Chapter 974: Lowering the Two Spies’ Reputation
Chapter 974: Lowering the Two Spies’ Reputation
I got a text from the guild receptionist that those two were still in the city. Seems like they stayed there while pretend that nothing happened.
Though if they think that they have killed me, there shouldn’t be anything else for them to do there.
By the way, those two seems to have sending messages to the hiding master level earth mage by tapping the ground. Maybe sending a signal saying that their target of investigation has died.
We know because there are several expert level earth mages there. They have been watching those two’s every steps.
Those two also couldn’t just say that they saw me dead to the guild. After all, they took another quest which lead to the opposite location of the orc’s nest.
If they gave the report, then it will be known that they were skipping on their job. Though since one of them have wind element, it’s not strange that they managed to finish their quest before reporting that I’m dead.
Though there’s no reason for those two to tell the guild. After all, I’m not that popular. Well, Robby at least.
From where I have been training all night to make myself look more exhausted, I opened a portal to the closest place to the city away from the master level earth mage’s detection.
Now, I just need to go to the guild.
What should I say about how I escaped? I’ll just say that I did my best in escaping. By using sleeping gas once in a while when the orcs who were chasing me let down their guard.
After walking for a while, I can feel that I’m being watched. I’m already in the territory of the master level earth mage. I need to pretend that I’m injured.
Well, I did got injured after sparing against Julia and Crabbe. But I’m already fine other than some external injuries that are visible. So I just need to act tired and in pain.
Again, I’m still wondering if the kings made this plan to make Robby known by the cult as the Aura user or not. I wonder what they’re really planning?
Whatever. I’ll just do what I was told. As usual, I’m not the smartest in thinking strategy. I’ll let other people do it.
I entered the gate to the city as everyone watched me in horror seeing I was injured. Some people even tried to help me. They’re really good actors. Acting their role perfectly as a kind people of the city.
...Or maybe it’s because my injuries were real. They’re truly afraid that something really happened to me. Though I have told the receptionist that I will get injuries for real for this play. The others should have learned about it as well. But seeing it for real must be shocking for them.
They might be agents. But not all of them were powerful mages. They’re agents who had less talent in magic compared to those who fought alongside me, but they are smart and talented enough in other area. So they are perfect to act as normal civilians.
"There should be a healer in the guild. Let’s take him there," one of them said.
They then brought me to the guild where the two spies were. Acting like they are going to take a mission.
"Robby! Someone, please heal him!" the receptionist shouted.
"Sure. Robby, you owe me now. Make sure to pay instead of using the money to drink," someone said.
The two spies were looking at me in panic. Then they tried to leave the guild.
"Those two over there, they attacked me with a Fireball and escape on their own. Using me as sacrifice as they escaped from the orcs," I said.
Hunters are people who risked their life in a mission. And it’s not rare that we have to team-up with strangers for a mission.
The hunters here acted as if I’m an eyesore. But they never complained about my skill. At least that’s the role we’re playing.
But now they heard that there are hunters who will sacrifice someone else to save their own lives, no one will look at them kindly anymore.
Any normal hunters would have leave the city if such thing happened. But they are spies. I wonder what they will do after this.
The two left in a hurry without even taking a quest. But the leader of this mission to spy on me should be the master level earth mage, right? She’s the strongest after all.
So, unless she told them that their mission is over, they can’t leave the city.
I looked at the hiding master level earth mage with my Divine Vision while making sure that she didn’t notice. Then I could see her move toward where the two guys were retreating. To outside of the city.
Then I looked at the receptionist again who had her hand under the desk. There’s a note saying that there’s no one other than people I can trust here.
So after pretending to be hurt for a while, when the master level earth mage left, I quickly stand up on my own.
"The master level earth mage left. She shouldn’t be able to hear us talking now, so if there’s anything you want to say, make it quick. I don’t know when she will return," I said.
Everyone was shocked at how easily I recover. I wasn’t even tired even though I trained the whole night after all.
After a while, they gave me report about the two spies. Like what they did after they heard that they used me as sacrifice.
Seems like they have some people outside the city who are already investigating where these people came from. Though one of the spies could fly, so it was hard.
But they found out that these people really came from the cult. As for how they found out about it, I don’t really understand.
And apparently, there are other locations where members of the cult started spying on. And most of those location have one thing in common. An air mage who is also a summoner. And there are even some who were also a tamer.
"Seems like they are looking everywhere. So, what about those people?" I asked.
"None of them were with us. And some were just normal civilians. So if possible, we want to make sure that the cult won’t harm them. Though if they act normally, it should be impossible for them to be connected with you, the Aura user," the receptionist said.
"That means even if I act like injured person, they are still suspicious of me. Which means that they will continue spying on me, huh?"
"That’s the most likely case. Though I heard that there are some suspicious people roaming around Cassau. They must be suspicious of Roy. Of you," the receptionist said.
"But Cassau is well-protected. Though I guess that will make the cult be more suspicious of me. So, what should we do?" I asked.
"Under the guise of you had no money to pay him for healing you, you will have to take a quest that will take days. Since there’s an orc’s nest nearby, you will join everyone together in that mission. We will make an emergency summon in two days for all hunters to participate in this mission because the size of the orc’s nest. And it will be in two days since we have to wait for your recovery since you will be the guide," the receptionist said.
"That means I won’t be able to return home for a while again since the master level earth mage will probably be here again. Won’t it be suspicious if Roy is not in Cassau for a long time?"
They are spying on Cassau as well after all. So I should show my face once in a while.
"That’s true. What should we do about it? We can’t just show them that you can open up a portal."
"Then I will take care of it!"
That voice came from my shoulder. It was Victoria.
"I will go back to Cassau and pretend that I’m Roy doing Roy’s things. I’m the one who know him best, so I’m sure it will be fine. I can just transform myself to look more like him. And if I put some makeup, then there won’t be any problem with the skin color," Victoria said.
"That’s a good idea. Let’s go with that plan," the receptionist said.
So I returned Victoria back to Cassau. And so, I will return to Robby’s house alone. At least I can still use telepathy.
Then we discussed more about what we should do next before I noticed the master level earth mage has returned. So I gave the signal to them.
The receptionist then told me to meet the guild master to give the report about my mission. About the orc’s nest.
"Alright. As soon as you’re healed, we will give an emergency quest for every hunters. You will join and be the guide. Refrain from drinking too much," the fake guild master said.
He’s not the leader of this mission. The receptionist girl is. After all, she’s the one whose job will make it easier to meet everyone.
And so, for the next two days, I stayed in Robby’s house. While listening at how happy Victoria was going on dates with the girls while acting as Roy.
Now I’m jealous. I want to go home fast.
