Chapter 434 - 228: Intelligence
When night fell once more, Alka and the others had already arrived at the place called Broken Town.
In the northeast corner of the town was a cluster of unused triangular houses.
This area had been specially designated by the rulers of Broken Town as lodging for outsiders.
The rent for one house was one Silver Snake per week.
Considering the surrounding environment and the size of the houses, if this were in the Homeland Sea, such a price would be akin to robbery.
But this was the Endless Sea.
To Alka’s surprise, even the people on this island used Silver Snakes for transactions.
Just as described in the books, these three currencies were used for trade almost everywhere, nearly reaching the status of a universal currency.
Of course, this primarily concerned the town’s leadership.
For the town’s ordinary residents, transactions were more often barter or part of a unified distribution system.
This was some of the information Alka had gathered during his day in the town.
They had rented four houses in total, enough for all of them to live in.
"Pororo, this largest house is for the two of us," Alka said, looking at the house, which was more than twice as large as the others nearby.
This room cost two Silver Snakes a week.
There was no choice; Pororo’s physique was much larger than that of a normal human, equivalent to a small giant.
Of the four houses they rented, the specially provided large one was occupied by Pororo and Alka.
Chadite, Julia, and Matilda shared one.
Jason, Simon, and Juanlu shared another.
The four dolls shared the last one.
Alka looked around; this area was specifically for renting houses to outsiders. At present, however, only their party, which had taken four houses, was staying there.
Perhaps because they were a group, the town’s residents had thoughtfully set up a bonfire in the empty space central to their four houses.
The wood crackled in the fire, sending sparks drifting upwards.
After a brief look at their rooms, Alka and Pororo went to the bonfire and sat down.
Pororo sat a little further away, using a stream of water to moisten his skin.
The daylight hours had been long, and he hadn’t been in contact with seawater for some time.
Gradually, everyone finished tidying up their temporary lodgings and gathered by the bonfire.
"We all spent today exploring the town separately. Did anyone discover anything?" Alka asked, looking at the group.
After Bai Shi’s patrol team had brought them to Broken Town earlier that day, they had been allowed to wander freely within its limits.
Just as they had learned in the Dream Realm, the presence of outsiders wasn’t considered unusual, as long as they didn’t disturb the residents or cause conflict; no one would bother them.
They were even told where to rent houses if they wanted to rest here temporarily.
Alka had previously thought the town might have something like an inn.
"All the residents here have Magic Power in their bodies, and their Magic Power is at least One Spiral," Jason said, gazing at the bonfire after poking it a couple of times.
Alka had already obtained this information yesterday in the Dream Realm and had briefly shared it with everyone.
Although they had been prepared, they were still somewhat astonished.
They had never in their lives seen so many people with Magic Power gathered in one place.
Jason continued, "These people, whose Magic Power is active due to the high-magic environment, are completely different from those who become Touchers by coming into contact with a Treasure."
"For these ordinary people whose Magic Power becomes active due to the environment, the survival rate of newborns is not high.
Even though their families have lived for generations in such high-magic environments and their physiques have adapted, newborns are not inherently able to withstand the surge of Magic Power within them.
The mortality rate among newborns is quite high, though the exact figures are unknown.
Furthermore, during their subsequent growth, the damage caused by Magic Power poses certain dangers for these children before they reach the age of five, and some of the weaker ones will succumb to illness and die."
When Jason finished speaking, everyone looked at him.
Juanlu scratched his head, somewhat confused.
"Did we really all enter this town at the same time?"
Why did it feel like Jason had already been in this town for some time? How could he have gathered so much information so quickly?
It was baffling.
"Hmph, I’m not finished yet," Jason said with a proud snort.
"I’ve discovered that someone in this town—perhaps the leader, or someone else—definitely possesses a Treasure."
"Oh? Why do you say that?" Alka asked curiously.
He had intentionally inquired about this in the Dream Realm, but no one had told him, so he wasn’t aware if anyone on the island possessed a Treasure.
"You said they wield power through the tattoos on their bodies, right?" Jason asked, looking at Alka.
Alka nodded. This was indeed information he had obtained in the Dream Realm and had previously shared with everyone.
"But today I observed that fellow, Bai Shi. He’s definitely stronger than me, right?"
Beside him, Julia nodded and said, "He gives me a somewhat dangerous feeling. He’s likely at the same Level as me."
Good. That means he’s around Six Spirals, perhaps even a bit higher.
Upon hearing Julia’s answer, Jason clapped his hands. "Exactly! He’s very strong, but he has very few tattoos—only one."
"How do you know that?" Simon asked curiously from the side.
