Chapter 291: Ch 291: Person In Black
Creak~
The heavy door slowly opened as Emrys pushed it. A deep, eerie sound echoed on the silent island.
As the door opened, a cold wind rushed out from inside, carrying a strange, musty smell. Emrys frowned and instinctively tried to stop breathing while placing his hand on his nose. The smell made him feel as though this palace had been sealed for countless years. And it was true.
He tried to look inside but failed to see anything. Inside, everything was dark. But Emrys was not worried. His eyes flashed with golden light. The moment they shone, the darkness no longer hid anything from him. He could see everything clearly.
The walls of the palace were covered in strange, twisting symbols. These symbols were not runes. They appeared more like some kind of hidden story. These symbols appeared to be a language, an unknown language. And the symbols were actually strange words. Some of those words seemed to move, shifting like living things. They gave off a faint, ghostly glow, making the darkness look even more terrifying.
As he stepped inside, Emrys felt that the air was too cold. It was not normal cold, but the kind that seeped into bones, enough to make even breathing feel heavy.
Emrys still didn’t stop. Since he was already here, he planned to take a look at what was kept inside. So, without hesitation, he took a step forward.
Drip... Drip...
As he was walking, he suddenly heard a strange sound. It sounded like water dripping, but Emrys could not see any water.
He looked up. The ceiling was too high, disappearing into the darkness above. But something was wrong. He could feel something watching him, and this feeling of being watched was not comfortable. He tried to find the one watching him, but unfortunately, even with those pair of golden eyes, he was unable to find the person in question. He can only feel their presence.
It has to be known that his current strength was not low. Nothing ordinary can make him feel cold and suspicious, but this place did exactly that. For a moment, he even started doubting the motive of that unknown unfathomable expert from ten thousand years ago.
Emrys walked further inside and suddenly felt that the ground beneath him seemed to have changed. Cracks appeared all of a sudden out of nowhere and the floor crumbled.
"Damn!"
Emrys cursed. He started falling along with a broken floor.
Down, there seemed to be an endless darkness with no end. He kept falling without being able to control his body.
Actually, the moment he started falling, Emrys felt some kind of force wrapping around his body, making it impossible for him to utilize his strength or ability. He cannot even use the abilities obtained from his previous soul marks.
This was completely unexpected.
As he kept falling, something happened again.
The darkness around him started to fluctuate. Emrys then clearly saw shadows appearing. These shadows stretched and twisted, forming vague shapes. Some looked like hands while others looked like distorted faces with hollow eyes. All of them immediately reached out toward him, sending palpitations to Emrys’s heart.
Truth be told, despite his high strength, he was unable to react or exert strength to deal with the current situation, which terrified him a little.
But the most terrifying thing was the sensation of an unknown presence watching him from the shadows.
Emrys watched as the shadows were inches away from him.
"Disintegrate!"
Emrys muttered silently and the shadows suddenly shattered into countless fragments before disappearing. Even the darkness around Emrys dissipated in an instant.
Although he was unable to use his strength or abilities including Origin Skills obtained from previous Soul Marks, his racial talents were not suppressed. He was still able to display the might of Synthesis and Disintegration.
In the perilous situation earlier, he had no choice but to use Disintegration to target everything surrounding him, including darkness.
Now that the darkness disappeared, Emrys suddenly found himself standing in the middle of a grand hall. He was not falling. The previous sensation of falling endlessly was merely an illusion. His mind was tricked.
But this time, the illusion was not created by ancient runes but by a powerful person.
And that person was sitting on a giant throne.
This grand hall was more like a giant open space. Tall pillars stood on both sides of the hall, reaching up high to the ceiling. The pillars on the right side had carvings of dragons while the pillars on the left side had carvings of phoenixes. Emrys still felt that these carved bodies of dragons and phoenixes were alive. They gave him the sensation of hiding a strong vitality inside them.
At the very end of the hall was a giant throne made of black stone, and a figure clad in black was sitting on it comfortably, with one leg on top of the other. The Black Stone Throne glowed faintly with reddish-dark light.
The figure clad in black was looking at Emrys. His face could not be seen, but Emrys could tell that this person was the one observing him from the very start. The instant he stepped inside the palace, he felt a presence observing him, and this person was the owner of that presence.
Emrys could also tell that this person was far more powerful than him. His current strength may be terrifying, but in front of this person, he was nothing more than a slightly bigger ant. The person in black can still crush him easily.
Moreover, there was no way out. He could not leave this place just because he wished to.
Since that was the case, Emrys quickly calmed down and asked, "Who are you?"
The person in black didn’t speak for some time.
Emrys sighed and was about to speak again when a voice resounded in the grand hall, "I created the Dragon Palace, Phoenix Palace, and Dark Palace ten million years ago. Among these three palaces, I created the Dark Palace on a whim. Before leaving this universe, I left behind three incarnations, one inside each palace. I have been waiting for two people, not the third one, for I believed the third one would never be able to come here. Never have I expected for the ’Exception’ to defy my rules, my creation, and even my world, easily reaching me. Today, I truly learned what it means to be an Exception."
