Chapter 722 - 723 You are ruthless, shooting towards your own chest

Richard Shaw arrived at the villa in the middle of the night. When Ignatius Leclair got up, Delphine was startled awake and hoarsely asked, "What’s wrong?"

The man’s movements grew even gentler. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips, his deep voice murmuring, "Richard’s here. You continue sleeping, I’ll go check on him."

Delphine immediately woke up and got up to put on her coat.

Richard Shaw had just come from the Squire Family and was sitting in the living room. The security guards and medical personnel accompanying him were urgently extracting a bullet and treating his wound.

As soon as Delphine came downstairs, Ignatius Leclair was already standing in front of her, covering her eyes, and said gravely, "Don’t look. It’s a gunshot wound."

Delphine froze for a moment, catching the scent of blood and hearing the concerned voices of the medical personnel. "Major General, the bullet has been removed, but the location of the wound is a bit problematic. We need to return to the Imperial City for treatment as soon as possible to avoid infection."

"Hm." Richard Shaw’s voice was as deep as it could go, without any hint of emotion.

Delphine pried Ignatius Leclair’s hand away and looked at the slightly pale Richard Shaw. Seeing the blood-stained uniform on the man, the floor covered with bloodied bandages, the layers of gauze wrapped around his shoulder, and the array of wounds on his body, her complexion paled a few shades, and she felt slightly faint.

She couldn’t handle the sight of blood. Ignatius Leclair reached out to steady her trembling body and pulled her into his embrace.

Delphine took a deep breath to calm herself and asked softly, "Was it Griffith Squire? Is he hurt?"

Richard Shaw, with the bullet just extracted, shook his head and responded calmly, "The gunshot wound—I inflicted it on myself. Griffith Squire is fine."

After saying that, Richard Shaw leaned back into the sofa, closed his eyes slightly, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead, and waved his hand to dismiss the guards and medical personnel.

Ignatius Leclair pulled Delphine down to sit beside him. Seeing Richard in such a pathetic state, he frowned and said, "You really are ruthless, shooting yourself in the chest. Back when it all happened, how old were you? What does it have to do with you anyway?"

Richard Shaw said nothing. Only when the sharp pain in his shoulder blade subsided did he look toward Delphine. The man’s handsome and chiseled features carried a hint of seriousness and deep sorrow as he asked in a low voice, "Has Leah reached out to you?"

Delphine bit her lip and shook her head. She didn’t know where Leah was either.

A fleeting trace of disappointment crossed Richard Shaw’s pale, striking face before he spoke deeply, after a long silence: "Delphine, if Leah contacts you, please tell her that I’ll be waiting for her in the Imperial City so she can seek revenge for her family’s blood feud."

Delphine’s fingers trembled, her wide, dark eyes turning to Ignatius Leclair. Seeing the solemn expression on his face, she asked hesitantly, "What on earth is this about?"

At this point, with the truth already revealed to those involved, there was no need to keep it hidden anymore.

Ignatius Leclair’s deep, phoenix-like eyes fixed on Richard Shaw, and after a long while, he said in a low voice, "When Leah was young, she was adopted by the Lewis Family in the Imperial City. She’s Richard’s ex-wife and the biological mother of Casimir Shaw."

Delphine was so shocked she couldn’t utter a word. She looked toward Richard Shaw. She had heard of the Major General’s story from back in the day – young and accomplished, with military honors piled high, marrying and having a child, only for his wife to tragically die. After that, Richard Shaw had resigned, his legs crippled, and spent years confined to a wheelchair.

Delphine recalled her first encounter with Leah. Leah had been gravely injured, unable to stand, her life hanging by a thread, teetering the edge of death multiple times. Suddenly, everything clicked together seamlessly. No wonder, after regaining her memory, Leah had chosen to leave. Having faced life and death, burdened with the grudges of the previous generation, even someone as resilient as Leah could not bear the weight.
