Chapter 128: Ch 128: Ape Beasts (1)
Emrys entered the forest that was densely packed with all sorts of plants. From afar, the faint sounds of the Beast’s growls could be heard, causing this dense forest to appear somewhat terrifying.
From afar, this forest appeared to be filled with vitality and greenery. It was only after entering the forest that Emrys realized how dark it truly was.
Emrys spent a few hours at the outer perimeter of the forest to make a small bag by using some natural objects such as huge leaves and roots. Then he stored the Spirit Herb inside this bag.
After that, Emrys quickly climbed up a tree and looked at the forest from the top. After roughly determining a direction he had to go, he jumped down and continued his journey once again.
Not long after he walked deeper inside the forest, a gust of light wind blew past him. At the same time, Emrys heard some rustling sounds come from the front. He stopped in his tracks and saw a beast-like creature a few hundred feet away from him.
This beast had a body similar to an ape, just a bit bigger and wider. It had a pair of iron-green arms and both arms were extremely long. Even when the beast stands up, its arms would be able to touch the ground.
Seeing Emrys, the beast’s cold eyes unexpectedly revealed a trace of a human-like smile.
At first glance, this beast appeared to be very strong, however, Emrys did not put it in his eyes. It is because this beast only had four star patterns in its eyes.
Ka-cha!
On the ground, the sound of branches breaking could be heard. The Ape Beast leaped up and held onto the tall tree trunk with both of its arms. Then it jumped from one branch to another and moved towards Emrys. Its movements were extremely strange, more like a monkey than an ape.
When it was only a few tens of feet away, the Ape Beast pounced down from the tree, waving both of its arms down towards Emrys’s head from above.
Emrys didn’t care about it at all. Seeing the Ape Beast coming down from above, dark mist circulated around his fist as he directly threw out a punch, "Dark Elephant Punch!".
Dark Elephant Punch was one of the lower-level skills that appeared inside Emrys’s mind. Although it was one of the lower-level skills, its rank still far surpassed something that Emrys could showcase with his current strength. He can only display power at less than 1% of its full potential.
According to the memories inside his head, only when his punch causes a dark elephant to manifest can he be said to have reached initial success in this skill.
"Bang!"
Both of them collided against each other, but Emrys remained standing while the Ape Beast was knocked back by the huge force of the collision.
The Ape Beast obviously had Intelligence. After seeing Emrys’s tyrannical power, its eyes revealed a look of fear. Scratching its ears and cheeks, it suddenly leaped onto a tall tree’s branch, and after a few ups and downs, its figure disappeared.
"Oh, that Ape Beast was actually intelligent."
Emrys muttered with surprise. Although he had heard about Soul Beasts possessing intelligence, he had never seen one with his own eyes. Now that one such beast ran away, Emrys chose not to chase after the beast.
But, just as he was about to climb up the mountain, his ears twitched, and he heard the sounds of fighting coming from ahead. This sound appeared to be not far from him.
With some hesitation, he still rushed in the direction of the sound. In a short period of a few minutes, he appeared on a high ground.
Emrys frowned unconsciously because a group of Ape Beasts appeared within his line of sight. There were around ten of them. They were frantically attacking a green sphere of light. The green sphere of light was shaky, flickering constantly. Emrys could make out a human figure within it from the flickering light. This human figure was struggling to hold on to the green sphere of light that acted like a barrier, a shield to protect him, not letting it shatter at all cost.
If it was before, Emrys would have turned around and got away without hesitation. In such a situation, helping some stranger means jumping into a deep pit. It is much better to mind his own business, turn around, and walk away.
However, he then recalled Mu Bailing’s advice. She told him that he might meet people along the way during his journey. If possible, it is better to make a team and then travel. After all, if a danger falls that cannot be dealt with by a single person, there is a chance to deal with such dangers with a team.
Recalling Mu Bailing’s advice, Emrys stopped and did not walk away. However, he did not go forward to help that person immediately as well. He chose to wait and first observe the situation.
"Roar!"
At this moment, the leader of the Ape Beasts suddenly let out a high-pitched roar, pulled up a small tree from the ground with its pair of strong hands, and used the tree as a huge rod that was dozens of feet long, hacking at the human figure inside the green sphere light, producing a strong gust of wind and an arc in the air.
"Bang!"
A loud explosion reverberated in every direction, and then, Emrys saw the green sphere of light instantly shattering like pieces of glass. From inside, a miserable figure tumbled out. It was a beautiful girl stained in blood.
Following that, a few Ape Beasts rushed up at the same time.
Just when Emrys thought it was time to help, a small blue-colored ball suddenly flew out from that girl’s hand. Emrys saw how that girl hurriedly jumped in the opposite direction while throwing the blue ball at the Ape Beasts.
"BOOM!"
The moment the blue ball was shot out, there was a loud "boom" and a huge mushroom cloud rose towards the sky. Several of the Ape Beasts that pounced forward did not have any defense against this item and immediately suffered heavy casualties from the explosion.
