Chapter 720: Tonight I Want to Sleep in the Bed
Nathan Leclair saw Ignatius Leclair wrap his arm possessively around Delphine, his smile becoming even sunnier as he teased, "It’s been years since I’ve come back. Needed a break and some peace and quiet."
"Spending more time with Grandpa isn’t a bad idea," Ignatius said indifferently, giving Nathan a pat on the shoulder before leading Delphine into the side hall.
Nathan watched Ignatius’s tall and imposing figure retreat, squinting his eyes. After all these years, he was still as cold and distant. How has Delphine managed to deal with him all this time? Doesn’t she worry about freezing to death?
Ignatius entered the side hall to find Nicholas seriously drawing pictures on the carpet, while Benjamin was clutching an entire box of snacks, eating enthusiastically while tugging at his brother’s sketchbook. Ignatius’s expression instantly darkened, his voice sharp and dangerous as he called out, "Benjamin Leclair!"
Benjamin, in the middle of eating cotton candy, immediately choked at the sound of his father’s voice. He coughed pitifully, reaching out for water.
The elderly grandfather hurriedly fussed over her, calling her his precious baby while fetching a glass of water.
Nicholas put down his paintbrush and patted Benjamin’s back with his little hand, saying crisply, "Benjamin, you shouldn’t eat so fast next time."
Benjamin’s little face crumpled with tears—she had been scared, really scared.
Delphine harshly pinched Ignatius’s arm, only to feel how solid his muscles were, which left her own hand sore. She gave up on him entirely and turned to comfort Benjamin instead.
Ignatius stood there, his face covered in black lines as he watched the entire room revolve around Benjamin. He let out a cold snort.
Benjamin, after drinking water and no longer coughing, dived headfirst into Delphine’s arms, pretending to be a little ostrich.
The elderly grandfather, seeing his great-granddaughter frightened, tapped his cane on the floor and dragged Ignatius off to give him a lecture on proper parenting.
On their way back, Benjamin obediently sat beside Delphine, carefully ensuring her dress was smooth and crease-free, lest her father lose his temper and decide to spank her.
They made it back home without incident, and Benjamin dashed into her room, shutting the door behind her and cheering aloud.
Ignatius saw this, squinted his sharp eyes slightly, but didn’t bother dealing with the little rascal. Instead, his gaze shifted to Delphine, and he spoke in his low voice, "Because of Benjamin, you pinched me twice today, and Grandpa lectured me. My pride’s been wounded, and my authority as a father has been diminished."
Delphine looked at the handsome man in front of her and couldn’t help but picture him as a big dog wagging its tail in an attempt to curry favor. Chuckling, she asked, "So?"
"So, tonight, I’m sleeping on the bed," the man shamelessly declared, his voice deep and sultry, tinged with a hint of seduction.
The next day, Benjamin—ready to play it safe and act like a low-key little ostrich—noticed her father seemed unusually cheerful. He even suggested taking her and Nicholas to the zoo to see gorillas, leaving her completely dumbfounded.
"Why should we look at gorillas? They’re so ugly!" Benjamin protested, trailing behind Delphine and toddling around, saying, "Mommy, I want to see cute little tigers instead."
Her father looked up from the dining table and drawled in his usual unhurried tone, "Benjamin, the cute little tiger ate too many sweets and lost all its teeth. It’s currently at the animal clinic and refuses to be seen by visitors."
Benjamin froze in the living room, clutching her tiny head before hesitantly asking, "Mommy, do little tigers also like eating sweets?"
Delphine picked up the adorable Benjamin, seating her next to her brother for breakfast as she laughed softly, "That’s why Benjamin can’t imitate that little tiger, okay?"
Benjamin nodded seriously, her large eyes curving into crescent moons as she smiled brightly. She was determined to become a little tiger that wouldn’t lose its teeth!
