After they had parted ways, Tang Hong strolled along and said, "Reception Hall is one of our school’s guesthouses, and it’s the most high-end accommodation we have."

"So that’s how it is, thank you very much for your generous hospitality, Professor Tang," Ling Feng said with a smile.

They hadn’t walked much farther when the three of them arrived at the entrance of a two-story building by the lake.

It wasn’t a standalone building, but a long row of houses built along the lakeside, with each room’s windows facing the lake, offering rather nice views.

After entering, Tang Hong went to the front desk to get the room card then came back with a somewhat odd expression and handed it to Ling Feng, "I won’t disturb you by going up, you two should go upstairs and rest."

Seeing that there was only one room card, Ling Feng chuckled, "Alright, Miss Tang, take care, see you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow."

As Tang Hong turned around to leave, Ling Feng turned back to Lin Xue with a smile, "She thought we were just colleagues, now she knows what our relationship really is."

"What’s so strange about that?" Lin Xue remarked and then proceeded upstairs.

Following her, Ling Feng said with a laugh, "Perhaps she feels that I’m not worthy of you, that’s why she was surprised, right?"

"Is that so?"

Lin Xue glanced back at him with a peculiar expression.

Ling Feng chuckled, "It must be, right? You’re so beautiful, indeed I’m not worthy of you!"

"Hmph, as long as you know!"

Lin Xue flipped her hair proudly and hastily went up the stairs.

But though she said that, after getting back to the room and freshening up, she still hurriedly snuggled into Ling Feng’s bed!

The next morning, as the morning sunlight streamed into the room, the two sleeping in each other’s arms awoke, Lin Xue glanced at the time, "It’s getting late, let’s hurry up and have some breakfast. The professor will start the new round of research at eight o’clock!"

"Okay."

Ling Feng nodded, planted a kiss on her smooth forehead, and then they both got out of bed.

After freshening up and heading out, the staff informed them that there was a restaurant included in the room charge, so Ling Feng and Lin Xue went there together.

Upon entering, they saw that quite a few people were already eating, both old and young, apparently here for business or university-related work.

The duo didn’t look around aimlessly but went straight to the ordering area, picked some food, and then sat down.

While eating and chatting quietly, Ling Feng noticed that a gaze had been fixed on their table the whole time, so he slightly furrowed his brow.

Lin Xue, noticing his expression, asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Someone has been watching us, has been for five minutes now!" Ling Feng said.

"Where?" Lin Xue hadn’t noticed, so she quickly asked.

"Sixty degrees to my left."

Knowing Lin Xue wouldn’t act rashly, Ling Feng told her the direction.

Therefore, Lin Xue nodded, stood up and said, "I’m going to get some pickles."

After saying that, she headed towards the ordering area.

As she moved, Ling Feng noticed that the person who had been watching them also moved, following Lin Xue!

Frowning, Ling Feng turned to look at the person, now seeing clearly. It was a young man in his twenties, tall and slender, wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses.

Just as Lin Xue had gotten a plate of pickles and was about to return to their table, the man stopped her, "Xue, what a coincidence!"

"Hmm?"

Lin Xue paused, looked up at him for a moment, and then her face showed surprise, "Guo Kai?"

"Yeah, it’s me!"

Guo Kai nodded with a smile, and then asked, "I really didn’t expect to run into you here. What are you doing here?"

"I’m here on a business trip. How about you?" Lin Xue asked.

"That’s quite a coincidence, I am too!" Guo Kai laughed.

He then paused in surprise, "I heard from our classmates that you became a police officer. How come you are on a business trip here?"

"Police have to go on business trips too!"

Lin Xue smiled and then said, "I can’t talk now, I have to go to work after dinner. Bye."

As she was about to leave, Guo Kai quickly stepped in front of her, "We’ve been out of touch for several years, and it’s not easy to have met you again. How about giving me your phone number?"

"Okay."

Lin Xue smiled, recited her phone number, and finally managed to get away, returning to Ling Feng’s side.

"What’s going on? An old classmate?" Ling Feng asked with a grin.

"Yes, a high school classmate. I lost contact with him after I went to the police academy. I didn’t expect to bump into him here!" Lin Xue explained.

Ling Feng made a thoughtful noise and then asked, "He wasn’t secretly in love with you all this time, was he?"

"What? Are you jealous?" Lin Xue glanced up at him.

"Who said that, I’m just asking!" Ling Feng rolled his eyes.

The more he denied it, the more obvious his disguise became. Lin Xue chuckled, poked Ling Feng’s forehead, and said, "You’re just being stubborn!"

This affectionate gesture was witnessed by Guo Kai from a distance, and he was immediately taken aback!

He had thought that Ling Feng was just Lin Xue’s colleague, but now it seemed that they were actually a couple!

Seeing this scene, Guo Kai felt an indescribable taste of loss in his heart, along with a sense of unfairness and a strong feeling of unwillingness.

But Ling Feng and Lin Xue had already finished their breakfast and soon got up and left. He could only watch their backs disappear, powerless to follow.

"Mr. Kondo is mistaken; I was just reminiscing about our school days. I had no other intentions!" Guo Kai said with a bitter smile.

It turned out that the fluent Mandarin-speaking man was not from Huaxia, but a man from Dongying.

"Alright, stop thinking about all this unnecessary stuff, we have a lot of work to do today!" Kondo said, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

Guo Kai nodded and put down the food he was holding.

Ling Feng had no objections; after all, the seed inspection work was led by Professor Tang, and he was just there to assist. He took Lin Xue’s hand and followed them into the vehicle.

After leaving the campus, the car drove for nearly an hour before they arrived at the destination.

On the way, Professor Tang explained that while the school did have gene sequencing equipment, it was not the most advanced.

The pharmaceutical factory they were visiting now was equipped with the world’s most advanced instruments which could determine genetic blueprints in an incredibly short time.

Regarding safety, Professor Tang also assured Ling Feng that there would be no issues whatsoever.
