Chapter 255: Ch 255: The Ascension Gate
Emrys took a deep breath and dived into the small pool.
Immediately, clear and cold water washed all over him, submerging him completely.
At first, the water was cool and clear, and he could see the light from above. But as he swam deeper, the light started growing dimmer. Emrys found that the pool, which looked small on the surface, seemed to have no bottom.
It was strange; the deeper he went, the more endless it felt.
He kept swimming down, feeling the cold water pressing against his skin. It wasn’t just cold; it was freezing. Emrys felt if his body was weaker, he would have already started to shiver.
Ignoring the cold water, he continued to keep going deeper. He knew he had to reach wherever the bottom was hidden.
The silence around him was heavy. At first, there was still the sound of his movement, but the deeper he went, the thinner the sound became. And then, there came a time when there were no sounds except for his heartbeat and the slow movement of water.
As he dived, Emrys glanced down and saw nothing but darkness. The pool was so deep that even his eyes couldn’t find the end. It felt like diving into the sky at night, surrounded by an endless sea of black. He tried to move faster, but for some reason, he could not feel his speed. He could not tell whether he was going faster or slower.
"Is there even an end to this?"
Emrys frowned but could do nothing but dive deeper and deeper.
Surprisingly, the small pool seemed to have truly turned into an endless sea. He couldn’t even feel the boundary of the pool which he was able to sense for a few minutes after diving.
Who knows for how long he continued to swim deeper and deeper when suddenly, small glowing lights appeared around him, floating in the water like tiny stars, attracting his attention.
"What are these now?"
In this dark world of water, these tiny glowing lights shimmered gently, giving off a pale blue glow.
Emrys slowly reached out to touch one, but before he could touch it, it drifted away swiftly. It felt as if the lights were alive, watching him but keeping their distance.
The cold grew stronger. If it was someone else, they could have felt water biting their skin like tiny needles.
Fortunately, Emrys was far stronger than anyone could imagine. He only felt a tingling sensation and that’s all.
"Is there even a bottom?"
Doubt crept into his mind, but he shook it away. He knew he couldn’t stop now that he had already swam to an unknown depth.
Emrys kept diving deeper into the pool, and as he did, more small glowing balls of light appeared around him. They floated gently in the water.
Then, he noticed something below him. It was faint at first, but as he swam closer, it became clearer.
"Is this the bottom?"
The bottom of the pool, which he thought had no end, came into view. To Emrys’s surprise, it was covered with strange, detailed patterns that looked like they were carved into the floor. The patterns were dull and lifeless, with no glow or movement. They looked old, very long.
"These seem like some kind of ancient runes."
Emrys muttered, but his voice got lost in the water around him. He reached the bottom and carefully landed with both feet.
The floor felt cold and smooth under him. He looked closely and saw that the bottom was made of a shiny metal. It didn’t look like any metal he had seen before, but due to the inheritance of Divine Weapon Craftsman, he knew what this metal was. It was Aurorium, a type of Divine Metal that could be used to create even weapons above Soulbound Level. Such metals were precious but a huge chunk of it was used to create the floor at the bottom of the small pool that now seems to have turned into a sea.
Emrys noticed that the runes carved on the metal were very detailed and complicated. There were circles, lines, and shapes all connected in strange ways.
Emrys frowned as he looked at them, trying to understand what they meant. They felt powerful, even though he couldn’t understand them.
"Where is the ascension gate?"
Emrys wondered and looked around. However, as far as his eyes could see, he couldn’t see anything aside from the Divine Metal carved with countless intricated runes.
"Don’t tell me, this Divine Metal itself is the ascension gate!"
Emrys suddenly thought of something and glanced at the divine metal below his feet with more curiosity.
Emrys was not a fool.
Since he couldn’t see anything aside from the divine metal used to create the fake seabed, which was carved with countless ancient runes, it seemed likely that this fake seabed was the Ascension Gate.
However, Emrys wasn’t entirely sure.
And if this truly was the Ascension Gate, the question remained: how would he activate it?
"I should look around first!"
Although Emrys could already guess, he still chose to first look everywhere.
He immediately activated his Three-Dimensional World’s perspective, and the world around him transformed.
"Huh?"
To Emrys’s shock, there was no sea in sight!
Yes, the sea had vanished.
He was indeed standing on top of the Divine Metal, but the endless sea was gone. Instead, boundaries appeared all around him in his view. Even more surprising was that the massive walls of the small pool were covered in the same intricate ancient runes carved on the surface of the Divine Metal.
Talking about the small Pool, it was small only in terms of width. As for its length, it was unknown. His Three Dimensional World was unable to completely cover the small pool in its grasp.
"Seems like those ancient runes created an illusion that successfully deceived my eyes and mind."
Emrys muttered. At the same time, he became more and more interested in this Ascension Gate.
Yes, by now, he was sure that not just the Divine Metal that made the pool’s floor, but the entire pool was the ascension gate.
And he wanted to study this ascension gate as closely as he could.
