Chapter 717: It’s because I am too old, I never attended the same school as you.

In the silent early hours of a spring night, the man knelt by the bedside, his warm and calloused hand still holding her smooth, petite foot. His voice was low and seductive as he asked, "I remember you used to call him Griffith brother?"

Under the dim light of the night lamp, the man’s handsome face was indistinct. Delphine’s small foot was gripped tightly by his fingertips, causing her to cry out in pain. A vague sense of unease washed over her, and she instinctively tried to withdraw her foot as she replied, "I don’t really remember. We just went to the same school in the past."

Ignatius narrowed his phoenix-like eyes and said expressionlessly, "I guess I’m too old now; we never attended the same school."

The tone of his words was so sour it could almost rot teeth. Finally, Delphine understood why he was acting so strangely. She had merely asked a question, and here he was, as if he’d overturned a whole jar of jealousy.

She chuckled softly, her hand hesitating before it touched the man’s breathtakingly handsome face. A hint of moisture flashed in her dark eyes. She used to love this man so deeply, but after being hurt beyond recognition, she no longer believed in love. Yet now, it seemed he was only just beginning to understand what love really meant.

Fate was truly cruel.

She let out a quiet laugh and said, "Being a bit older is good. Being older means knowing how to care for someone."

Ignatius’s gaze deepened, and he murmured a low "Hmm" before leaning in to kiss her forehead. He said in a low voice, "Sleep now; I’ll go return Richard’s call."

The man tucked her blanket securely before standing and returning to his own room to make the call.

After seeing him close the door, the room plunged into shadow. Delphine froze momentarily in the dimness, then rose to retrieve the wooden box Leah had entrusted her with before departing. Inside the box was a dazzling Red Diamond Necklace, along with several other valuable pieces of jewelry.

Delphine’s heart chilled. She recalled Leah’s words from the previous day and immediately understood—Leah must have remembered past events. This mysterious disappearance was no accident.

These items were left to Delphine for emergencies.

Ignatius returned to his room and called Richard back. He said thoughtfully, "When I got there, Griffith was just about to board a private plane to Imperial City. I intercepted him. What’s your situation over there?"

Richard’s strikingly handsome yet cold face was icy as he replied gravely, "It’s a mess. Does Griffith really not know about Leah’s disappearance?"

Ignatius narrowed his phoenix-like eyes, rubbing his chin, and said nonchalantly, "It doesn’t look like he knows, but I can’t shake the feeling that something is off. Griffith’s reaction seemed far too composed. Even if he does know, he wouldn’t tell you. For all we know, this might just be another act—something he and Leah orchestrated together."

Richard fell silent for a long time, the only sound being his steady breathing.

As a devoted brother, Griffith had treated his sister like his own daughter all these years. Given Ignatius was able to stop him, it clearly meant Griffith was aware of Leah’s disappearance.

A sharp pain throbbed in Richard’s head as he struggled to contain his near-simmering emotions. He said in a restrained tone, "Ignatius, you’ll have to get Leah’s whereabouts out of Delphine."

"Delphine isn’t good at hiding things. I’ll do my best. For now, you should focus on cleaning up the mess in Imperial City." Leah had stirred up chaos in Imperial City before her departure, and the Squire siblings were definitely no easy opponents. Ignatius gave Richard a sympathetic look, resolving to keep an eye on his own woman to avoid ending up in the same miserable state.

Ignatius squinted his eyes slightly. His woman was still so lovable and obedient, always worry-free.
