Chapter 1068: Replace the Madam, Marry the Major General?
The Southwest Military Zone, although it has female soldiers, none can match Luna Lawrence in beauty. Every time Luna visits the military district to see Callix Lawrence, the rough men there can’t help but steal a glance. Later, after Luna openly showed her affection for the Major General, everyone stopped having ideas.
Soldiers are straightforward like that. They figured a pretty girl was interested in the superior, and with no one in the Southwest Military Zone as beautiful as her, they all assumed she was the superior’s woman and stopped longing after Luna.
After Callix Lawrence sacrificed himself, the Major General took great care of Luna. Being a man who valued emotions and promises, everyone thought Luna would one day become the superior’s wife. No one expected Shuangzi to accompany the Major General back to the Imperial City and encounter the real wife, who was stunning beyond imagination.
Luna might be considered a top beauty in the Southwest, but the wife’s beauty could outshine the most beautiful stars in the entertainment sector.
Shuangzi sighed inwardly; the Major General was already married, so what could Luna achieve by causing such a stir on New Year’s Eve?
Shuangzi pulled himself together, lifted Luna, placed her in the car, and then drove her to the hospital.
Richard Shaw sat in the back seat. Seeing her pain-stricken face, he spoke in a low voice, "Hold on, once we apply the medicine and administer the IV at the hospital, it won’t hurt as much."
Luna weakly smiled and said, "I can take it; this pain is nothing. My parents have beaten me since I was young. In the Imperial City, with no one I knew, I reluctantly called you. For the past six months, I’ve been trying not to bother you."
Richard Shaw noticed her forlorn and pale face and nodded, saying, "No problem, find me if you can’t solve something, or find Shuangzi. Are you adjusting well to life in the Imperial City?"
"It’s going well. It’s just that, being from the mountainous region, many classmates are reluctant to hang out with me. Living alone in such a big house feels empty, so I want to find a smaller place," Luna said softly. "I found a part-time job as a tutor, making enough each month to cover tuition and living expenses. Richard, you don’t have to worry about me. I also want to send the rent to you monthly."
Richard Shaw gave a faint smile and said, "When your brother left, he was most worried about you. You don’t need to worry about money; just focus on your studies, nothing else."
Luna nodded, looked at the wound on his brow, and reached into her pocket for tissues, dampening them with bottled water in the car, intending to wipe the blood around the wound.
Seeing her approach, Richard Shaw hesitated slightly, instinctively moving away and reaching for the tissue, saying softly, "I’ll do it myself."
The man clumsily pressed his brow, feeling a slight pain, then stuffed the tissue into the car’s trash paper bag.
Driving, Shuangzi kept his ears peeled for any noise from the back, noticing the lively conversation between the two, suddenly speeding up the car. The Major General has always been a sincere man; Luna saying this, is she trying to set him up?
Does she want to replace the wife, marry the Major General? Shuangzi scared himself with the thought but found it unlikely—after all, Luna was a farm girl from the Southwest Mountains, alone and unsupported—how could she dare?
The Major General’s wife is incredibly beautiful, and the family matriarch is notoriously formidable. If Luna truly wanted to enter the Shaw Family, she’d have to persuade the Major General to sever ties with them, otherwise, it would be impossible.
