Chapter 139: Ch 139: Search For The Sword Artifact
After a few moments that felt like an eternity, the light within the dream-like misty space began to fade slowly. As it dimmed, Emrys’s sea of consciousness returned to its normal state of serenity. The dream-like space also disappeared slowly as if it was never there.
Emrys was left in stunned silence. He could hardly believe that everything that had just transpired was true. The invasion of the black figure was so sudden, so overpowering, and yet, something within him had effortlessly defended against it.
What exactly was that light? How had it manifested?
Emrys knew that the dream-like misty space was the creation of Soulforge Prism Orb. He also sensed that the light erupted from his own soul. But he was completely unaware as to what that light actually was.
He understood that his soul still hides many secrets. He just has to unearth these secrets slowly.
Despite the confusion and lingering questions, one thing was clear: he was safe. The black figure’s attempt to possess him had failed completely. He can now continue exploring the building.
Emrys took a deep breath, feeling a profound sense of relief wash over him.
Opening his eyes, Emrys slowly stood up. He was still inside the golden hall. The world around him remained unchanged.
Xu Ling was standing nearby, watching him with a mixture of concern and curiosity. She had witnessed the black figure transforming into light and then entering his body. She was clear from the very start that the black figure wanted to possess Emrys’s body. Though she could not see into his sea of consciousness, she was sure a tough battle must be being fought there.
It is just that the victor was unknown. She wished Emrys would win the battle, but she was not confident. She lacked confidence in Emrys. In her eyes, although Emrys is extremely powerful, he is still far from being compared with the strong soul of that ancient expert.
When she saw Emrys opening his eyes and standing up, she retreated a few steps. After all, she was not sure whether it was Emrys or the black figure.
"Emrys, are you alright?" Xu Ling asked, her voice steady but filled with worry. She called him Emrys, waiting for his reply that would confirm whether it really was Emrys or not.
Emrys was overwhelmed by everything that happened to him in such a short period. He had no time to think about useless stuff as to what Xu Ling was thinking. He simply nodded his head slowly, and replied, "Yes, I think so!"
His voice was a bit shaky from the ordeal. His next reply confirmed Xu Ling’s identity, "That thing... It is gone."
He is gone?
Xu Ling was shocked. Then she let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
"What happened? One moment you were struggling, and now you are saying that that thing is gone."
Emrys shook his head, still trying to process everything. He did not reply to Xu Ling anything and only looked at the throne while lost in deep thought.
"I’m not entirely sure, but that light had a kind of sacred power, the same kind that stitched the foreign soul with my soul. Even then and now as well, it felt like... like the holy light was protecting me."
On the other hand, not getting a reply from Emrys caused Xu Ling to feel slightly irritated, but she no longer questioned Emrys. At least for now, she did not want to get into Emrys’s bad side.
The two stood in silence for a moment, both reflecting on the extraordinary event that had just transpired. Emrys knew that he had much to learn about the mysterious power within his soul, but for now, he was simply grateful to be alive and in control of his own body.
"Let’s check out this place and then move forward," Emrys finally said while taking a deep breath. At the same time, he intently looked at Xu Ling and said in a deep voice, "We also need to find out more about this place and what other dangers might be waiting for us. I feel like as long as I am with you, troubles will never end coming my way."
"Cough!" "Cough!"
Xu Ling was embarrassed. She coughed a few times and then nodded. Obviously, she agreed with Emrys.
Because the black figure did not tell them the location of the sword, they had no choice but to look for the sword carefully. Especially Xu Ling, she did not want to miss the sword at any cost.
The two of them started to search the golden hall from two different sides.
Although Emrys does not use a sword, he still wants to see what an ancient artifact looks like. He wanted to feel its power as well. And if it suits him, he did not mind taking away the sword.
So what if Xu Ling wants the sword?
If he likes it, he will take it. It is as simple as that.
But the same is true otherways around as well. If he does not like the sword, no matter how utterly powerful that sword might be, he would not mind giving it away for Xu Ling to take.
According to the black figure, the previous illusion was created by his old friend. That old friend was also the owner of that sword artifact. It is just that his time came earlier and he died completely.
Since the illusion was created by the old man right outside the building, the sword artifact is likely to be hidden somewhere here. Moreover, what the black figure told them is not necessarily true.
The two of them searched the entire hall but did not find anything. They wasted more than two hours just to look for the sword artifact, however, they failed.
But it doesn’t mean they did not gain anything else.
Emrys’s attention was attracted to a painting hanging on a nearby wall.
On the other hand, Xu Ling’s attention was on the floor and the throne carved with inscriptions. Her eyes were shining brilliantly. Anyone could tell her thirst to understand these inscriptions.
Now that she was sure that the sword artifact was not located inside the hall, she began to observe the inscriptions closely.
