Chapter 158: Ch 158: Soul Cultivation & Soul Beasts

"Rufi, why are you here?"

"Hehe, Chief Bohu told me to be his guide, so I accompanied him here." Rufi laughed and pointed at Emrys. Then she said, "But, you don’t have to worry. He’s very strong. Look, I’m totally fine."

"Chief Bohu sent you here?" The middle-aged man’s expression changed. Then he looked at Emrys and asked, "You are?"

Emrys smiled and told the middle-aged his name. After that, he stated his purpose and how Rufi ended up becoming his guide.

The middle-aged man’s name was Renzo Celesto.

A few minutes later, three people could be seen going down the mountain. Obviously, Renzo started to accompany Emrys and Rufi. After bringing Emrys to the border, he would return to the tribe with his daughter.

.....

The next day, three people stood in front of a layer of dark mist. From the outside, it appeared to be ordinary smoke, without any aura or qualities.

However, Emrys knew it was not that simple. He could not see anything inside the mist nor could he feel anything even with his powerful Spiritual Sense.

Rufi’s father, Renzo looked at the layer of black mist and said with deep emotions, "The border starts from here. It is stretched for hundreds of miles. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it’ll become. So, be careful!"

Emrys nodded while carefully observing the mist. This layer of black mist was different from his dark mist. It did not have the attributes of darkness, curse, and abyss.

"If you know, can you tell me about the most dangerous thing about the border?" Emrys thought of something and asked.

"The most dangerous thing?" Renzo frowned, but then he nodded and said, "The previous group of people were too full of themselves. They did not ask anything about the dangers. You are different. You are aware of your own limit!"

Stopping for a moment, Renzo continued, "If I were to say, I would say that the most dangerous things about the borders are Abyssals and Soul Beasts!"

"Abyssals?" Emrys was surprised, but then his surprise turned to shock. He abruptly shifted his gaze from the layer of black mist to Renzo and exclaimed, "Did you just say Soul Beasts?"

Renzo frowned. He did not expect the calm and collected Emrys to lose his cool so suddenly. For a moment, he even thought that something bad happened. Fortunately, it was the wrong bell.

He nodded his head and explained, "Yes. Abyssals and Soul Beasts are special. You won’t find them anywhere in the leveled areas, not even in Level Zero areas which is unpredictable. They only appear in the borders between two areas. It is as if only the border’s environment is where they can survive."

"Abyssals are creatures that are deeply eerie, evil, and deadly. They thrive in darkness and their presence is enough to send chills down the spine of anyone who sees or senses them. Their appearance is often distorted and unnerving, with eyes that seem to pierce into the soul. When you see them, you’ll recognize them instantly. Their worst trait is their insatiable hunger for life force. Abyssals drain the energy and vitality from their victims, leaving them as empty husks. This horrifying ability not only causes immense pain but also instills a deep sense of fear and helplessness in those who encounter them."

Renzo paused to catch his breath before continuing, "Soul Beasts are much rarer. You might not find them at the border. Encountering one requires either incredible luck or extreme misfortune. They differ greatly from Star Beasts and Abyssals. First of all, killing them is very difficult. It’s said that even in ancient times when Cosmic Cultivation was flourishing, Soul Beasts and Soul Cultivators were the only forces that could truly threaten us Cosmic Cultivators."

He took another breath and went on, "When we Cosmic Cultivators were targeted by an unknown presence, one that our Saints glimpsed on the other side of Eternity’s vast expanse, the Soul Cultivators were also targeted. Due to their extraordinary talents and exceptionally powerful souls, legend has it that Soul Cultivators managed to escape and stay hidden from those terrifying entities. To this day, they remain hidden and have yet to be found. Of course, these are just legends."

"I don’t know much about Soul Cultivators and Soul Beasts. The only thing I can tell you about a Soul Beast’s special train is that you can obtain an orb-like object from a Soul Beast’s dead body. That orb-like object can strengthen your soul a little bit."

The middle-aged man, Renzo Celesto, did not notice Emrys’s expression. The more he spoke, the deeper Emrys breathed.

It could not be helped. He never expected to hear about Soul Cultivators and Soul Beasts in this hellish world. Most importantly, Soul Cultivators were legends here.

What attracted Emrys’s attention the most was the fact that Soul Cultivators were the only force that was able to threaten Cosmic Cultivators’ lives in the most ancient era when Cosmic Cultivation used to flourish.

For a moment, Emrys felt as if he had just touched a door full of secrets.

Doesn’t Renzo’s words prove that when Soul Cultivation was also one of the two most ancient Cultivation Systems?

"All right, I have already told you everything I knew. You can go inside now." Renzo spoke.

Emrys did not ask anything. He was too excited to continue talking with Renzo. Right now, he was really in urgent need of Soul Orbs. If he could encounter a Soul Beast, he could obtain Soul Orb as well.

He silently nodded and crossed the layer of black mist, entering the border.

What appeared in front of him was a huge forest. This forest was not a lively green forest, but a dull forest, as if there was no vitality left in this forest.

Emrys started walking. Along the way, he encountered a few Sixth and Seventh Step Beasts. They were no match to Emrys and became part of Emrys’s strength in the end.

He was eagerly waiting to meet Soul Beasts, but he did not see them even after a few hours of rush journey. Instead, he saw a person in a black clock walking in a certain direction.

"Who is he?"

Emrys frowned and muttered. Then he thought for a few seconds and decided to follow the man.
