Chapter 910: The Former King’s Research Location

Chapter 910: The Former King’s Research Location

"...Shit. There might be a lot of our siblings out there that we don’t even know of," Albert said after listening to the old man, the former Village Chief of my home village, about the truth of my birth.

I was born because the former King found out about the existence of a dangerous organization. Which we assumed to be the cult that we’re fighting currently. And the former King thought that if there are more people with the ability to detect lies to help Albert, we can figure out more about that organization.

But the thing is, what if they know that they are the former King’s children, but they refused to help Albert? Or if they don’t even know about it?

Like me who was never once informed about the truth of my birth until now. Though maybe since I didn’t gain the ability to detect lie, there’s no need for me to be informed as I can just live my life however I want.

"Anyway, it’s important to keep the fact that Albert can detect lies to ourselves. We only told the people we can trust. So never ever speak of this to anyone," I said to not only the former Village Chief, but also to his son.

Albert and I looked at the guard and he knelt down in an instant.

"I will keep this as secret at the cost of my life!" he said.

"That’s good enough. Anyway, I heard that you’re being recommended to join the army. If you want to, you can join the army right away. We have learned a lot of method that can make mages easily improve their level. So even if you’re this old, you can still have the chance to reach expert level. Or maybe even master level," Albert said to the guard.

"Master level mage? Is that true?" the guard asked.

"Well, Roy here is a master level summoner. And you should know that my sister has reached master level as well. So yes, if you have the talent, you can reach that level soon. If you have only a bit of talent, you will reach that level very late in your life. If you don’t even have the talent, you might not be able to reach master level in your life at all. But expert level will still be doable," Albert said.

Just like my air element. It’s something that the Spirit King gave me before I got returned back to the past. Though I knew nothing of it because he was talking directly to my brain that was forcefully kept functioning.

I have air element, and it has reached expert level. But I might not be able to reach master level because I don’t have any talent in it. After all, I didn’t even have this element in my past life.

"So you’re a master level summoner, huh? You must have kill a lot then. Does it include people?" the former Village Chief asked.

"Old man, I had the clone of my familiar inside your body. If I want to, I can control you," I said.

"...That does sound scary," he said.

This is also one other thing that I want to experiment. Whether I can manipulate people’s movement if they have been infected by Blobbies.

"Roy, good thing that you’re not the smartest man. Because the smarter people would have thought of that already. And since you’re a very ordinary guy, you might turn evil if you do," Victoria said to me in whisper.

I see. I don’t know if she’s right or not. But I know that I shouldn’t try this experiment by myself. Let’s ask some wiser people to help me with this experiment.

As for the experimental subjects, we have a lot of captured cult members whom we don’t know what to do with them. Executing them is a choice, but I don’t know if Albert has ordered them to be executed or not.

"Anyway, I don’t think that the former King would have any more children knowing how scary his wife would be. And it would be too difficult to handle if he has too many. So I don’t think that you have any other siblings, Your Majesty," the old man said.

"...Fine. I know you’re not lying, but it’s best to not believe you yet. If the cult even have one person who can detect lies, we would be at disadvantages because they might be able to find our agents. For now, what about that organization? Is that organization the cult we’re fighting or not?" Albert asked the old man.

"That is likely to be the case. But I’m not sure yet," the old man said.

"Is there anything that my father let you keep since you’’re one of his most trusted friend?" Albert asked.

"He told me that he kept all his research about that organization in the former Queen’s old house. It should be somewhere near the border to Consenza. You might find something there," the old man said.

"Can you really tell us such a big secret? Is it because I’m the King?" Albert asked.

"Well, it’s actually something that I need to tell Roy in the future if he ever showed that he can detect lies. It’s a promise I made with your father. But unfortunately, Roy couldn’t detect lies. Though I don’t know why, you two brothers get together now. So I think it’s fine to tell you. As for my son, you can ask him to never tell this secret," the old man said.

That’s just weird. Why would the former king tell such secret to a Village Chief? Is it just because his son was born there? Maybe this Chief can be trusted.

"So you don’t know anything else about the organization? Do you have something else that my father left behind?" Albert asked.

"That’s everything. He just told me to tell Roy about the location of his research. Though not the exact location. So you will need to look for it yourself. Maybe he thought that if Roy has that ability to detect lie, and he was told that he’s the former King’s son, Roy can just find a way to meet Your Majesty and say that he’s His Majesty’s brother and is going to help him. It might sound weird, but if both of you have the ability to detect lies, then it would work," the old man said.

Fortunately, our first meeting was much better than that.

What kind of idiot would come to meet the king and say that he’s the King’s brother?

"I waited to see if Roy could ever gained that ability. But he didn’t. Then I heard of the former King death, so I thought of telling Roy the truth if he got powerful elements. But it’s just summoning element and air element. And even his familiar was a Black Slime. Even then, I waited until he became stronger. But he just left the village and never returned," the old man said.

"Though he is now our strongest force that we have against the cult. He is much stronger than several master level mages combined. It didn’t go the way that you or my father expected, but Roy is the most important member in our alliance. Whether he’s my brother or not," Albert said.

"I see. It’s good that you’re doing so well. I think that’s everything that I know. I hope that you can defeat that organization and bring peace to the kingdom," the old man said.

"If that’s all, then as a gift, I will let the Black Slime’s clones stay in your body until midnight today. You can do whatever you want until midnight today. After that you will be back to your dying self. Just write a will or something," I said.

"Thank you. I’ll do just that," the old man said.

I prepared to leave the hospital room when Albert was talking with the former Village Chief’s son.

"You can join the army anytime you want. Though I think it’s best to join after your father meets his end. Because you will be busy and won’t have the time to take care of him. I’ll also tell the captain that you don’t have to work as a guard during the time your father is hospitalized," Albert said.

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

Turns out, this meeting bear some fruits. We might be able to find out more about the cult from the research that the former King done in the past.

I don’t know how much he found out, but I hope that he found a lot of things.

"So, do you know where your mother’s old house was?" I asked Albert.

"Not at all. We never went there, and there’s no document about it at all. I guess the existence of that house was kept secret. I will send some people to look for it. What will you do?" Albert asked.

"I’m going to a school reunion with Kayla, Angela, and Wendy. So I don’t think I will help you until it’s over," I said.

"You? Reunion? You don’t even have any friends! What will you do there? Sitting at the corner all by yourself?" Albert asked. He wanted to make fun of me.

"Yes. I would never refuse free meal," I said confidently.

"...It’s a reunion meeting. Not a free meal meeting. Well, I’ll hear about the reunion from Victoria then. Good luck!" Albert said before he enters the portal I opened for him.

Good luck with what? I am someone who can stand being in awkward silence. I don’t need luck.

Just... being there in awkwardness.
