Chapter 783 Fire

After dinner at the Lin family’s home and catching up on current matters, Ling Feng and Lin Xue returned to campus.

Knowing that both had a mission to attend to, one that involved secrets, Lin Huaqiang did not ask them to stay longer, but instead had a driver take them back.

Back in their room, as Lin Xue was washing up, she asked, "How much longer do we have to stay here?"

"We only start the cultivation tomorrow, and if things don’t go well, it might take a month!" Ling Feng said with a wry smile.

"That long?" Lin Xue was astonished.

"The growth speed of ordinary plants is what it is. Who knows what kind of properties these seeds from three thousand years ago have, or if they grow quickly?"

"True, but can you handle being here so long? Zhou Yi will go crazy when she finds out, won’t she?" Lin Xue asked.

"Uh, the crazier she is, the better. Maybe she’ll make a fuss with Director Han, and perhaps then both of us can go back and someone else will take over our watch," Ling Feng said, laughing.

Lin Xue poked her head out of the bathroom to look at him: "You want to go back early, don’t you?"

"Don’t you?" Ling Feng countered.

"Actually, it’s all the same to me. The police station has added a few more officers, so I don’t have much to do now," Lin Xue said.

Ling Feng laughed and walked over to the bathroom door: "Then I guess you don’t want to go back because you can be alone with me here, without anyone else competing for your attention!"

"Go away!"

Lin Xue gave him a look: "Wishful thinking, you’re sleeping on the couch tonight!"

"Uh..."

Ling Feng thought to himself that this was awkward.

Just as they were joking around, the sound of the telephone ringing suddenly broke out.

Seeing that it was Tang Hong’s number, Ling Feng quickly answered: "What’s wrong?"

"Come to the laboratory building, something has happened!"

"Right away!"

After Ling Feng responded, he turned to look at Lin Xue, who was still washing up: "I’m heading to the lab building. You come over later on."

"I’ll go right away too!"

Lin Xue sensed the seriousness of the issue and quickly washed her face.

Ling Feng had already left the room. Now, at ten o’clock at night, there were not many students around on campus, and he couldn’t care less about that, instantly going at full speed and turning into a black shadow that disappeared in a flash!

Two minutes later, he was at the lab building, where the alarm bell sounded urgently and some of the school’s security guards were rushing over.

Ling Feng sped into the building and reached the laboratory door fast.

He discovered that the door had been violently forced open, and inside was a mess, with a red light flashing as if something had caught fire.

The fire was fierce, seemingly out of control; it wouldn’t be long before the lab would burn down to the ground!

Amidst the thick smoke, a figure was moving, coughing violently, and so Ling Feng called out for Tang Hong and heard her reply.

Ling Feng hurried to her: "It’s on fire, why haven’t you left? What are you doing?"

"The documents, there are so many documents. They can’t be destroyed!"

Despite the thick smoke making her eyes bloodshot, Tang Hong shouted loudly.

Ling Feng was speechless. He looked up at the sprinkler system on the ceiling and thought, why isn’t it spraying water?

"Forget the documents, let’s get out of here!"

As soon as Ling Feng spoke, he picked up Tang Hong to leave.

"Let go of me, my dad is still inside!" Tang Hong yelled, struggling fiercely.

"What?"

Upon hearing this, Ling Feng paused for a moment, then quickly let go of her: "Why hasn’t Professor Tang come out yet?"

"I don’t know, he doesn’t answer when I call him, and the fire is too fierce for me to rush in!" Tang Hong said.

Without a second thought, Ling Feng charged in.

The fire ahead was indeed fierce, with flames reaching the ceiling.

In front of the blaze, Ling Feng felt a surge of resolve and immediately took out the Five Elements Bead from his ring!

I haven’t used this thing yet, now’s the perfect time to test out its effects!

"Splash!"

As Ling Feng shouted, a tremendous water curtain seemed to descend from the sky, instantly filling the entire laboratory!

The floor was suddenly covered with twenty centimeters of water, and the temperature dropped sharply!

Ling Feng and Tang Hong were drenched, both looking utterly baffled!

Fortunately, the fire was extinguished in an instant, and the air was filled with the smell of scorching.

Without time to think further, Ling Feng quickly pocketed the Five Elements Bead and charged towards Professor Tang’s office, then kicked the door open.

He saw the old man lying face down on the desk, with a large gash on his head that was still bleeding!

Seeing this, Ling Feng’s eyes widened and he hurried forward to check.

Thankfully, the man wasn’t dead, just injured and unconscious.

So he quickly stopped Professor Tang’s bleeding and then picked him up.

Outside, the school’s security staff with fire extinguishers had arrived, but they were no longer needed!

Seeing Ling Feng carrying Professor Tang out, someone shouted, "Call an ambulance!"

"No need, I can handle it!"

Ling Feng replied, carrying Professor Tang out of the laboratory building and towards the parked seven-seater car, immediately pulling open the door and getting in.

"How’s my father?"

Tang Hong chased after the car, her face filled with anxiety, and asked.

"Don’t worry, he’s hurt, but I can heal him!"

Ling Feng said, quickly administering a Medicinal Pill to the elder.

He then stimulated his Spiritual Power to promote the pill’s efficacy, swiftly aiding absorption, and only when he felt the elder’s breathing stabilize did Ling Feng turn to ask, "What happened?"

"I heard the alarm and rushed over, only to find someone had broken into the lab, tossed it into complete disarray, and even started a fire. I didn’t think much of it and focused on rescuing the materials," Tang Hong said with a lingering fear.

Ling Feng narrowed his eyes, considering the seeds had only arrived the day before, and now this had happened. Could it be a leak of information?

After a thought, he quickly asked, "Don’t worry about the professor, go check if the surveillance records are still there!"

"Oh, okay!"

Tang Hong was somewhat dazed and nodded without moving.

Just then, someone staggered over, asking in astonishment, "Tang Hong, what, what are you doing here?"

They turned to see the newcomer was Liu Tao.

He seemed as though he’d drunk a lot, with unsteady steps and a dazed look in his eyes.

Seeing him like this, Tang Hong snapped, "Where have you been? There’s been an incident in the lab!"

"Eh?"

Liu Tao looked stunned, and only then noticed the security and many others from the school coming and going, so he asked in surprise, "What, what happened?"

"Don’t know!"

Tang Hong glared at him and turned to go back inside the building.

"Is the professor also here? Has he fallen asleep?" Liu Tao asked, bleary-eyed, after looking at Professor Tang.

Ling Feng looked at him: "So late and you went out to drink by yourself?"

"No, with my classmate, and his boss, Mr. Kondo!" Liu Tao said with a grin.

"Kondo? A Dongying person?" Ling Feng asked.

"Yeah, my classmate Guo Kai works for a foreign-funded company!" Liu Tao explained.

Looking truly intoxicated and nearly slurring his words, Ling Feng frowned and pressed two acupoints on Liu Tao.

Liu Tao passed out immediately and collapsed beside the car.

Ling Feng loaded him into the car, thinking that when he wakes up, he’ll need to enquire closely—this incident may well have something to do with that Dongying man!
