Chapter 1116: Overlord of the Demon World

Chapter 1116: Overlord of the Demon World

The wind swept up the ground’s chill.

On the cliff, Li Zi dragged her long white hair that trailed to the icy surface as she walked emotionlessly to stand before Elder Qu… in that moment, Elder Qu’s entire body was already covered in a layer of frost.

Li Zi extended a finger, her sharp nail gently tapping Elder Qu’s frozen form—instantly, the ice sculpture shattered into dust and scattered with the wind.

Afterward, pain surfaced on Li Zi’s face, a streak of blood trickled from the corner of her lips. She suddenly hugged herself tightly and collapsed to the ground.

Amidst several painful groans, her white hair gradually retracted… she slowly returned to her original appearance.

Li Zi staggered to her feet and walked to the cliff’s edge. Looking down, she saw only dense fog—nothing was visible beneath.

She remembered that one of the black-robed figures had also jumped down the cliff, but there’d been no sign of him since.

Li Zi hesitated for a moment but eventually chose to leap.

Her body pierced the fog at great speed—just before reaching the ground, she froze in shock.

Because she saw Ren Ziling!Ren Ziling was hanging from a tree branch. Li Zi quickly jumped up and gently brought her down.

Though her clothes were torn in several places, Li Zi was amazed to find that Ren Ziling didn’t have a single scratch on her body.

She was still breathing calmly.

Li Zi opened her mouth in disbelief, looking up at the ancient tree branches above. “Wow, the ‘falling off a cliff and surviving’ trope is real!”

As unbelievable as it was, nothing else mattered more than Ren Ziling being safe.

But Li Zi didn’t find any trace of the black-clad person who jumped with her… something she couldn’t figure out no matter how hard she thought.

Regardless, surviving this ordeal was a blessing. The battle had drained nearly all her demonic energy. Without further thought, she carried Ren Ziling on her back and began feeling her way out.

The snow spirits that had taken Akiko weren’t far. Sensing no agitation from them, Li Zi assumed Akiko was safe too.

After she left, dark mist slowly began to gather under the tree and drifted silently away.

Two black-robed figures arrived at the cliff.

They had followed the signals left behind by the Management Bureau agent and Elder Qu. But upon reaching the edge, they found only a frozen corpse—clearly the Bureau agent. He was already dead.

“What the hell happened here…” one of them muttered, touching the ground.

He tried to pick up some of the ice but realized he couldn’t break through the frosted ground.

“There was a surge of powerful demonic energy just now—but only for a brief moment,” the other said, frowning. “Something’s off. We need to report to the master immediately…”

At that moment, a loud boom echoed from within the fog, shaking the ground slightly.

It came from the Soul Orb forge!

“Something’s gone wrong!”

“Return immediately!”

This was a scene Bu Bugao never imagined he'd witness.

On the ground, tens of thousands of civilians, seemingly possessed, were walking step by step into a soul-devouring pit. Bu Bugao didn’t know what exactly was in the pit—but clearly, anyone who jumped in lost their life immediately.

He and Wang Hu had tracked the crowd this far.

With thousands of people moving through the area, the trail was obvious—even for someone with basic training like Bu Bugao, a rookie Management Bureau agent.

People were dying by the dozens every few seconds—there was no time left to hesitate or think.

“Damn!! My first mission and I walk into this?! I really am the chosen one!!” Bu Bugao yelled as he dashed forward. “What demon dares harm innocents here? Come out now!!”

Wang Hu opened his mouth, but it was too late to stop him.

“Demon scum, show yourself!!!”

Bu Bugao raised his gun and fired a few shots into the air. The echoes rang far across the land.

Suddenly, several figures burst from all directions and appeared before him—black robes, bronze masks, and overwhelming killing intent radiating from their bodies.

Bu Bugao hurriedly pointed his gun at them, trembling as he pulled out his ID from inside his jacket. “D-Don’t move! I’m with the Management Bureau! Don’t move!!”

“Kid, your ID’s upside down,” one black-robed man said coldly.

“I know that!! I was testing you!!” Bu Bugao flipped his ID quickly. “Don’t move! I mean it! I don’t care who you are or what you’re doing—stop it! Right now!”

The first black-robed man turned and said flatly, “Youwen, are all your new recruits this jumpy now?”

A man in a black suit stepped out of the crowd, holding a bell in his hand. “Lately, the top brass have been on diplomatic trips, pulling a lot of manpower. Every region’s understaffed. It’s normal to toss rookies into the field during a disaster.”

“Fine. He’s yours.” The masked man nodded.

He waved, and several black-robed figures vanished, heading toward the edge of the soul pit—they didn’t see the flustered rookie as a threat. The forging was at a critical stage, and they had no time to waste.

Bu Bugao was left staring at Youwen—the man dressed like him, appearing in his thirties. He was confused.

“What’s your name, when did you graduate, which academy, and what’s your ID number?” Youwen smiled and approached slowly.

“D-Don’t come any closer! Are you… with them?!” Bu Bugao asked, gun shaking.

Youwen gently gestured for him to calm down. “Relax. I’m not going to hurt you. It’s an old hand’s job to look after rookies.”

He kept walking forward.

But as soon as he stepped forward again, a bullet struck the ground at his feet—Bu Bugao had fired.

“I said don’t move! You deaf?!”

Youwen vanished in an instant—Bu Bugao panicked.

Before he could react, intense pain erupted in his abdomen, doubling him over.

