of red creatures. Yet, despite the surge of power, exhaustion was creeping in, gnawing at his muscles and dulling his reflexes.
The node shift allowed Emrys to reposition himself strategically; he could use this ability one more time today. But what would he do after that?
It seems like this place will become his grave, a grave where not even his bones will be left.
Wait!
Maybe only the bones will be left.
As Emrys recalled the pit filled with white bones, he sighed bitterly. It seemed he was going to become a part of those bones very soon. Only now did he realize the reason behind the pit filled with bones.
Not only the foggy energy but even his soul force was being drained rapidly. He knew he had to conserve his strength, but with the sheer number of enemies, there was no room for restraint.
"Flying Blade Skill!"
He had not executed his skills before, but now that he was becoming more and more exhausted, he decided to struggle with all his might.
His blade sliced through three more red creatures simultaneously as it slashed through the air, creating a silver arc. Then he stopped and started gasping in a crouching position. Obviously, he had started getting tired once again.
Although Emrys topped, the red creatures did not. They were already surrounding him, once he stopped, they swarmed at him like like a group of hungry beasts pouncing on only one piece of meat.
"Roar!"
It was also now that the giant-scaled red creature roared again. It was louder than before, sending a wave of fury and urgency through its minions. The red creatures surged forward with their eyes glowing with bloodlust.
Emrys gritted his teeth, pushing past the pain and fatigue that threatened to overwhelm him. He already had a feeling that death was approaching him, but even so, he was ready to struggle once again. He was not planning to go down without putting forth his complete effort.
Several red creatures lunged at him simultaneously.
Emrys sidestepped, wanting to reposition himself but he staggered a little as his body began to ache from the ongoing struggle. His body was severely injured, and such injuries are generally impossible to recover from without a healing medication or recovery position.
In a desperate bid to gain some ground, Emrys focused his soul force on his blade, and again infused it with the fog.
"Clngg~"
The blade trembled and created a strange noise. Then it started to glow with an eerie light all of a sudden. Emrys did not think too much and swung the blade, unleashing a powerful shockwave that sent the red creatures flying. The ground shook, and a momentary lull fell over the battlefield.
But such a response was brief. The red creatures regrouped immediately and started attacking him.
Emrys could feel the ground tremble under the might of these weak creatures. However, he was too exhausted to act anymore. His vision blurred for a moment, but he hurriedly shook his head to clear it.
He didn’t notice but the dark cross mark on his face seemed to pulse. All Emrys could feel was waves of discomfort that were running through his body.
He knew he couldn’t afford to lose focus, for his survival hangs by a thin thread as of this moment. It is sad that he was not in a position to control his own body. Too much blood had flowed out, coupled with physical as well as mental exhaustion, and Emrys was on the verge of fainting.
"Puff!"
As several red creatures pounced on him, Emrys was unable to put up any sort of struggle this time and was sent flying. He spat out a mouthful of blood and collided against a black tree, breaking it apart.
"Is this the end?"
Emrys looked at the red sky above his head and muttered. The moon still looked too close but was extremely far.
For a moment, several images started flashing in Emrys’s eyes. His parents’ laughter, his joy, his childhood, recent events such as the awakening of his Soul Mark, the rise in his cultivation, as well as his encounter with Elysia Nightshade and Serafina Gracia, several such images flashed in front of his eyes.
"Looks like the saying that people would see their life flashing before eyes at the moment of their death is true!"
Emrys sighed with unwillingness.
"I don’t want to die, not yet!"
"I have to destroy the Darkborne Family and families that are supporting them!"
"I have to fulfill the promise that I made to my mother!"
"I... I at least want to see Mom and Dad for the last time..."
"I... I have to..."
Emrys’s eyes slowly blurred, and a moment later, his eyes closed. He was not dead yet, he had just fainted and was on the verge of death!
By now, the cross mark had already extended to his neck as well.
"Roar!" "Roar!" "Roar!"
The red creatures did not pounce on the dying Emrys, instead, they raised their heads at the sky and roared loudly, as if celebrating their victory.
For a moment, the entire space was filled with deep roars. These roars were enough to frighten anyone, even creatures with five circle patterns in their eyes.
"Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!"
The ground suddenly started shaking heavily every two seconds. A loud sound of a giant creature’s footsteps echoed in the air. The land seemed to beat like a heart.
The red creatures parted, making way for this giant creature. This creature was none other than the giant red-scaled creature.
