Chapter 723: When Will We Have Our Wedding?

Chapter 723: When Will We Have Our Wedding?

Richard Shaw left the South Seas on a private jet in the middle of the night. As he walked away, his steps remained steady, his figure upright, showing no trace of his injuries. If Delphine hadn’t seen him tightly gripping the Buddha Beads on his wrist, she might have truly believed that no person or situation in this world could harm him anymore.

The rest of the night, Delphine couldn’t sleep no matter how hard she tried.

Ignatius Leclair noticed her troubled mind and went to warm a cup of milk for her. Returning, he held her in his arms and said softly, "Old Richard has had a rough time all these years. He chose to retreat at the height of his fame, not only giving up a brilliant future but also living alone in a small wooden cabin in the suburbs, leading the life of an ascetic."

If it hadn’t been for Leah’s incident midway, Richard’s position now might have been even higher.

"If he hadn’t had a child to care for, he wouldn’t have made it through these years either." Ignatius sighed deeply. "Thick-headed as he is, they say the Shaws are known for being fools for love. He’s not just a fool for love—he’s emotionally clueless too."

"After Leah’s incident, the Shaw Family erased all traces of her existence, didn’t they?" Delphine nestled in his arms. It was springtime, yet she felt the piercing cold. Leah had always been free-spirited, daring to love and hate; she had been like a sister to Delphine for the past few years. Even before leaving, Leah had left her some belongings to ensure she wouldn’t be penniless during hard times.

Such a Leah, however, was forced to leave. The tragedy of that year must have been unimaginable.

Delphine closed her eyes, concealing the dampness in them.

Ignatius nodded, saying, "The Shaw Family was afraid he would dwell on her, so they erased all traces of Leah’s past. Actually, I’ve heard Richard mention that there were other hidden truths about what happened back then."

The grudges of the previous generation—aside from those directly involved, no one truly knew. Ignatius, far away in the South Seas, didn’t know much more.

"Finish drinking your milk and I’ll hold you while you get some sleep. There are still a few hours until dawn." Ignatius rested his chin on her small head and said softly, "When should we hold our wedding?"

Old Richard’s loss of his wife had stirred a slight sense of urgency in Ignatius’s heart. His own identity wasn’t stable, and it seemed better to hold the wedding sooner and make their relationship official to the world. Although the South Seas situation remained precarious, Ignatius couldn’t wait any longer.

Delphine’s body suddenly stiffened. She raised her head, looking surprised, and stammered, "Wedding—wedding?"

The man’s gaze darkened as he narrowed his phoenix-like eyes dangerously and asked, "You’re not telling me you’ve never thought about marrying me, are you? We’ve been legally married for three years now, Delphine Carter."

Delphine was speechless. She truly had never considered holding a wedding. Such a bustling and lively occasion was destined to be mismatched with her quiet nature, her fear of crowds, her tendency to isolate herself, and the fact that the current Ignatius was his second personality. All of this made the idea of a wedding feel absurd.

"If, one day, the original Ignatius Leclair returns and finds out you secretly got married behind his back..." Delphine dodged the question and shook her head, avoiding his gaze as she stood up, saying, "I’ll go check if Nicholas and Benjamin kicked off their blankets."

As the man watched her slim figure fleeing, his handsome face carried a hint of melancholy. His first request for a wedding had been rejected. Even now, as Magnus Leclair, she still seemed to resist their relationship.

Over the past few years, her attitude toward people and things had become extremely detached. It was as if nothing could stir her emotions deeply. Ignatius narrowed his eyes sharply. Could it be that this woman didn’t love him at all?
