Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer

Chapter 453 - 234: Ruins Excavation_2

Chapter 453 - 234: Ruins Excavation_2

The angry voice startled Pororo.

He blankly turned his head toward Jason.

Alka and the others were similarly bewildered.

Jason stared at their bewildered expressions, as if they weren’t the culprits.

"Fine, so everyone’s feigning ignorance, right? Then don’t blame me for hurting innocents!"

With that, Jason fiercely dug his shovel into the ground, sending a large clump of soil flying.

"What are you doing!"

"What does this have to do with me?"

"Is this war?"

Those hit by the soil immediately retaliated.

The scene quickly descended into chaos.

The commotion drew the attention of Chadite, who was squatting on the ground, engrossed in her investigation.

She stood up and turned to see what was happening.

"Watch out, Chadite!"

The moment she turned her head, a large clump of soil flew straight at her.

It knocked her to the ground, catching her completely off guard.

Looking at the soil covering her, Chadite’s expression suddenly became calm.

She got up and quietly brushed the soil off herself.

"Julia," she called out calmly.

Julia, who had just climbed out of her own digging pit, nodded.

She brushed the dirt from her smooth, long blue hair; she too had been hit by the flying clumps of soil.

Behind her, a halo shimmered, and several ribbons shot out.

Golden lines emerged on Chadite’s forehead, forming a circlet.

"Those two seem really angry. Shouldn’t we stop them?" Matilda cautiously asked Lucilia, nudging her with the tip of her snake-like tail.

Lucilia was now grinning broadly, her eyes practically gleaming.

Watching Alka and the others, still cluelessly flinging soil at each other, her smile widened even more.

"No worries. We’re in for a good show."

Alka, standing opposite them and able to see Chadite and the others, seemed to notice something was amiss.

He quietly tipped the soil off his shovel and carefully ducked into the pit he had dug.

Even when more clumps of soil landed on him, he acted as if he hadn’t felt a thing.

Ribbons leaped out, binding him.

Evidently, someone wasn’t about to let him off the hook.

Seeing this wasn’t working, Alka immediately shouted his defense, "It has nothing to do with me!"

But it was no use.

The ribbons snatched him into the air, along with Jason and the others—even the massive Pororo.

Sunlight suddenly condensed from the sky, forming beams that struck them.

SIZZLE!

"AH! HOT, HOT, HOT!"

"IT’S BURNING! IT’S BURNING!"

Various cries of pain erupted from them.

When they located the source of the attack, they saw a displeased-looking Chadite and a faintly smiling Julia.

Both were covered in mud, yet even that couldn’t conceal their beauty.

They were, to put it mildly, quite disheveled. The mud and sand matted in their hair, in particular, would be difficult to clean.

"Are you playing some kind of... game?" Bai Shi’s voice suddenly came from nearby.

At his voice, the ribbons binding the men immediately loosened, dropping them to the ground.

The beams of sunlight focused on them also vanished, and Chadite and Julia instantly returned to their normal states.

Fortunately, the mounds of excavated dirt on their side provided some cover, obscuring the scene from Bai Shi’s initial view.

Everyone turned their heads toward the source of the voice.

Bai Shi was leading a group of Hunters, apparently on patrol.

The ruins they were excavating were not far from the town’s outermost watchtower, only about five or six kilometers distant.

It seemed this area was part of their patrol route.

When Bai Shi walked over, he took one look at the pits dug all around and instantly understood what they were up to.

After all, having spent several days with them, he had a general idea of what Alka and his group were like.

"You’re not... trying to excavate the entire ruins to have a look, are you?"

Alka, lightly dusting the soil off himself, nodded with a smile.

"Of course. It would be a shame not to get to know such vast ruins, wouldn’t it?"

"Aren’t you a Treasure Hunting Team?"

Hearing this, Bai Shi had a sudden realization.

"Oh, I see. But don’t get your hopes up too high.

Many ruins here have special effects because the collapsed structures still retain the Spells once inscribed on them. That’s what makes them work.

So, unless you can move an entire ruin, it’s mostly useless. Most of these ruins don’t contain any valuables."

Evidently, Alka’s group’s actions weren’t anything new on this Island.

They weren’t the only outsiders who had tried such a thing upon arriving on the Island.

Even the Island’s residents had attempted it in the past.

After all, the Island was almost entirely covered in ruins; one could even say the entire Island had been formed from the remains of that ancient city-state.

Hearing this, Alka wasn’t discouraged. He smiled and said, "It’s alright. Although we’re a Treasure Hunting Team, we aren’t that fixated on treasure.

Besides, isn’t uncovering the history and stories of such a large ruin more fascinating?"

"Don’t you want to learn about the civilization that once existed on this Island? Perhaps they were even your ancestors.

We have a fair bit of experience with archaeology and excavation, you know."
