Chapter 117: Tess Young’s Little Thoughts
Chapter 117: Tess Young’s Little Thoughts
With each autumn rain, the cold deepens. After a bout of rain, the weather turned even colder. Holly curled up on the sofa, binging on dramas with the heater on in the living room.
She really felt very cold, and now she just felt lazy all over, not wanting to move at all.
She craved the crunch of candied hawthorn, the soft warmth of roasted sweet potatoes, sweet chestnuts, and steaming hot milk tea.
However, she didn’t feel like moving at all.
"Holly hasn’t gone to class in days. Could anything be wrong?"
Mrs. Hayes finished tidying up the kitchen and looked at Holly, who was nestled on the sofa, asking with concern.
Being not much of a scholar herself and having never attended college, she didn’t understand if skipping classes would be an issue.
Holly had been hanging around at home these past few days, barely moving. She wondered if it would disrupt her studies.
"No, it won’t be."
Holly shook her head.
Ugh, she really didn’t want to go to school anymore, it was just too annoying.
"Alright then."
Mrs. Hayes immediately felt relieved.
As long as it wasn’t a problem, she wasn’t too concerned with the rest.
"Holly, is there anything you’d like to eat? I can make it for you."
Mrs. Hayes wiped her hands and inquired.
It was downtime, and she had confidence in her cooking skills to whip up anything Holly desired.
Leo Grant used to come home for meals punctually, and she would always prepare various delicacies for him.
Having researched culinary skills for a long time, she figured she could make whatever Holly wanted.
"I want candied hawthorn, roasted sweet potatoes, sugar-fried chestnuts, and milk tea."
Holly blinked and declared in earnest.
She just suddenly craved them, with no particular reason.
"Alright, I’ll make them for you," Mrs. Hayes responded with particular promptness.
"Can you do it?" Holly asked, looking at Mrs. Hayes.
She had merely mentioned what she was craving, not expecting Mrs. Hayes to actually make them.
"Sure, when the young master was little, I used to make candied hawthorns for him, he just didn’t like them much. Sugar-fried chestnuts and roasted sweet potatoes are quite easy. Mrs. Hayes loved drinking milk tea when she was younger too."
Mrs. Hayes spoke slowly, a broad smile on her face.
She had great confidence in her cooking skills, claiming there wasn’t much she couldn’t make.
However, she hadn’t made roasted sweet potatoes and sugar-fried chestnuts for Leo since he didn’t like sweets, so she wouldn’t make overly sweet things for him.
"You’re so skilled, Mrs. Hayes."
Holly smiled, rather envious of Leo.
Envious that he had such a culinary-talented aunt to prepare such delicious food.
"Practice makes perfect."
Mrs. Hayes said, having made a living with her cooking skills.
Mrs. Hayes went off to cook for Holly, who continued lounging on the sofa, immersed in her dramas.
Ugh, with the weather getting colder, she really didn’t want to move anymore, increasing her laziness.
Suddenly the doorbell rang. Reluctantly, Holly went to open the door. Outside was Tess, whose eyes were somewhat red.
"What’s wrong?"
Holly was stunned, looking at Tess in disbelief.
Having known Tess for a long time, she was a particularly strong girl, with a bold personality like a boy—cool and tough.
She never really shed tears, always remarkably strong.
"Hey."
Tess saw Holly, grinning stiffly.
"Come in."
Holly opened the door, and Tess walked in.
Holly poured a cup of warm water for Tess and sat opposite her, waiting for her to speak.
"I can’t go back with Diana Curtis."
Tess tightly gripped the cup, took a deep breath, her eyes a bit red, looking at Holly with difficulty speaking.
Holly: "???"
Can’t go back?
What’s that supposed to mean?
Did Diana Curtis and Tess ever get along?
"Did you guys ever get along?"
Holly raised an eyebrow, speaking slowly, slightly puzzled.
"I took the assignment in Bexley, not because I liked it, but because Diana Curtis was there."
Tess lowered her head, gripping the cup tightly, her veins visible from the strain.
Holly: "???"
Holly’s mind was filled with question marks. Was there a connection here?
Sorry, she didn’t know.
"Diana Curtis gave up pursuing Jasper Hayes."
Tess bit her lip tightly.
Holly looked at Tess with confusion, not quite understanding her meaning.
"What do you think?"
Tess took a deep breath, slowly raising her head to look at Holly, her tone trembling a little.
It seemed like fear, perhaps anticipation—just an inexplicable emotion.
"Neither for nor against."
Holly answered.
Still, Holly didn’t quite grasp why Tess was asking this question.
Finally, Tess suddenly said something, looking at Holly earnestly.
"Oh, I’m the same way."
Holly said lightly, not understanding Tess’s meaning at all.
Just friendship liking, she liked Tess, liked Bella Coleman, etc.
Tess clenched her fists, speaking slowly with particular seriousness.
Holly: "???"
Holly was momentarily stunned, then quickly snapped back to reality, looking at Tess in shock.
Damn, this too...
Although Holly neither supported nor opposed such matters, she was still somewhat shocked when it happened around her.
Yet Holly hid her emotions particularly well.
"Did you tell her?"
Holly asked, her tone very composed, but she wasn’t calm inside at all.
"I told her, she..."
Tess lowered her eyes, looking desolate.
Holly’s reaction was very calm, while Diana Curtis’s response was particularly intense by comparison.
Diana Curtis clearly wasn’t keen on discussing it and voiced her own opinions.
Diana Curtis’s attitude said it all.
