Chapter 433 - 227 - Broken Town_3
"This time, what you’ve activated is merely a harmless ruin. But if you happen to activate one that brings serious disaster, don’t blame us for not showing mercy."
"If you can even live that long, that is."
The main issue was that he had never expected outsiders to know their language. It was a problem they had never had to worry about before.
After speaking, he waited for Alka and his party to respond.
Alka thought for a moment, then said without much hesitation, "Of course. I’m quite interested in this Island. If you don’t mind, could you take us to see your town?"
"Hmm, quite bold. Do you understand the situation on this Island?" Bai Shi hadn’t expected Alka to agree so easily.
Strangers would generally refuse unless they knew something about the Island.
"This is the first time we’ve heard of this Island, but we have some confidence in our abilities, and you all seem friendly enough." Alka said this casually, though he was really just making an excuse.
He couldn’t very well tell them he’d spent a good part of last night wandering through their dreams and therefore had some understanding of this Island.
"Haha, a confident one, are you? Alright then, follow me. The surroundings here are still very dangerous."
With that, he led his team forward, and Alka and his companions followed.
Even though they could have walked in a straight line, the man kept leading Alka and the others on winding paths. There was a forest they could have passed straight through, but he insisted on taking them around a small nearby hill instead.
Seeming to sense Alka and his companions’ confusion, Bai Shi explained as they walked, "The environment on this Island isn’t safe. There are too many magical beasts, various dangerous plants, and frequent spatial rifts that bring strange monsters."
"Many ruins have also been activated by careless words. The people who activated them died without knowing how to close them, and the Spell can’t deactivate them either. So, in many cases, we have to take detours; otherwise, it would be very troublesome."
The people following him nodded.
This Island really is unsafe, it seems.
Alka finally understood why he had seen so many children in the Dream Realm who wanted to go outside but were afraid to.
Whenever he asked, the answer was always that if they sneaked out, their parents would give them a harsh beating.
So that was the reason.
After all, children are bound to gather in places like ruins. Moreover, since the language used to activate these ruins is their everyday speech, they might inadvertently trigger one at any time.
Hard lessons learned, indeed.
As they walked, they could see patrol members on both sides scattering some kind of pollen.
This ensured their journey, though winding, was swift, and no magical beasts came to obstruct them.
It must be because of the pollen.
Soon, they saw a wooden watchtower. After Bai Shi exchanged a few words with the person on top, they continued onward.
After passing one watchtower after another, they finally saw the Island’s settlement in the distance.
The walls, constructed from stone and wood, looked rather simple but seemed quite sturdy.
People dressed similarly to Bai Shi’s team members were patrolling on top.
To the side of the town, they could see areas that seemed to be used for agriculture.
Some individuals with the same gray skin tone were farming there.
Since the outer wooden walls were five to six meters high, they couldn’t see inside from where they stood.
Moreover, they could already see the nearby sea, indicating that this place was likely built by the coast.
It might also be close to locations suitable for building a harbor.
Alka and his companions had circled most of the Island the previous day but hadn’t come this way, so they hadn’t discovered it.
At this point, Bai Shi said, "This is Broken Town, the place where our people have lived for generations. Judging by the direction you came from, you must have landed in the bay over there, right?"
"If you leave and are lucky enough to return to this Island, you can go there. We have a small port built in that location."
"And, of course, if you could bring some supplies we need, we would welcome you even more warmly." Bai Shi turned his head and said with a smile.
He seemed quite fond of chatting with outsiders, conversing with Alka and his party in somewhat awkward language the entire way.
Listening to him, Alka nodded and replied with a smile, "Of course, if we do come again."
But what did he mean by ’lucky enough’?