“I told you to relax.”

Bu Bugao collapsed. Youwen quickly snatched and disassembled his gun, scattering the parts on the ground.

Standing on Bu Bugao’s shoulder, Youwen said calmly, “You’ve got guts. The Bureau needs fresh blood like you… but you came at the wrong time.”

“What are… you people planning?”

Bu Bugao coughed blood. He hadn’t expected a single punch to hurt this much.

“Even if you knew, it wouldn’t help you,” Youwen said, grabbing Bu Bugao by the hair and dragging him toward the edge of the soul pit.

But Bu Bugao gritted his teeth, reached behind his waist, and pulled out a metal rod. He swung it hard—it extended section by section into a long staff. He used it to strike at Youwen.

The swing forced Youwen to release him, and Bu Bugao quickly pushed himself up and jumped back to create distance.

“Demon-Slaying Whip?” Youwen sneered. His energy flared—his body began to swell…

His muscular body burst through his clothes, revealing terrifying muscles... clumps of earth-yellow fur began to grow wildly all over Youwen’s body.

His—its—head gradually lost all human shape, and both hands transformed into massive claws.

Before their eyes stood a giant black tiger!

The black Demon tiger twisted its neck and said, “This form is still the most comfortable. Working at the Management Bureau, wearing a human skin every day—my bones feel like they’re falling apart.”

“You’re... a tiger Demon?!” Bu Bugao’s eyes widened in shock.

He knew there were some non-human agents working in the Management Bureau… but those were usually elite agents stationed in high-risk areas across the country.

“Strange?” the tiger Demon Youwen sneered. “Kid, I told you—veterans look after rookies. So let me take good care of you!”

Bu Bugao was frozen in terror, his eyes darting frantically—this tiger Demon was part of the Management Bureau. A terrifying thought struck him like a siren:

Has something already infiltrated the Management Bureau? Are there others like Youwen? What is this thing behind the scenes?

But there was no time to think.

Tiger Demon Youwen had already launched his attack.

As someone born human, Bu Bugao’s hand-to-hand skills stood no chance against a fully demonized opponent. His pistol, capable of firing Spell Bullets, had already been dismantled earlier.

“You really are a rookie, huh? Doesn’t look like you were sent to any of the major sects or Demon clans for training,” Youwen mocked. “Must’ve been promoted from within the system—a complete newbie. First mission? Talk about hitting the jackpot—running into this on day one.”

The tiger Demon’s fist slammed once again into Bu Bugao’s shoulder—this time, it felt like his shoulder bone had fractured.

Bu Bugao collapsed like a ragdoll onto the ground.

“No point wasting time. You can go down too!”

The tiger Demon lunged at him again, trying to toss him into the abyss.

But just then, Bu Bugao suddenly reached into his belt and pulled something out—a bead no larger than a longan—screaming as he threw it!

Seeing the bead coming, the tiger Demon’s expression changed slightly, but it was too late to dodge!

BOOM—!!!

A thunderous explosion ripped through the ground, blasting open a several-meter-wide crater. Thick smoke billowed all the way to the pit’s edge.

Bu Bugao coughed up blood. Blood flowed from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth—the shockwave alone had ruptured his organs.

“You little punk!!”

A tiger’s roar echoed from the smoke! The black Demon tiger charged out, both arms flayed open and dripping blood. Its face was twisted and monstrous.

“Damn it!! Even that didn’t kill it?! Those idiots in the weapons department screwed me!!” Seeing Youwen charging at him, Bu Bugao closed his eyes in despair.

But right then, a louder, more dominant roar erupted behind him.

Bu Bugao instinctively opened his eyes.

He didn’t see what had happened before—it all happened in a flash.

The tiger demon, who hadn’t even been killed by the special thunderfire charge, now had his chest completely caved in and was sent flying dozens of steps back before finally stopping.

Beside Bu Bugao, Wang Hu held a side-kick pose… slowly retracting his leg.

Holy crap! This big guy’s a monster!!

Bu Bugao stared in disbelief at the guy they randomly dragged into this mess.

Damn!! Wang Hu, bro, I’m your fan from today on!!

The black tiger demon Youwen struggled to breathe, unable to resist the horrifying power now invading his body. He coughed up another mouthful of blood.

His eyes widened in disbelief. “You… how are you here… Your Majes—”

He never finished the sentence—his body collapsed face-first to the ground.

At that moment, the few remaining black-robed men at the pit’s edge sensed something was wrong. They immediately halted the forging of the Soul Orb. As they looked up and saw Wang Hu, their faces changed dramatically.

Why was the Overlord of the Demon World showing up at a critical moment like this?!

“Old Wang!! I didn’t know you were this strong!!” Bu Bugao hugged Wang Hu’s leg and used his pants to pull himself up. “I’m filing a medal request for you when we get back!!”

Wang Hu frowned slightly, shaking his head. “Did I… kill it? I don’t really know. It shouted something, and I just felt like… I had to kill it.”

“Huh?”

Wang Hu shook his head again. That feeling—he knew others wouldn’t understand. He looked at the remaining black-robed figures and frowned. “Whatever you guys are doing, I suggest you stop. This… isn’t right.”

“Not right?” The men laughed like they’d just heard a ridiculous joke. “You, of all people, pity these lowly humans?”

“What’s the problem?” Wang Hu suddenly replied. “Li Zi told me not to mess around, okay?”

“Li Zi…??”
