Chapter 939: Even the Researchers Are Master Level Mages
I broke through the thick door and now we’re inside the facility in the valley. It’s large. And deep.
When I was outside using my Divine Vision, it was weird. Because it was as if there’s a blank in the space when I see with my eyes. And it was huge as well. So big that I couldn’t see the end of the blank in the space with my Divine Vision.
"Some of them just got inside! Kill them!"
One of the enemies we’re fighting shouted as he noticed that we entered the facility. But only some of them were concerned at all that we managed to infiltrate the facility.
I can see them with my Divine Vision as if their faces were right in front of me. Other than those who shouted and some others, many of the master level mage enemies were smiling. As if we got caught in a trap.
"Shirley! Sara! We have to be careful! They were smiling as if we got caught in a trap," I said after I jumped and run in the air to get to where Sara and Shirley were.
"Have you contacted Sonia? She should be inside, right?" Sara asked me.
"I have tried it many times even before I joined you guys fighting in the valley. But I got no response at all. Something must have happened to her. Maybe the trap also caught her. If that’s the case, then they might have noticed that we have the help of a ghost all this time collecting information. Whatever the case, if the trap is dangerous enough to capture a ghost, then they must have prepared a lot more traps to capture us," I said.
Even now, I still tapped the place where I stored Sonia’s Soil at. But still, there’s no response from her at all.
The best case scenario would be that she found something huge and unable to came here because of it. The second best is that for some reason, she didn’t notice that I tried calling her so many times.
Then the bad scenario would be that she was captured and being restrained here for some reason. Unable to leave due to something that the cult created.
Then the worse scenario would be that she died. She died without us knowing about it at all. And we ended up carrying some soil wherever we go for no reason at all.
If her death is not the worst case scenario, then what is the worst case scenario?
That would be for Sonia to be tamed by the enemy.
Sonia is with us. There’s no doubt about that. So the cult might even think that she’s either a tamed monster or someone’s familiar.
But what if they noticed that all this time, Sonia was a wild monster with intellect? Then they can try to tame her.
Once she got tamed, she can tell everything that her master needed to know. About everything. Including my identity.
That would be the worst. Because before the phone was invented, Sonia was the one we rely the most with our information. With everything.
So if they managed to tame her or force her to be under summoning contract for some reason, then everything we built up all the way to this point will be useless.
I really hope that’s not the case at all. Let’s just hope that she’s at most just being captured and unable to do anything.
For example, like how she could sleep at the Spirit Mountain. Maybe the cult have something that made even ghost able to fall asleep.
"I can’t see her anywhere nearby. Let’s just go deep and hope that we can find her while investigating everything we found on the way," I said.
"Alright. Roy, see everything that you can with your Divine Vision on the way. We have no time to enter each room one by one. You will run on the floor by yourself while Princess Shirley and I will fly with Princess Shirley’s magic. Roy, if you notice that you can’t use either your mana or Aura, tell us right away. Also tell us if you find any trap," Sara said.
"Hmm... I see that there are a lot of trap on the floor. Like this one over here, is a trap that will make a huge and thick steel door to fall from the ceiling and block us completely. Well, If you’re both flying, then you two don’t need to worry. And if you see me running weirdly, just ignore me," I said.
"Really? There’s no trap on the wall?" Shirley asked.
"All the traps I could find on the wall were only within average human’s height. So as long as you’re flying close to the ceiling, you will be fine," I said.
"Alright. Sara, your command," Shirley said.
"As Roy said, we will fly close to the ceiling. Roy will run at the front and tell us everything and everywhere he could see. We will follow from behind as we keep up with his pace," Sara said.
"...In the end, I do everything by myself. I get it. I’ll do it anyway," I said.
"Roy, the priority is to find Sonia first. Even if we found Sonia, we have to be careful if she has been forced to be tamed or not. Other than her, the second priority is to find any clue about the Evil God’s whereabouts," Sara said.
Seems like Sara understood that Sonia comes first. It’s also scary how much they will know if she leaked everything.
We continued deeper inside the facility. While I kept on talking about which room is what and what’s inside.
If we see anything that could be useful for our investigation, we will enter that room. And sometime, I would go to another room while both Shirley and Sara entered another room. Of course after I told them if there’s any trap inside that room.
Sara would only pick what she deemed as important, while I grab everything I could find.
Then after we got back together, I gave what I found to her and she will select some that we will bring with us.
For Sara, it might be rude since she’s asking her own princess to carry some stuff with her magic. But Shirley didn’t mind it.
As for me, since I have one hand less than the others, I couldn’t bring much. Or I will not have any way to protect myself.
So we continued running deeper into the facility. I’m running down the stairs, Shirley and Sara above me, and several bags flying behind them.
We found those bags in some of the rooms. So I just grab them and got Sara to put everything we needed to bring back inside the bag, and had Shirley to just focus on making the bags flying. This way, Shirley didn’t have to fly each object individually.
Finally, we found some people. They must be the guards and researchers in this place. Maybe even direct subordinates of the Evil God.
But seeing them here, we noticed something.
"If there are people inside, then the people outside won’t just recklessly destroy the building and bury us to the ground with it. Roy, you will be the one dealing with them," Sara said.
"You know, you can just shoot bullets from above and makes it easier for me. In case you don’t know, I have spend so much mana today and I even lost a hand," I said.
"I know that. But in the end, it will be faster if you take care of everyone instead of me. And I don’t want you to focus on me shooting which enemy while you’re fighting. We’ll join the fight if we see that they are stronger than expected," Sara said.
Very cool-headed of her. Letting the guy who just lost his hand do everything because he can.
I guess I can take it positively. Thinking that she completely believes me. That makes me feel better.
The guards tried to block us. But they didn’t dare to cast powerful magic, so I could easily defeat them. Seems like they’re worried about friendly fire. Or maybe they’re afraid to destroy something important.
I guess they’re not like the enemies outside. Those outside were not afraid to die or getting killed by their own allies.
But thanks to that, it was easier for me to kill them. Without having to get Sara or Shirley involved.
Though it seems like they realized that we might bring out something important since we have several floating bags behind us. So when they realized that they won’t be able to win and might die, they changed their target from me to those bags.
Fortunately, Shirley’s control of the wind is the best here as she could just move the bags to avoid the magic.
Then I grabbed one researcher who seems to afraid to die. But when I grabbed his arm, he used his strength to break free.
"Shit. Even the researchers here are master level mages. Seems like it will take a while until we can proceed with the rescue operation," I said.
