Chapter 1117: Li Zi Said So!
Chapter 1117: Li Zi Said So!
Li Zi said so!
Looking at Wang Hu’s righteous expression, the black-clad men subconsciously searched their memories from over the years—Li Zi, who exactly was that?
Being mentioned by Huang Baifu, the White Tiger heir, the name clearly belonged to someone of importance.
However, no matter how hard they searched, they couldn’t recall any information about “Li Zi.”
“This White Tiger heir seems a bit off.”
The black-clad men whispered among themselves.
“Could he have reached some kind of agreement with the Management Bureau... and is now standing on their side?”
After all, Wang Hu had just saved Bu Bugao and kicked the tiger demon Youwen to death—and then shouted at everyone to stop what they were doing.
The more they thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
“Attack!” one black-clad man shouted! He then charged forward with full strength, attacking Wang Hu. At the same time, two others quickly retreated to the pit’s edge and began casting spell seals used in Soul Orb refinement.
Seeing one of them charging at him, Wang Hu instinctively raised his arms to block.
The force of the strike was powerful, pushing Wang Hu’s legs into the ground. He roared, swung his arm, and though it wasn’t a sophisticated technique or infused with demonic energy, just pure brute strength, it sent the attacker flying as if hit by a freight train.
The attacker flipped in the air and landed with a crash, dragging his hand along the ground for over ten meters before he could stop.
“As expected of the strongest White Tiger—his brute strength alone is terrifying!” the man slowly stood up. “Then how about this move?”
He quickly formed a seal with both hands. The air behind him distorted, and two massive golden-armored war spirits appeared—each five meters tall, wielding a sword and a mace, exuding a powerful aura.
“Damn... why do these two look like temple guardians!” Bu Bugao exclaimed. “Is this... a Mount Mao spirit summoning spell!? Are you from Mount Mao?!”
The black-clad man didn’t respond, simply cast another seal. The two golden-armored spirits let out a roar and swung their weapons at Wang Hu!
Wang Hu, tough as ever, met the sword head-on with his arm. The sword couldn’t even cut his skin—in fact, it bent on impact! At the same time, the mace came crashing down toward his head.
But Wang Hu rammed his head into it, knocking the weapon from the spirit’s hand! He then flipped the sword from the other spirit and tossed it—along with the spirit—aside!
The black-clad man was shocked. Even though Wang Hu had lost an arm, his combat strength was overwhelming—and even more terrifying, he hadn't used any demonic energy at all. It was all raw physical power.
No wonder he's called the strongest White Tiger among the Four Celestial Spirits heirs.
“Old Wang! Save the people first!” Bu Bugao screamed.
These enemies were just stalling Wang Hu—over at the pit, others were still sending people in as live sacrifices to forge the Soul Orb.
“Got it!”
Wang Hu didn’t hesitate. He leapt up and slapped both golden-armored spirits to the ground—they couldn’t even get up.
Since these were spirits summoned by the Maoshan disciple, their destruction caused him to spit blood and nearly lose control of his technique.
“All together now!”
At the pit, several black-clad figures—some old Taoists with little life force left, others weakened demons—gritted their teeth and attacked.
They may no longer be in their prime, but once, they had been dominant forces. Even now, they were far from weak.
Sensing their power, Wang Hu’s demonic energy seemed to awaken—his eyes turned a fragmented golden color.
He took a deep breath and let out a massive roar—along with it, a powerful shockwave burst from his mouth.
ROAR——!!!
The shockwave pierced through the fog and shot into the sky. The black-clad attackers collapsed to the ground like piles of mud, steam rising from their bodies.
Bu Bugao felt like his brain had been struck with a hammer—just the roar alone nearly shattered his mind.
He didn’t know how powerful the shockwave really was. He only knew that these black-clad villains committing unspeakable acts had all been brought down.
Limping forward, he uncovered the masks of the fallen figures one by one—and gasped in horror.
“This is Green Mountain King! A wanted criminal who massacred dozens of villages ten years ago! This one’s a Quanzhen (全真, Complete Reality or Perfect Truth) Demon Cultist—he’s refined magic tools from live humans! At least a hundred people died at his hands! And this one… and this one too! They’re all on the Management Bureau’s most wanted list!”
Realizing who they were made Bu Bugao’s back go cold. “They’ve gathered here for… what!?”
He crept to the pit’s edge. At the bottom, blood-red spiritual energy boiled like flames. Within it, a deep crimson orb slowly rotated.
“All this… for that thing?” he muttered.
Looking back at the dazed crowd—tens of thousands—he couldn’t help but wonder: how many had already been sacrificed before he arrived?
“You okay?” Wang Hu walked up behind Bu Bugao and patted his shoulder.
Bu Bugao jumped in shock, face pale. He wanted to yell at Wang Hu, but recalling that terrifying roar, he swallowed his words and said, “I’m… still alive.”
“Good.” Wang Hu nodded. “So what now? What do we do?”
Bu Bugao looked at him, then at the orb—but suddenly, Wang Hu frowned and turned around.
From the mist, two shadows shot forward—men sent to assist Elder Qu. Upon discovering Qu and the others had died, they rushed back immediately.
“There’s more!” Bu Bugao cried.
