Chapter 401 If I Walk Away, Ignatius Leclair Will Bother You Every Day
Delphine stared at the words "open the door" on the message, her heart pounding as she silently went to open the Leclair Family’s front door.
Under the curtain of night, the outside of the Leclair mansion was deathly quiet, save for the faint, amber glow of the streetlights illuminating the plane trees. Delphine stood watching for a moment before a shadow darted in—Leah, clad in tactical gear, her entire body drenched as though dragged out of water. Her face was ghostly pale as she placed a trembling hand on Delphine’s shoulder and murmured in a hushed voice, "Anyone home in the Leclair Family?"
"No one. They’ve all gone out. Quick, come in." Delphine supported her, noticing her ice-cold hands and feet. Leah’s whole body was trembling from the cold to the point her teeth were chattering. Delphine’s expression shifted slightly as she silently aided her upstairs, opened the bathroom shower, and helped her into the bathtub.
Leah didn’t even bother taking off her clothes as she sank into the warm water, finally starting to feel like she’d escaped death. She took a deep breath, her teeth still chattering, and said, "I nearly kicked the bucket today."
"Are you hurt?" Delphine’s eyes reddened slightly as she hurried to grab a towel, unravel Leah’s damp hair, and rub her frozen, numb hands and feet.
"Just scrapes and bruises, nothing serious," Leah replied nonchalantly.
Delphine unzipped Leah’s black tactical suit and saw her pale skin covered in bruises and abrasions. Her heart clenched with both sorrow and anger as she fetched the first-aid kit.
"Delphine, can you try to reach my brother? My final move was to drive both myself and the car into the sea—he’s probably worried sick."
Delphine called Griffith Squire, then entered with the first-aid kit, speaking softly, "Your brother’s frantic. He said you shouldn’t return home for a few days and should lay low somewhere safe."
"What’s there to be frantic about? We’ve faced situations way more dangerous than this before and came out fine. If I find out who sent people after me tonight, I’m going to camp out at their doorstep every day." Leah spoke with frustration. Catching Delphine’s unusual demeanor, she paused her movements and squinted her peach-blossom eyes, saying, "Why are there no Leclair Family members around, leaving just you home alone? Did something happen?"
Delphine bit her thin lips lightly and told Leah in a low voice about her biological mother and the events of the night.
Leah held her breath as she listened, her face filled with anger as she retorted, "You’re seriously infuriating me! That kind of scum isn’t worth keeping. You should’ve just cut ties and walked away. And now you want to pair Ignatius Leclair with Melody Cloud? On top of that, you’re actually considering helping out that green tea bitch Melody Cloud?
Delphine Carter, you’re seriously driving me mad. Don’t you see how tomorrow that green tea bitch will turn on you, getting her Cloud Family to sic themselves on you?"
Delphine’s expression cooled, and she replied indifferently, "You don’t understand Ignatius Leclair. If I were to simply leave, he’d cause trouble for you all daily in the future. You’ve worked so hard to settle down in South Asia. As for pairing him with Melody Cloud, it’s hardly that—I may have been the mastermind behind tonight’s plan, but the one who made the move was ultimately Melody herself. Given Ignatius Leclair’s capabilities, he’ll figure it out eventually. When that happens, even if they qualify as a match made in heaven, they’ll end up bitter enemies. I have plenty of ways to make their lives unpleasant."
"Hmph, don’t worry. As long as I’m here in South Asia, that green tea bitch Melody Cloud won’t get to live comfortably," Leah said venomously. She winced immediately afterward, the sting from applying the medicine making her scrunch up her face in pain.
Leah’s antics dissipated the evening’s suffocating gloom looming over Delphine. She picked up the medicine and carefully tended to Leah’s wounds.
"Did Griffith mention who’s targeting you?" Delphine asked thoughtfully. "Earlier tonight, Richard Shaw mentioned wanting to look for you both. Yet, he has this polished, gentlemanly demeanor that makes him seem far from ruthless."
