Chapter 361: Ch 361: Inside The Palace
Chapter 361: Ch 361: Inside The Palace
Emrys stood before the colossal gates of the palace. The massive doors were made of an unknown dark-gray material, etched with countless ancient symbols that shimmered faintly under the dense soul energy surrounding the area.
It was as if this palace was alive, it knew someone had come to its doorstep. A soft humming sound vibrated through the air as the seals on the gates were triggered. The ancient runes flickered slowly and started moving on the gate’s surface magically.
Emrys slowly raised his hand and pressed his palm against the cold surface of the gate.
Buzz~
A wave of soul force surged forward like a tide, responding to his touch. The moving symbols on the gate glowed brightly for a moment before the rotation speed increased greatly. The gates trembled slightly, then slowly began to open with a deep rumble that echoed across the surrounding space.
As the doors parted, a soft light spilled out from within the palace, bathing Emrys in a warm, almost sacred glow.
The moment the entrance fully opened, an overwhelming force of soul force rushed outward and surged past him like a flood. The sheer purity and concentration of this energy were like nothing he had ever felt before.
Emrys took a step forward.
The moment he crossed the threshold, the door behind him closed on its own, and the scene inside the palace unfolded before him.
A vast hall appeared in front of him, so large it seemed to stretch endlessly. Pillars made of condensed soul crystals could be seen standing tall on either side of the hall. On the ground was a circular array, faintly glowing with light.
Taking a deep breath, he began to walk deeper.
However, as he walked, he suddenly felt a faint aura appearing in the air.
At first, this aura was nothing, but the deeper he walked in, the more powerful the aura became.
But Emrys didn’t stop. This was the inheritance of an ancient Spiritas, and he was ready to claim it no matter what.
Along the way, Emrys saw depictions of figures in meditation, battles of soul spirits, crumbling of worlds, war against strange creatures, a single hand shattering the heavens, scenes of cultivation that stirred a peculiar resonance deep within him, and many such murals inscribed on the walls and ceilings.
Finally, his gaze fell upon a huge circular array at the very center of the hall.
This array was completely different from those on the ground he had seen earlier. Not to mention the symbols were different, even the size and aura were distinguishable.
There was nothing here, nothing at all. But strangely, Emrys was attracted to the circular array on the ground, as if it was what he should naturally pay attention to.
Emrys got quite curious after feeling such a sensation.
Out of curiosity, he stepped closer to the array, and just as he moved within its bounds, a sharp hum cut through the silence within the hall.
Buzz!
Before Emrys could retreat, the array flared to life beneath his feet. Symbols began to spin, and brilliant soul light surged upward, wrapping around his body like flowing silk.
"What...?"
Before the question could leave his lips, the ground beneath him vanished.
The next instant, the world spun violently. A force beyond his control seized him and flung him through space. He felt weightlessness and the overwhelming sensation of being pulled forward.
When his feet touched solid ground again, the light had already faded.
Emrys found himself standing on an ancient platform built from luminous black stone veins streaked with glowing soul runes. It was high above the ground, surrounded by a wide void of silver mist and floating fragments of broken architecture.
Before him, standing at the far end of the altar, was a statue—or not.
Emrys saw a figure, who appeared to be a statue, seated cross-legged upon a throne of fractured soul crystals. This figure was tall, regal, and wrapped in flowing robes that shimmered with a translucent light. His eyes were closed, and yet Emrys could feel the immense soul pressure radiating from the being. The force made his knees slightly buckle.
Even in death, slumber, or whatever state this person was in, this entity held terrifying power.
As if responding to someone’s arrival, faint lights lit up in a line on the altar in succession. These lights actually went straight to the seated figure, as if wanting Emrys to go there.
At the same time, due to the lights lighting up the surroundings, Emrys saw some words etched in front of the throne.
"He who walks the boundary of life and death... shall inherit the path to the Eternal Soul."
Emrys’s eyes widened. His heart started racing.
Here it was, the inheritance that could enable him to walk the path of Soul Cultivation further.
But... Emrys frowned. "He who walks the boundary of life and death... What does that mean?"
As Emrys stood still, frowning at the words etched before the throne, the air around him suddenly trembled.
A strange vibration passed through the space. It was subtle at first, but then it started rising steadily.
Hummmmm...
It was a humming sound. This sound wasn’t loud, but it reverberated straight into his soul.
Emrys’s breath caught in his throat and he felt a very strange emotion.
It was also at this moment that the soul force in the air began to stir violently from every direction.
It flowed like invisible rivers of energy, all converging toward the figure seated on the throne. The gathering soul force twisted and spun in intricate spirals before diving straight into the figure’s body.
The translucent robes that covered the entity fluttered lightly, though there was no wind. And the aura in the air intensified greatly.
Crack~
Ka-cha!
Immediately, cracks formed across the luminous platform beneath Emrys’s feet. It was not from destruction, but from the overwhelming aura condensing in the air.
Silver mist started swirling in the distance, and it thickened very soon before transforming into a massive vortex encircling the altar.
