Chapter 911: Wasting Time in the Arena

Now what? We will only have the reunion meeting after a few days. But I don’t have anything else to do.

I guess I’ll just play around for a while here. It’s been a while since I returned back to Melk and have nothing to do.

Now... I don’t have anything I feel nostalgic here. I guess I never really care about this city. Especially after I left.

Everything seems familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. And it seems like in this city... no. In every city, there are more hunters than in my past life. I can remember it better since I saw the illusion of my past.

I guess it was because they’re all preparing themselves to fight the cult. So more people chose to be hunters. Or maybe they are the lives that should have lost in my past life due to the losing battle, but they’re still alive now. Whatever the case, it’s great that they’re here.

I see the Arena where the inter-college tournament was before. And there seem to be a tournament with the mayor of this city as the sponsor. I guess I’ll spend the time there watching the fight. Maybe I can recruit someone.

Or maybe not. I’m not the kind of person who can say, ’Hey, you. Join us.’

I’ll just go there and look at everyone to see if there’s anyone who is suspicious to be related to the cult. Because I don’t know what else to do. Should I just be a street performer perhaps?

Well, that might be good as well. But I don’t think it will be as crowded as the Arena. Though it’s not just the participants that make the Arena so loud all the time. It was also the twins who gain some fame as the commentators. They are quite funny it seems.

They might be a challenge for me who is a clown. Though I think they are better at working together then working solo. So I’m still better since I can work with other people or alone.

"Then I’ll go to a bookstore. There are some great authors that can threaten my position as the best author," Victoria said as she left me.

She’s the best author? Maybe it’s for her other novels that didn’t contain what I avoid. I heard she wrote some.

Well, it’s only natural that she’s the best author. After all, in her original world, she’s an avid reader of many fictional and even non-fictional stories. If she just plagiarized those stories, no one would know about it.

When I told Victoria that she’s cheating by plagiarizing her world’s works, she said that it works as another purpose. Because if someone from her world read her stories, they will realized that Victoria came from the same world. And when they approached Victoria about it, Victoria can recruit them to join the alliance.

Though so far, no such person joined us because of that. I guess she’s the only one coming from that world then.

Though if someone does join us because of that, then depend on their knowledge, we can give them a position where they can use their knowledge to our advantage. I hope that at least one of them is a doctor.

But it seems to be near impossible for anyone else from her world to be reincarnated to this world and then join us. Though I do hope that if we find one, that person can be trusted.

In the Arena, I reserved two seats for myself and the snacks I bought. Though it seems like I need more seats.

There’s a kid next to the snack seat looking at my snacks trying to steal some. But I saw that and blocked his hand from grabbing any of it.

"These are mine. Go ask your dad to buy some if you want," I said.

"Dad said that we’re poor so we can’t buy some," the kid said.

I guess they are here to gamble. I looked at the bid the Dad made before looking at the participant whom he’s gambling his money for. It seems like he’s going to lose the bet.

"Tell your dad that if he doesn’t want to lose, pick the other guy instead before the fight starts. Once he won, you can ask him to buy you snacks," I said.

There are two participants who are about to fight. They are still in the tunnel, but I can see them. And one of them feel to be stronger than the others. So unless the match is fixed, that one will win.

The father of the kid look confused, but he just believed me anyway. He changed to place his bet to the other mage. And ten minutes later, he won the bet and shouted.

Now, here’s the real thing. If he buy snacks for his kid, then he’s a good father. If not, then he must be careful walking in the night or a certain handsome guy named Roy will come to him.

Fortunately, he buys some popcorn for his kid. And fortunately, the kid couldn’t even finish a tenth of it. So when the father was not looking, I grabbed the popcorn for myself.

Anyway, the match is not that interesting. At least to me. After all, most of the people here are only here for gambling. around 60% at least.

As for 40%, they are interested in the match. I guess those 40% have potential to grow much stronger. Though some of them are kids who might not have awakened their elements yet.

Several matches happened today. And I watched them all in boredom. None of them are interesting. And I have no intention on gambling my money.

By the way, Candy was here next to me after I watched the matches for a while. On the seat reserved for my snacks. Though my snacks have all been eaten now.

She’s here after talking with her fellow agents who is in this Arena trying to recruit some people with potential.

"I heard that you’re going to a reunion. You don’t even have any friends, so what will you do there other than getting free meal?" Candy asked.

So she even knew about the reunion. And she’s also making fun of me for not having any friends at school. Is this what everyone like to do? Making fun of me?

"I guess I’ll just stay in the corner and eat the whole time," I said.

"The news were spread all over the city. After all, it’s the school year of Angela’s generation. And she became world famous after the tournament. They even let you all to have the reunion at the biggest restaurant in the city," Candy said.

I didn’t know any of that. Though it’s the biggest restaurant in the city. I just hope that the meal over there will be worth it. As for the people, I don’t care at all.

"Oh, here he comes. He’s fighting the next match. I think you have forgotten about him, so I will tell you that he’s your classmate at school," Candy said.

Now that I see him, he looks familiar. Though I never care even to the people who are in the same class as me. I guess we will meet during the reunion.

"...He’s looking over here. I guess he noticed me," I said.

"From what Wendy told me, he was a quiet person in class. He never made any interaction with anyone either. But he has good potential and he even reached C-rank as a hunter already. Seems like after the stampede, he worked so hard to reach this level," Candy said.

C-rank? I guess that’s quite good for normal people. I suppose he’s around advanced level then.

"As for why he’s looking for you, my guess is that he has a crush on either Kayla or Angela. Or that he’s jealous because I’m sitting next to you," Candy said.

Even at school, I only hang around with Kayla and Angela.

It was well-known at that time that Kayla was my girlfriend. So I guess he’s jealous of me because of Kayla. Or maybe because even though Angela was not my girlfriend at the time, Angela only hang around with me. No wonder he’s glaring at me now.

"Maybe he wanted to be popular. It’s hard to tell from a quiet person. Though is he still quiet now?" I asked.

"He often went to a pub being surrounded by girls. So I don’t think that’s the case," Candy said.

So he became a playboy. If he’s surrounded by girls already, then don’t go picking a fight against me.

We watched his match while Candy told me about everything she knows about him.

He won the match in just two minutes using only his fire element. And as expected, he’s an advanced level fire mage. He might be able to reach expert level or even master level in the future.

Though if we recruit him, then I will have to be the one to test him to humble him. He needs to know his place so he won’t aim for my girls.

Even now that the match is over, he’s glaring at me. So I kissed Candy while he’s staring and I can see vein bulging on his forehead. I guess the reunion will be interesting.
