Chapter 127: Ch 127: Running
Chapter 127: Ch 127: Running
Two days later, Emrys could be seen walking cautiously, always alert and ready to face any incoming dangers.
After leaving the cave two days ago, Emrys had first made his way to the place where the Mysterious Sky Tree had appeared. Luckily, he had a map in hand; otherwise, it would have taken him who knows how many days to find the place.
Upon arriving close to the Mysterious Sky Tree, Emrys followed the map and left the Mysterious Sky Valley, eventually stepping into a barren land.
Although this place was completely barren and would have resembled a desert if not for the black soil, dense fog still filled the air. This fog was actually Cosmic Energy, the same as inside Emrys’s Cosmic Essence Core.
Feeling the incoming cosmic energy, Emrys couldn’t help but squint his eyes. The density of the Cosmic Energy here was higher than in other places he had been to.
The surrounding temperature was slightly high on this barren land.
Emrys raised his head and looked across the black land. For what seemed to be the extreme end, he could vaguely see a tall mountain that was lush and verdant, unlike the rest of the land. It was giving off a luster and gave Emrys a sense of reverie.
He had to cross the land in front of him to reach the mountain.
Emrys looked around, but it seemed that there was no other path, and could only cross over from the desert-like land.
As he started walking, Emrys’s state of mind also started to become more and more nervous for some reason. It was as if there existed some kind of danger in this black land, and his gut feelings were giving him a warning beforehand.
Dark mist rose from his body and covered the surface of his body with a dark barrier, and his entire body was protected so tightly that even the wind couldn’t pass through.
However, even when he walked for nine hours straight, nothing unexpected happened. Only then did his expression relax.
Generally speaking, he had already entered deep into the black desert. If there really was something dangerous, it would have appeared a long time ago.
Just when he relaxed slightly, Emrys’s heart suddenly throbbed. The dark mist around him started to fluctuate a little.
"What is this feeling?"
Unlike the sense of danger, he felt like something good was waiting for him not far away from here. He followed his feelings and walked forward for a distance. As he scanned his surroundings, he found a spot of green about a hundred feet in front of him.
In the barren land, there was a particularly eye-catching green Spiritual Plant. It was a Spirit Grass. This Spirit Grass was completely dark green, like a top-grade emerald, and its exposed surface was about a foot wide. Emrys could feel its faint cool aura from afar.
"Could it be that this is a medicinal herb that grows in this world? If that is so, it must be filled with Cosmic Energy as well. I just don’t know what kind of effect it can produce upon consumption!"
Emrys slowly walked towards the green spirit grass in order to pick it up.
However, just as he was about to get close to the range of the Spirit Grass, there was a sudden movement in the land below his feet.
A black dirt suddenly rose up a few meters high in the air, following that, many transparent winged insects buzzed out. With a flap of their wings, they floated in mid-air and shot towards Emrys’s protective mist barrier.
Each of these flying insects was as thick as a finger and jet-black in color. When they flapped their wings, a buzzing sound could be heard, which was very strange.
At this moment, Emrys could already clearly see the true appearance of these insects. With just a cursory glance, Emrys could tell that there were thousands of them.
His mind raced as he looked at these flying insects, wanting to find what kind of weak points they had. But before he could even think for a few moments, a black torrent of insects had already crashed into his protective mist barrier. One after another, crackling sounds could be heard and all the insects were bounced off.
Seeing this scene, Emrys relaxed in his heart and his face revealed an eased expression.
But moments later, his smile froze.
This was because the black flying insects that were sent flying did not seem to be injured at all and kept coming at him again and again which surprised Emrys.
Without any hesitation, he struck out with his palm. The black mist surged from his body, and a dark light shot out from his hand.
As the dark light swept over, the flying insects looked as if they had been smashed by a fierce wave of wind, and they started falling to the ground. However, before Emrys could do anything, they quickly spread their wings and flew back up again, and were actually completely unharmed.
This made Emrys’s expression become ugly. It seemed like these flying insects were innately resistant to black mist and weren’t afraid of his dark-attributed energy at all.
Now that he thinks about the dark-attributed energy, Emrys realizes that he can control this energy and use it as he wishes without any problem, unlike the space-attributed energy.
Realizing this, he tried to manipulate cursed energy but failed. The same happened with Abyssal Energy as well.
There was no answer to why it was like this, but at least, with the attribute of darkness at hand, he had a few more cards in his arsenal. As for the Cursed Energy and Abyssal Energy, he can gain control of them and manipulate them at will by tempering his body with this energy just like space-attributed energy.
It is just that he doesn’t know if a problem will arise after tempering his body with three different attributed energies or not.
The thought only flashed in Emrys’s mind for a moment before disappearing. He focused on the flying insects once more.
At this time, the amount of black insects attacking him increased and the protective mist barrier around his body gradually started to crumble. While the mist barrier was still protecting him, Emrys did not hesitate and immediately rushed towards the location of the green spirit grass.
After a few seconds, he arrived at the edge of the green spirit grass. With a wave of his hand, he caught the spirit grass and then quickly started running towards the other side of the barren land.
Seeing how these insects were living underground in this barren land, Emrys believed he would have a chance to get rid of these flying insects once he was out of there.
The sky above the desert was already filled with a buzzing sound. If one were to look down from mid-air at this moment, one would notice a black dot rapidly moving forward in the barren land, and behind the black dot was a large amount of black fog.
However, the difference in speed was not the same, causing the black fog to be unable to catch up to the black dot.
Not only did Emrys run, but he also utilized Node Shift two times continuously. It is only after another few hours that Emrys is finally able to escape to the edge of the barren land.
Looking ahead, the emerald-like mountain was not far from here.
Just as Emrys had expected, the group of black flying insects could not go too far away from the barren land for some reason. Although there were still some that continued to chase, they were no longer a threat to Emrys.
Emrys was relieved that his theory was right. These insects did not follow him after he stepped out of the barren land. As for the last few flying insects, they also gave up on their pursuit and turned back with a flap of their wings.
Emrys finally had time to breathe.
"That was terrifying!" Emrys heaved a sigh of relief and sat down on the ground.
Why did he run instead of fighting? Was he truly not a match to those insects?
Actually, Emrys could have definitely fought those insects if not for his senses warning him continuously, telling him that if he stayed there for long, he might have to face a great catastrophe. His senses were constantly warning him to leave the barren land.
In the end, although he doesn’t know what kind of extreme danger is hidden in the barren land, he still listens to his senses and chooses to escape instead of engaging in battling and killing those flying insects.
Emrys looked at the mountain filled with vitality. Unlike the other places he had been before including the Mysterious Sky Valley, this place truly appeared to be filled with immense vitality. The forest around the mountain was densely populated with huge green trees, but something appeared to be off about this forest as well.
According to the map, he has to pass this forest first before continuing his journey to go to the place pointed out by Mu Bailing.
That is why, he entered the forest without thinking much. Of course, he became cautious once again, ready to face any danger that might come his way.
