the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart

Chapter 1099: As for Her, He Has Already Shown Restraint

Chapter 1099: As for Her, He Has Already Shown Restraint

Crystal finished speaking, noticing his handsome and stern face becoming even more somber, exuding a chilly and fierce aura, which ironically made her feel better.

She should have scolded him sooner; she’d been holding it in all day. If he really liked Luna so much, he should just marry her. Why bother with a compromise, marrying Crystal with an air of self-sacrifice, then resenting her three times a day—yet it’s never enough—and keeping his "pure love" around to annoy her, as if she were easy to bully?

Richard Shaw was rendered speechless by her sharp tongue, his mood suddenly clouded. With her wrist in his grasp, he dared not use force and said in a low voice, "I only spoke a few words with her last night before bringing her back to see you. I’m not secretly loving one while sleeping with another."

The man was in a depressive mood; Luna was his responsibility, and he couldn’t just ignore her. Perhaps he had a fondness for her once, as Luna had been with him during those lonely and arduous years of military life. But since returning to Imperial City with Crystal, he hadn’t thought about Luna at all.

A man’s ambitions lie beyond; his thoughts are always focused on protecting the nation, leaving no time for romantic pursuits.

As for sleeping with her, he had been quite restrained. His own wife, only once a week, and he was already accommodating her so much.

Richard thought of her looking for Hawk in the dead of night, sleeping in Hawk’s bedroom. His face grew darker: she didn’t like him anymore, and had taken a liking to Hawk? Did she think emotions were children’s games, liking one person today and another tomorrow?

That Howard Family’s pretty boy, weak as a kitten, with a face full of charm—absolutely unacceptable.

Richard’s handsome face turned somber, he murmured, "Come back with me, I’ll explain anything you want to know."

"No need for explanations, I see everything clearly." Crystal’s face was cold and her charming eyes narrowed frostily, saying, "If you’re concerned about Grandma, I’ll tell her I want a divorce; it’s unrelated to you. Afterward, you can marry whoever you want, explain to whoever you want."

Her personality was always decisive, never wishy-washy. Either Richard completely cut off ties with his fake innocent, or they sever theirs entirely. If he wants to maintain both, take care of his "pure love" while still pretending nothing happened with her, and continuing to sleep with her, he’s dreaming.

Richard, hearing her mention divorce again, pursed his thin lips. His cold, stern face was enveloped in a layer of ice as he said firmly, "Marriage is no trifling matter, and military marriage doesn’t allow for divorce."

Divorce, so she could marry that pretty face from the Howard Family? She shouldn’t even think about it.

Hawk happened to bring out the chicken soup noodles, purposely only two bowls, inviting Crystal, "Eat first, then argue. I simmered this old hen after you went to sleep last night, just in time to nourish you."

Crystal shook off Richard’s hand, walked to the dining table, and upon seeing the enticing chicken soup noodles, her eyes narrowed with delight. "Caspian, you’re so good."

"Did you not mooch off my meals enough in high school? Stop with the flattering, hurry up and eat." Hawk said indifferently, then sat her down to breakfast as he ate. As for Major General Shaw from the Shaw Family, sorry, he was not included. Not only was he excluded, but he should be furious; these two years, his wife had been indulged by Caspian. What right did Richard have to establish dominance? He should leave quickly and make space.

Beside them, Richard was so angered his vision nearly blacked out. He could cook too; during those military district years, he honed excellent culinary skills. He could even make beggar’s chicken; it’s just she hadn’t tasted his cooking.

So, in those two years at the Military District, Caspian had been eyeing her? No wonder Crystal trusted him like this.

Richard’s face turned steel blue, suddenly realizing he had paid far too little attention to Crystal.

"Major General." A man, called Shoey, knocked and entered, speaking in a low voice. "There’s urgent military business at the district, roughly related to peacekeeping."

Major General spent the night at this apartment building, and they waited outside the night; just the military district was most untimely, sending urgent business at this critical moment.

Richard nodded indifferently, instructed, "Have Eamon Turner come up, he will protect my wife closely from now on, wherever she goes."

Eamon was the most capable man under his command, taciturn with few words, deeply trusted by Richard Shaw.

Shoey nodded and called Eamon up.

"Crystal, I have urgent business at the military district; soon Eamon will send you to the hospital. If you have anything, instruct him." Richard said in a deep voice.

Crystal was silent, not lifting her eyes.

The man shot her a deep glance, turned, and hurried to the military district, asking Shoey the details as he walked.

"There’s been a riot from the Middle East, involving a base terror attack. Specifics should be known upon returning to the military district. Major General, your wife is pregnant; if it involves peacekeeping anti-terror measures, you cannot charge forward as before." Shoey advised.

In the Southwest Military Zone, Richard Shaw had rapidly climbed the ranks through repeatedly charging to the forefront, earning countless military honors. This time, the Middle Eastern riots exploded into significant scale; deploying peacekeeping troops would mean starting a war.

The Shaw Family already had few heirs; Shoey, while advising Major General, suddenly felt grateful for his wife. Luckily, his wife was pregnant; having two children in three years would be even better.

Richard said nothing, the vehicle drove straight to the military district.

After Richard left, Crystal lost her appetite, told Hawk, "I should go back to the hospital, unless Grandmother gets worried."

Hawk’s face turned cold, he said flatly, "Go ahead, get all battered with blood and return."

Crystal felt a bit touched at his words, looked at his handsome, indifferent face, said nothing more. Even if unaware of Caspian’s sentiments before, over two years she’d become somewhat aware of them. Caspian’s kindness toward her was to retreat and remain within the safety of friendship’s boundary, standing by silently.

She was, after all, now a Shaw Family member, had always regarded Caspian as a confidant; she only pretended not to know through jokes.

As Crystal exited the apartment building, she saw Richard’s silent subordinate, on the previous day in the deep forests of the Southern Region, she had an impression of this person; likely he was Richard’s right-hand man.

"Madam is headed to which hospital? The best OB/GYN is actually not the Military District Hospital but the First Hospital." Eamon Turner opened the car door for her. They were driving the military district’s SUV with a conspicuous license plate, very high-profile.

"Then let’s go to the First Hospital." Crystal nodded and said.

Eamon placed a call, then drove to First Hospital.

After Crystal arrived at the hospital, there were staff waiting, leading her through the highest level of medical access, smoother than at the Military District Hospital.

While waiting for her to go in for a check-up, Eamon took out his communication device, punched in a string of encrypted numbers and sent it out.

The tall and robust man leaned against the white wall, hiding the brilliance in his eyes.
