Chapter 1098: In Love with One, Sleeping with Another
The two grown men sat with open eyes in the living room, vaguely hostile yet forced to tolerate each other’s presence, till dawn broke.
Crystal Landon woke up around seven; her biological clock was still set to school hours. She opened her eyes, looked at the unfamiliar bedroom, and paused for a few seconds before recalling this was Hawk Howard’s home, and she had slept in his room.
If Grandma Shaw knew she left in the middle of the night, she would be worried sick. Crystal got up and quickly freshened up. The panic from yesterday had slightly dissipated today, and she thought to herself that Richard Shaw was not the kind of person who pretended to be sweet while concealing malice. Even if he didn’t like her, he probably wouldn’t hurt this child. She was just too mentally stressed.
Crystal looked at her pale reflection in the mirror, patted her face, wanting to cheer herself up. She left the bedroom and feebly called out to Hawk Howard, "Caspian, I’m hungry, I want spicy beef noodles."
Hawk Howard stayed up most of the night and eventually fell asleep on the sofa, while Richard Shaw stayed up all night.
When Crystal woke up, the two men in the living room simultaneously opened their eyes.
As she opened the door and called out about being hungry, Caspian chuckled lightly. Sometimes he really thought he was feeding a pig, always looking for him, just hungry, hungry, hungry.
"You have a baby now, you need to watch your diet. No spicy food in the morning," Hawk said as he stood up and stretched, "I’ve made soup for you, chicken noodle soup will do."
"Oh." Crystal pouted; chicken noodle soup was acceptable. She was about to speak when she suddenly realized there seemed to be an additional person in the living room. Seeing the tall, silent figure standing by the floor-to-ceiling window that couldn’t be ignored, her face instantly turned cold, her body tensing up. Why is he here?
Richard Shaw was seeing her for the first time in such a lazy, sleepy state, and seeing her whole-heartedly trusting a man who lived alone, a surge of anger roiled within him. Did she not know Hawk Howard harbored ill intentions towards her, yet dared to sleep here overnight?
"Crystal, I’ve come to take you back," the man spoke in a deep voice.
"Caspian, go cook the noodles," she said to Hawk, not wanting to argue with Richard Shaw in front of him.
Hawk squinted slightly, saying coldly, "You have to eat all of the noodles later, no leftovers."
Saying that, Hawk went off to cook the noodles.
Richard Shaw struggled to suppress his anger and walked up to her, speaking in a low voice, "Yesterday the fetal condition wasn’t stable. We need to do another check-up today. I’ll take you to the hospital."
Crystal looked calmly at his still handsome and stern face. She used to really like this indifferent demeanor, but later realized he wasn’t cold and heartless towards everyone, making it all seem meaningless.
"I’ll call Mrs. Zhao later to switch hospitals. No need to waste your time on me, Major General; you’re busy with your duties," she said with her long eyelashes lowered indifferently, her voice also carrying a sense of detachment.
Richard Shaw’s face changed slightly as he reached out to grab her, clutching her soft, slender wrist, feeling her warmth. The anxiety-filled night finally felt a bit real, and he spoke with a low, hoarse voice, "Stop being stubborn. Come back with me, okay?"
"No," she replied, raising her eyes, her beautiful peach blossom eyes full of clear coldness, sneering, "Men like you are really something, always thinking women are acting up. Richard Shaw, do you think I still like you now? You, with one foot in two boats, liking one in your heart while sleeping with another. A man seeking both emotional and physical satisfaction—what is there to like about you?"
