Chapter 1108: Rest Assured!
Chapter 1108: Rest Assured!
Stepping forward, the two walked through the narrow mountain pass, one in front and one behind.
The terrain here was like the mouth of a bottle gourd—narrow on the outside, but spacious on the inside.
Facing the ring-shaped valley ahead, Ling Feng activated his Divine Sense.
Within the thousand-meter range ahead, everything was mapped into his mind.
Surprisingly, he didn’t detect any people or animals!
The ruins of Hu Family Village were already in sight. The houses had long since collapsed, and the walls made of packed earth had weathered into mounds over time. Unless someone looked carefully, no one would imagine that this dense area of weeds and shrubs had once been a village.
Ling Feng turned to glance at Hehua. "Don’t be nervous. There’s no one here, nor are there any wild animals. Relax!"
"Oh."
Hearing this, Hehua breathed a sigh of relief and stepped forward to catch up with Ling Feng.
Steep cliffs surrounded them on all sides, enveloping the location of Hu Family Village and forming a sealed circular valley.
Although she had visited here as a child, Hehua suddenly felt a bit anxious this time, and instinctively grabbed Ling Feng’s sleeve.
Ling Feng was startled and turned to look at her. "What’s wrong?"
"No, nothing, just feeling a bit nervous..."
Hehua spoke hesitantly.
Seeing Ling Feng looking at her helplessly, she quickly explained, "It’s not that I’m timid, but I feel like this place is different from when I came here before!"
"Really? How is it different?" Ling Feng asked.
"It’s just... a feeling. When I came here as a child, I thought this place was quite interesting. I couldn’t believe people chose such a remote place to live. But now, I just find it eerie!" Hehua said.
Ling Feng let out an "Oh" and then said, "Maybe it’s because back then, you were an innocent and carefree child, but now you’ve grown up?"
"That could be it!"
Hehua nodded, but her hand remained firmly clutching Ling Feng’s sleeve.
They continued walking forward, but because of Hehua’s nervousness, Ling Feng slowed his pace and didn’t rush into the ruins of Hu Family Village.
If anything stood out about this place, it was the silence!
The silence was so profound that it made one instinctively feel uneasy.
Ling Feng found it strange. In such a remote, deep mountain, it was normal not to encounter people, but the absence of small animals felt peculiar!
Still, to avoid making Hehua more nervous, he didn’t say anything. He stepped forward to the village entrance, where vines covered a pile of rubble—an evident remnant of collapsed houses.
Ling Feng stopped and checked the time, then turned to Hehua and said, "Let’s rest for a bit. Are you thirsty or hungry?"
"I’m fine." Hehua shook her head but thought to herself—even if she was thirsty or hungry, what could she do? They hadn’t brought anything!
Noticing the meaning in her eyes, Ling Feng chuckled, flipped his palm, and suddenly produced a bottle of sports drink. "Here, have this. It’ll replenish your energy!"
"Huh?"
Hehua was taken aback and then asked in astonishment, "Where did you get that?"
"I’m a magician!"
Ling Feng chuckled mischievously and spoke with an air of mystery.
Hehua’s big eyes were filled with wonder, staring at him in a daze. "Really? How did you do that?"
"It’s magic, of course. It’s a highly skilled technique, and I can’t reveal it—wouldn’t that spoil the trick?"
Ling Feng smiled, handing the drink to her, and then said, "Sit here for a while. I’ll go check out the village. I’ll be back soon!"
"Alright."
A warmth bloomed in Hehua’s chest, and she nodded lightly.
To prevent anything unexpected, Ling Feng once again released his Divine Sense before entering the village.
The main reason was so that if anything happened on Hehua’s side, he would detect it instantly.
Broken walls and ruins were now rare sights—the majority consisted of raised mounds or piles of stones. Using his Divine Sense, Ling Feng had already gained a general understanding of the layout of Hu Family Village. He thought to himself, "It might be a bit challenging to locate Hu Tiesheng’s ancestral home."
His Divine Sense couldn’t penetrate too far underground, so if something were buried below, it would require luck to uncover it.
Ling Feng walked to the center of the village where he found a segment of a broken stele.
The missing section was nowhere to be found, leaving only the part fixed into the ground. Ling Feng reached out to wipe off the dust on its surface, revealing densely packed inscriptions.
After reading a few lines, he realized the stele was dedicated to praising Hu Tiesheng. It chronicled his valor in battle and heroic deeds.
Judging by its appearance, the stele hadn’t been touched in decades.
Ling Feng stood there, his mind puzzled. If Hu Tiesheng led the Xinglong Gang into the mountains, wouldn’t he choose his ancestral home as their base?
This place actually seemed pretty decent.
Just as he was mulling over this, a sudden cry came from the village entrance. Ling Feng’s heart skipped a beat. Through his Divine Sense, he saw Hehua falling to the ground and immediately rushed over.
Back at her side, Ling Feng asked hurriedly, "What happened?"
"No, nothing, just tripped accidentally," Hehua said.
Ling Feng was speechless. "Didn’t I tell you to wait for me? Why didn’t you listen!"
"I got bored sitting there and wanted to check things out. I didn’t expect to stumble," Hehua said awkwardly, her face flushing with embarrassment.
"Sit down for a moment. Are you hurt?" Ling Feng asked as he supported her.
Hehua nodded and sat on a large rock. Then she said, "I think I twisted my ankle..."
Her heart was filled with guilt. She felt like she hadn’t been any help and instead added to Ling Feng’s troubles. If she’d known, she wouldn’t have come along!
When Ling Feng heard that her ankle was sprained, he said, "Let me check it out. It shouldn’t be serious—probably just a minor sprain."
After speaking, he squatted and asked, "Which foot?"
"...."
Hehua hesitated for a moment, her heart suddenly racing!
A girl’s foot wasn’t something to be casually touched by a man...
But the pain in her ankle forced her to extend her right foot. "This one."
Ling Feng acknowledged with an "Oh," grabbed hold of her foot, and pushed her pant leg upward.
The edge of a white cotton sock appeared, and as her shoe covered the ankle, Ling Feng didn’t ask for her permission—he simply took off her shoe!
Hehua let out a soft gasp, her embarrassment deepening.
Ling Feng glanced up at her. "What are you nervous about? Your feet don’t stink!"
"..."
Hehua didn’t know what to say—she was conservative in her thinking, and her concern wasn’t about whether her feet smelled but about the idea of Ling Feng touching them. Her heart was already pounding wildly.
Ling Feng didn’t think much of it; he simply found the small foot, clad in its white sock, rather cute.
He then grasped Hehua’s foot and gently massaged her ankle.
The moment he did this, Hehua’s body trembled, her face instantly flushing crimson—red enough to drip like spilled ink.
"It’s nothing serious. A little massage will fix it. Huh, why is your face so red?" Ling Feng looked up to ask.
