Chapter 19: Advise from the Wise

Kit:

Kit waited after classes were over so he could catch up to the one person who he knew would be able to help him: Prem.

Not only was Prem’s love interest a boy, but he had been with Nong Wayo for quite some time now, even though they weren’t official, nor did they hav anything physical about their relationship. It was just pure love and adoration between the two of them.

“Prem.” Kit called out as he saw the younger man head towards the exit of the campus. “Can I talk to you for a bit?”

Kit still had one class left in the afternoon, but he had decided to skip it and asked his friends to help him with the roll call, because this matter had seemed much more urgent to him.

“Kit?” Prem turned to his friend, halfway to the campus gates. “Yes, sure. Don’t you have classes though?”

“I do…I just…need to talk to you real quick.” Kit hesitated a bit as he caught up to his friend.

“It’s okay. We have time.” Prem gave him a smile. “Let’s grab something to eat shall we? NongWayo has swimming practice today so he won’t be picking me up.”

Kit nodded in agreement and both of them headed to the nearest faculty canteen to eat a late lunch. Prem chose rice with stir fried pork with basil and a sunny side egg, while Kit took the cheaper option and went for rice with an omelet. After their grabbing their food and a glass of soda each, they went over to a scheduled spot to eat in peace so that no one would disrupt their conversation.

“It must be really nice to have a rich boyfriend,” Kit joked. “You get free rides almost every day.”

Prem only smiled and shook his head. “Sometimes…but I don’t want Wayo to go out of his way for me either. He had to drive come from his school every day to pick me up and even though he insists that he isn’t tired, I can see it in his eyes. He comes from an influential family and is the only heir, that’s why his parents always send a guard and chauffer with him to take care of him. But I think he is frustrated as well.”

Kit sometimes wondered how ‘influential’ Wayo’s family really was, especially now that he had known P’Kim and found out about some of his illegal businesses. But he also had his doubts that Wayo came from a mafia background. The boy was too gentle…too sweet. He was also far too trusting for his own good.

“So…how did the two of you start off?” Kit asked, making Prem frown as he chewed his food.

“I thought everyone knew this story?” He raised his eyebrows.

“We do…I was just…curious.” Kit shrugged. “How did you find out? You know…that you liked men?”

“Ah?” Prem gave him an almost knowing smile, but didn’t ask about it just yet. “That’s what you wanted to ask me all along?”

“Not really.” Kit told him truthfully. “I want to know a lot more…I just wanted to start the conversation from somewhere. So why not start from the very beginning?”

Prem laughed at his explanation but decided to humor him anyway.

“Before I start the story, I should tell you this…I’m bisexual. So I can like whoever I want to, both men and women. Take that into consideration as well, before you think being attracted to men might outright make you gay.”

Kit’s cheeks colored at having being confronted so openly, but he only nodded and let Prem continue on with his story.

“Nong Wayo and I started off strictly as Phi-Nong(brothers). We met when I was ten and he was eight years old. They had just moved into the humongous mansion in our neighborhood and he was this lonely kid that everyone was scared to befriend because he always had guards around. To be honest, even I was weary of him. If it weren’t for my brother…I don’t think I would have ever spoken to him in the first place.”

“Wait…you have a Phi?” Kit blinked in confusion, because as far as he knew, Prem was an only child as well.

“Cousin.” Prem corrected immediately. “My father has a twin sister. Phi Thana is my aunt’s son and eight months older than me.”

“Oh?” Kit found it interesting. “So you first talked to Nong Wayo because of Phi Thana?”

“Yes.” Prem nodded, eating more of his rice. “Wayo was friendlier with Phi Thana when we were little, but we became closer when Phileft with his mom and dad and moved to another province. Since then, we’ve been inseparable. There was nothing horny about our relationship when we were younger, in case you’re wondering. I was like his mentor, his older brother…until one day he confessed to liking me. At first I wasn’t prepared for it…but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Wayo had always been such a big part of my life that I couldn’t imagine my life without him.”

“Have you kissed him yet?” Kit asked instinctively, before smiling sheepishly as Prem gave him a glare.

“Nosey.”

“Have you done ‘it’ yet?” Since Kit was digging his grave…why not go all the way?

“Kit!” Prem’s eyes were wide as saucers as he looked around to see if anyone had overheard their conversation. Thankfully, there weren’t many people in the cafeteria at that moment and no one was sitting close enough to eavesdrop on their conversation.

“Why do you want to know?” Prem asked him awkwardly. “They’re personal questions.”

“I know.” Kit swallowed. “How about this? If you tell me truthfully…I’ll tell you my secret as well. I’m…at odds with someone I like…and I needed help from someone who would understand me.”

“As in someone who wasn’t straight?” Prem raised his eyebrows, to which, Kit could only nod in agreement. Because for all they knew, Earth and Ben might as well be straight. They had never really discussed their sexual preferences so openly with others before.

“Chai (yes).” Kit nodded.

“Fine. Let’s do that.” Prem shrugged. “But I’m not going into details and we don’t use this to tease each other later, deal? This is private. Let’s keep it that way.”

“You don’t need to remind me, Nong Prem.” Kit dragged out Prem’s name, not just to tease him, but also remind him that he was younger than Kit and some things were a given.

“Okay then…yes, I have kissed Nong Wayo…and that’s just as far as we went.” Prem swallowed, looking down at his plate. “But it hadn't been intentional…it had just happened…”

Kit understood the implication that Prem thought himself guilty of getting carried away by his emotions, especially since Wayo was only seventeen and Prem was nineteen. He probably felt responsible for it later…not being able to be more in control of his emotions.

“Did Nong participate willingly?” Kit asked, hoping he wasn’t crossing any lines.

“Yes.” Prem nodded. “But it doesn’t make the situation any better. I’m older…I should’ve had more control.”

“You’re nineteen.” Kit reminded him. “And you realize your mistake. Isn’t that all that matters?”

Prem stayed silent for a few seconds before nodding his head. “I’ve made sure to keep some distance between us since. I’ll never let it happen until he turns eighteen.”

“Good.” Kit smiled. “You’re getting wiser.”

“And you’re giving me advise when you were the one who was seeking answers.” Prem laughed. “So? I held up my end of the deal. It’s your turn now.”

Kit sighed, knowing he could no longer avoid the subject. “I had a one-night stand with someone I barely knew…but he turned out to be my sister’s best friend. And now…he wants to have a no-strings relationship with me.”

When Kit didn’t immediately get an answer…he looked up at Prem’s face…only to find not just Prem…but Earth and Ben standing right behind him, all with their eyes wide and mouths hanging open in astonishment.