Wang Hu clenched his fists—but strangely, as he did, he felt his whole body weaken. He shook his head and decided to use his palms instead.
But the two men didn’t attack—they leapt straight into the pit!
As they jumped, they shouted something unintelligible…
As the two figures disappeared into the scorching red spiritual energy, a massive pillar of red light shot into the sky from the pit. At the same time, the red orb within slowly rose along that beam.
Under Wang Hu and Bu Bugao’s astonished gazes, a hand suddenly tore through space and snatched the orb.
Wang Hu’s eyes flashed sharply as he launched himself skyward. But just as he was about to touch the mysterious hand, everything vanished without a trace—he passed through the light, grabbing nothing, and landed, puzzled.
The boiling red aura within the pit gradually dissipated, leaving behind nothing but a plain, ordinary hole.
Still rattled, Bu Bugao cautiously asked, “Old Wang... it’s over, right?”
“They’re gone,” Wang Hu replied, still staring at where the hand had vanished.
Bu Bugao let out a long sigh. Around them, the entranced civilians were collapsing to the ground. He hurried over and found they had merely fainted—he relaxed.
“They should be fine,” Wang Hu said calmly as he walked over.
“You’re not a doctor, how would you know?” Bu Bugao asked.
“I just... feel it. I can’t explain why.” Wang Hu shook his head. “So what now?”
Who the hell knows!
This was way beyond a rookie’s pay grade—if not for this absurdly strong Old Wang, Bu Bugao would’ve ended up as pulp in the pit… if even that remained.
But damn, this Old Wang was seriously strong!
Bu Bugao quickly thought things over and asked, “Forget about what I’ll do—what are you going to do?”
Wang Hu lowered his head and was silent for a while before replying slowly, “Li Zi said to follow the law… so, I’ll listen to you. Follow the law.”
Seriously, who is this Li Zi!?
“Alright then!” Bu Bugao said seriously, “Old Wang, I now officially appoint you as a wartime auxiliary personnel! Don’t worry—every agent has the authority to choose a logistics partner. I haven’t picked one yet, so you’re it! You’re my teammate now!”
“Oh.” Wang Hu nodded.
“Let’s do our best! With your strength, you’ll rise through the ranks in no time! You might even aim for National Guard status!”
“National what?” Wang Hu frowned.
“National Guard,” Bu Bugao repeated proudly. “It’s the highest honor in the Management Bureau. You need exceptional power and absolute loyalty. National Guards are assigned to protect the nation’s most important figures! If those bigshots weren’t on diplomatic visits right now, with their National Guards deployed, those fugitives would’ve been caught in minutes! I heard the First National Guard was already sent out to investigate the fog incident—no idea where he is now.”
“First National Guard?” Wang Hu looked curious.
“That’s right!” Bu Bugao grinned. “They call him the Firecloud Evil God in the martial world—said to be the strongest human alive! Anyway—good luck! I’m aiming to become Department Chief, and you can aim to become a National Guard! Let’s rise together!!”
“Oh.”
They then returned to the pressing matter—what to do with the tens of thousands of unconscious people.
Fortunately, among the civilians were some police officers and military rescue soldiers. One of them was a major named Leng Feng.
After Bu Bugao woke Leng Feng and explained everything, the major grasped the situation quickly—but he soon discovered something that made his heart sink.
Ren Ziling was missing.
Bu Bugao had told him that before he arrived, many had been pushed into the pit as sacrifices for that sinister orb. Leng Feng’s face went pale.
“Brother Luo… Er Lengzi couldn’t protect her…”
He walked to the edge of the pit, eyes brimming with tears.
“Major Leng?”
Leng Feng took a deep breath and turned around to face Bu Bugao. “I’m fine… civilians first. Let’s move fast. Mr. Bu, can you guide us out?”
“No problem,” Bu Bugao nodded—after all, his job was to assist with rescue and evacuation inside the fog zone.
He had been nervous going in alone—it was his first mission—but now with Old Wang around, he felt completely secure.
This mission's a wrap!
…
…
In a cavern, atop a towering altar, Lai Caisheng slowly withdrew his arm from one of the altar’s stone pillars.
In his palm, a bright red orb spun slowly.
Behind him, an old voice spoke: “This Soul Orb’s quality isn’t optimal.”
Lai Caisheng turned to see a figure wearing a bronze mask—the true 71st Generation of Heavenly Heart.
“There was an issue,” Lai Caisheng said calmly.
“Last time, Pit No. 19 hit a True Dragon. And now?” the masked man asked.
“Seems like the White Tiger heir, Huang Baifu.”
“It’s him…” Heavenly Heart lowered his head in thought. “Something has happened at the Penglai Treasure Vault. We don’t yet know what. But since Huang Baifu has appeared, it’s likely that Baijie and the others have returned as well. Add in the Management Bureau’s Firecloud Evil God, and this situation is turning against us.”
Lai Caisheng remained calm. “It’s fine… even though these two Soul Orbs aren’t perfect, we’ve gathered enough to refine the Million Soul Orb.”
He waved his hand, and dozens of bright red orbs appeared on the altar—each containing tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of souls.
Despite the name, a “Million Soul Orb” didn’t stop at one million. It could be two… or even three million.
At this moment, within the 200-kilometer radius blanketed by fog…
It had already become a land of the dead.
