Chapter 1067: Folk Songs That Keep People Awake All Night
Shane had something to say but held back as he accompanied the Major General upstairs. Noticing his cold and stern expression, he decided to remain silent and determined to stay with the Major General the entire night, planning to report to the Madam to clear the Major General’s name.
Richard Shaw knocked on the door and found it ajar. As he pushed it open and entered, he saw the three-bedroom apartment’s living room brightly lit, with Luna Lawrence sitting alone amidst shattered water bottle fragments on the floor.
Upon seeing him, Luna’s pure, fair face showed a hint of joy. She tried to stand up but collapsed back down weakly, saying timidly, "I’m sorry, Richard, I accidentally got scalded and had to call you."
Before she finished speaking, she noticed Shane behind Richard, and her smile froze instantly. She forced a weak smile at him.
Richard Shaw frowned, his expression icy as he looked at her immobile leg and said in a low voice, "Do you have scissors?"
Shane quickly stepped forward, found the scissors, and smiled, "I’ll do it, Major General. I’m very careful; I won’t hurt Luna."
Richard Shaw, in a somewhat foul mood that night and unfit for such delicate work, nodded in agreement.
Shane bent down and promptly cut open her jeans, revealing burns all over her thigh, blisters forming. Even a slight touch made Luna’s face turn pale with pain.
Enduring the piercing pain without a word, Luna squinted her eyes and looked at Shane, nearly having a heart attack from anger.
On New Year’s Eve, why did he come along? He has a family, unlike her who is alone; what’s he doing here, making a fuss? She wasted no effort risking her leg and being unable to dance by pouring a whole bottle of boiling water on it.
"Richard, how did you hurt your brow?" Luna suddenly noticed the wound on Richard’s forehead and asked anxiously.
"It’s nothing," Richard replied gravely, seeing her severe injury that clearly made it impossible for her to walk. "I’ll take you to the hospital."
"I’ll do it, I’ll do it, Major General, could you please help me get the down jacket? I’ll carry Luna," Shane said, feeling as if he was ready to embrace death.
Luna gritted her teeth in anger. Richard reconsidered, knowing he was now married and indeed should avoid any suspicion, so he nodded and went to the bedroom to get a down jacket for her.
"Shane, why did you come too?" Luna asked faintly.
"I was worried about the Major General. It’s New Year’s, and I didn’t want the Shaw Family to worry, so I came along," Shane replied with an awkward smile.
He knew about Luna’s feelings for the Major General. The Southwest Region, unlike the Imperial City, rarely produced a beautiful girl like her, capable of singing and dancing; her mountain songs could keep people awake all night.
Luna, growing up like this, was always considered a goddess among those rough men.
Shane used to have a secret crush on her, but Luna had high standards and looked down on everyone, leveraging her brother Callix Lawrence’s deep bond with the Major General to get close to him, treating others with aloofness. Later, when Shane returned to the Imperial City and saw the Major General’s wife, he saw Luna as ordinary and gradually lost his infatuation.
In fact, everyone shared some concern for Luna. Her parents from the Lee Family were particularly despicable, attempting to sell her as a wife at fifteen, which was stopped by Callix at all costs.
Callix was a native mountain child, honest and simple, settling his sister in a town near the Military District, providing for her education and living. In a later mission, Callix sacrificed himself to save the Major General, leaving Luna as the Major General’s responsibility.
