Chapter 110: Ch 110: Emrys’s Decision (1)

Chapter 110: Ch 110: Emrys’s Decision (1)

"Who are you?" Emrys asked curiously. For some reason, he didn’t feel scared so he didn’t hesitate to ask. The golden figure seemed to radiate a sense of safety and calm, making Emrys feel at ease despite the surreal situation.

The golden figure remained silent for a moment while playing with the multicolored orb. Then, his voice echoed again, this time with a tone that resonated deeply within Emrys’s soul.

"My name is Ling Xiaolong."

The voice stopped for a few seconds before echoing again. "As for you, Emrys Frazier, I have chosen you."

Emrys felt a shiver run down his spine. Chosen? Chosen for what? He had so many questions, but the overwhelming sense of calmness and trust in the golden figure’s presence made him feel that, somehow, everything was alright. There is no need to hurry.

The golden figure continued, "Do you know why you failed to awaken your Soul Mark continuously despite having incredible potential?"

Do I have incredible potential?

Emrys was surprised. If it was any other time or someone else who said these words, he would have never believed them. But the words coming out from the golden figure’s mouth made him instinctively trust these words from the bottom of his heart.

"Why?"

If he does have incredible potential, why does he always fail to awaken the Soul Mark?

Emrys asked, "It seems you know the answer, sir. Can you please tell me why I always fail to awaken the Soul Mark, and if possible, provide a solution?"

The golden figure spoke, "I do know the reason and the solution. However, I am not planning to help you. But..."

When the golden figure mentioned that he knew both the reason and the solution, Emrys felt a surge of excitement. However, his hope dwindled when the figure declared he had no intention of helping him. Yet, when the golden figure abruptly paused after uttering the word ’but’, Emrys grew anxious.

"But? But what, sir?" Emrys anxiously asked.

The golden figure replied, "I will not help you, but you can help yourself."

"I can help myself?"

"How?" Emrys was confused.

The golden figure’s voice echoed once again. This time, he answered Emrys’s initial question.

"You are cursed by the Curse of Echoing Silence. It is an ancient curse that has completely sealed the potential as well as the essence of your soul. As long as your soul is cursed with the Curse of Echoing Silence, you can forget about awakening your Soul Mark."

Emrys was utterly confused this time. He tried to recall when and how he was cursed, but he couldn’t think of anything. He couldn’t help but mutter with a puzzled expression, "I am cursed? How? When?"

Emrys was confused and anxious, but he soon calmed down. The golden radiance touching his figure seemed to have helped him reach a state of tranquility.

Raising his head, Emrys asked, "Sir, you said I can help myself. In other words, I can break the curse and awaken my Soul Mark. Please, I request, tell me how?"

The golden figure responded to Emrys’s question, "Typically speaking, there is no way to break this curse. Not even the creator of this curse knows its solution. However, there are always exceptions!"

Emrys seemed to understand something. He looked at the golden figure with a heavy heart. "And you are that exception, right, sir? However, you are not going to help me!"

"You are sharp, little guy!"

For the first time, Emrys felt a hint of a smile in the voice of the golden figure. However, the following words disappointed him. But there was still hope in his heart. Since this matter was brought to light, it was obvious the golden figure was going to tell him the solution as well.

As expected, the golden figure soon spoke, "As I told you, you can help yourself. However, there are no free lunches. If you want something valuable, you have to be prepared to give up something of value as well."

Emrys frowned. He seemed to understand that this golden figure, who calls himself Ling Xiaolong, had a motive. He approached him with some kind of intention.

"What do you want from me, sir?" Emrys asked while taking a deep breath.

The golden figure spoke with a smiling voice, "I do not want anything from you. But if you want to break the curse, you have to agree to what I am going to tell you, whether you like it or not!"

Emrys’s mouth twitched. On the one hand, Ling Xiaolong was telling him that he didn’t want anything from him, and on the other hand, he was saying that he had to agree to what he was going to tell him, whether he liked it or not.

Isn’t this the same?

Isn’t this forcing him indirectly?

After all, according to Ling Xiaolong, he can help him break the Curse of Echoing Silence. He was, however, not willing to do so. Instead, he wants Emrys to do it himself. And if Emrys wants to break the curse, he has to agree to something whether he likes it or not.

Despite feeling that the golden figure is selfish, the complete trust for Ling Xiaolong in Emrys’s heart did not waver in the slightest.

"Please tell me everything directly, sir!" Exhaling deeply, Emrys said. As for whether he will agree or not, he will decide after listening to what this golden figure is going to tell him.

The golden figure spoke, "If you want to break the Curse of Echoing Silence, you have to have a soul unaffected by this curse. However, if you look closely, your entire soul is cursed."

As he spoke, the golden figure waved his hand. A soft breeze brushed past Emrys. Emrys felt something and looked at himself, only to be frightened. He saw himself in a translucent form, completely wrapped in ropes of cursed energy.

"This... What is this?"

Although he already understood what this translucent form was and what the ropes of cursed energy were, he still couldn’t help but exclaim in fright.

"As you can already tell, you are present here, in this void of darkness, with your soul, not your physical body. As for this void of darkness, it is actually the place where your soul resides within your body," the golden figure spoke indifferently, as if this situation was very ordinary in his eyes.

[A/N]:So... Dear readers, I’m sure you’ve encountered many novels where the protagonist either takes over a body and the previous soul disappears, or their soul fuses with the predecessor’s, gaining all their knowledge and abilities. I wanted to take a different approach.

Is it really necessary to kill someone off just to tell a story where the protagonist rises from the rubble? I wanted to make sure there must be a compelling reason why the protagonist ends up in someone else’s body. I wanted to make sure there is a story behind what happened to the predecessor’s soul—how they felt before someone else took over, or how they felt when another soul fused with theirs.

I want to delve into the emotions and experiences of both the protagonist and the predecessor. What were their thoughts as their lives intersected in such a profound way? How did each of them grapple with the unexpected merging of their souls or the takeover of their body? These are questions that fascinate me, and I believe exploring these dynamics can add depth and complexity to the story.

Rather than a straightforward narrative where one soul dominates and the other fades away, let’s aim to explore the complexities of identity, consciousness, and moral dilemmas that arise when lives intertwine in such a dramatic fashion. It’s about more than just a new beginning for the protagonist—it’s about understanding the impact on all parties involved and exploring the human aspects of such a supernatural event.

In this story, I hope to challenge conventions and offer readers a fresh perspective on the genre, one that delves into the psychological and emotional aspects of soul transference and body possession.
