Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One

Chapter 124: Finally Confirmed

Chapter 124: Finally Confirmed

Caelan’s POV

I took a deep breath as I put the last file down. Over the last few weeks since Alma’s visit, I have gone through many files concerning suspicious cases.

Just as Alma had said, there was something fishy about Jude Smith’s death.

And there were more people like Jude Smith in different packs who died for fabricated charges but they were so well orchestrated that finding new evidence would take time and effort.

However, I still hadn’t found my mated one even after all this time. Even though I had my doubts before about her identity, I haven’t confirmed it and couldn’t do so rushly in case I put her in danger.

The council wasn’t clean as well, some members were involved in all these cases in search of more power and immortality.

I discovered while investigating that there were some rumors going around saying that the chosen one could help people achieve immortality and everyone wanted to be the first to control her.

Thinking that this was my, the king’s mate so many people had unclean schemes against, I wanted to tear them all to shreds. But Alma had warned me not to expose her too early, otherwise it would get her killed.

Luckily, while others only thought that the chosen one could help them gain power, they didn’t know that she was my fated mate.

So, even if I got together with her, they wouldn’t discover her identity.

"I have to send people I trust to investigate Jude Smith’s case in person. Reading files in the archive won’t help." I muttered to myself.

Since Alma specifically came to me for Jude Smith and even made it clear that my mate was related to him, then there was a high possibility that my guess was correct.

In that case, getting justice for Jude might become my breakthrough to my mate accepting me.

I was just putting away the files when Casper burst into my office like usual without knocking.

However, this time I wasn’t irritated because he brought with him the most wonderful scent I have ever smelled in my life.

The scent didn’t just stir my heart, but even my wolf, Alaric, was awakened by it.

It purred and almost surfaced but I held it back.

However, it kept clawing at my mind calling, mate.

"He is not our mate. He is just carrying the scent of our mate. Stay cool and let me find out who she is and where she is. If you go on like this, we won’t be able to find anything." I had to calm down my wolf first.

"Okay. Find her. I want to see her." Alaric urged.

"Where did you go today? You don’t like leaving the pack for no reason." I couldn’t ask about my mate directly because I still needed to keep her safe. So, I had to ask in a roundabout way.

"Eh, buddy, you won’t believe it. Today I met a very interesting girl. She is so young but so strong. And although she tried hard to hide it, she is definitely a werewolf." Casper said with an amused expression.

I nearly wanted to knock him down, but I kept my cool.

"Oh, you have a mate, so don’t go chasing other girls or you will be in trouble." Of course I know that Casper would never betray his mate.

They have been together for over two centuries and we’re still very much in love. So, I just said that to get more information.

"Oh, c’mon. I am that kind of a man. That is a young girl I started mentoring online a few months ago. She is so talented in computer science. I have only been mentoring her for a few months and didn’t even teach her my core knowledge, yet she is already a mid-level hacker. I promised to give her more learning materials and I am sure once she is done, even I won’t be her match." Casper wasn’t stingy with his praise and I almost puffed up my chest in pride.

My mate was indeed extraordinary.

"You have such high praise for her? Then she must be a real talent." I said casually as if it didn’t matter to me, but I was overjoyed inside.

"Of course, look who her teacher is. But seriously, that girl is incredible. She seemed to have run away from home or something. She had me help her buy a house in the outskirts of the city. The house is hidden in a small forest and perfect for werewolves. Even though she tried to hide it, she is still young and she gave her identity away without knowing." Casper continued and my heart skipped a beat.

My mate was living alone in a forest? How could Casper leave her there alone?

"And you left her alone in such a place? What kind of mentor are you?" I unconsciously asked angrily, almost growling, causing Casper to look at me suspiciously.

Even though I trust Casper, I couldn’t let him know about my connection to the girl.

So, I took a deep breath before speaking again.

"As the beta of the Alpha King, you should know that it’s our duty to protect all werewolves. You leaving her alone doesn’t seem to be fulfilling your duty, right?" I asked this to eliminate any suspicions.

As expected, Casper sighed in relief.

"It’s not that I didn’t want to help, but that girl is too independent and too suspicious. She doesn’t trust easily and the fact that even though I am her mentor and has helped her a lot yet she still hasn’t actively told me who she is shows that she isn’t ready to come clean. So, I can’t be too forward, otherwise I will scare her." Casper explained his reasons and I understood what he meant.

"That’s understandable. Even though we are responsible for helping all werewolves, we can’t overstep if they are not ready. Just keep an eye on her and if you are worried, you can just make her stronger. That way, she can protect herself without us interfering too much." Of course, I would have loved to be the one to help her, but I couldn’t say it directly.
