Chapter 1107: Hu Family Village
Chapter 1107: Hu Family Village
Ling Feng had just left, and Hehua, who had been watching him all along in the crowd, also stepped away.
After entering the mountains, Ling Feng didn’t immediately use his speed. He walked slowly for a while, planning to move quickly once he reached the cliff by the tea tree.
But after only a few hundred meters, he felt a sudden sense of alertness, as if someone was following closely behind him!
With a sweep of his Divine Sense, Ling Feng couldn’t help but feel speechless.
The one tailing him turned out to be Hehua!
This girl was trailing him from about 100 meters behind.
Ling Feng let out a wry smile, thinking to himself, what is she up to? Why is she following me?
After some thought, he stopped in his tracks and ducked into the bushes by the path.
A few moments later, an anxious Hehua arrived hurriedly.
She was now panting slightly, seemingly flustered because she couldn’t see Ling Feng anywhere and had no idea where he had gone!
"I’ll just chase him for a little longer. If I still can’t find him, I’ll have to head back home!"
With this thought in mind, she quickly picked up her pace and continued forward.
Watching her retreating figure, Ling Feng emerged from the bushes, his expression a mix of exasperation and amusement.
Seeing how hurried and clueless she appeared, Ling Feng thought to himself that she had absolutely no sense of caution. If he were a bad guy hiding in the bush, this girl would surely be in trouble!
As Hehua walked farther away, Ling Feng quickly called out, "Stop looking, I’m over here!"
"Ah?"
Hehua froze and turned to see Ling Feng, completely surprised to find him right behind her!
Ling Feng quickly walked over and asked curiously, "Why are you following me?"
"I guessed that you might be heading to collect tea leaves, so I thought I’d come along to see if I could help!" Hehua lowered her head as she spoke.
"So that’s what it is, huh?"
Ling Feng chuckled, "I’m not going to pick tea leaves; I have other things to do. You should head back."
"Then where are you going?" Hehua asked curiously.
"I’m going to the old site of Hu Family Village. It’s quite far!" Ling Feng said with a smile, without hiding his intention.
"To that place?"
Hehua was taken aback and puzzled. She asked, "Why? It’s so far away! It’s almost noon now; will you be able to return tonight?"
"There’s no need to worry about that. If I can’t make it back, I’ll just stay in the mountains for the night. You should head home!" Ling Feng said with a smile.
Ling Feng thought he could persuade her to leave, but to his surprise, Hehua shook her head, "No way. You’re an outsider, unfamiliar with the terrain here. I should be the one to guide you!"
"There’s no need for that; I’ve got a map. I’ll follow the route on it, but thanks for your kind offer!" Ling Feng said.
Hehua rolled her eyes, "A map? Can you trust it? Maps don’t tell you which paths are hard to traverse, where there’s quicksand, or where there are springs!"
"Uh..."
Ling Feng was stumped by her questions and then shook his head slightly, "That’s true, they don’t!"
"Exactly! So, let’s go. I’ll guide you into the mountains. You’re our village’s benefactor; I can’t let you get into any danger!" Hehua said firmly.
"Uh, but if you come with me into the mountains, do Uncle He and the others know? Won’t they worry?" Ling Feng asked.
"I already informed them when I left, so there’s no need to worry!" Hehua said confidently.
"Alright then!"
Ling Feng felt a bit helpless. After all, this girl meant well, and if he continued to refuse, he feared that it would hurt her feelings. So he reluctantly agreed.
Thus, the two walked side by side and continued deeper into the mountains.
As they walked, Ling Feng asked, "Have you been to Hu Family Village before?"
"When I was young, I went there once while collecting mushrooms with my parents. But I ended up crying from exhaustion on the way back, so I never went again!" Hehua replied.
"It’s definitely quite far. You won’t cry from exhaustion now, will you?" Ling Feng teased with a smile.
Hehua rolled her eyes, "Of course not! I’m an adult now, alright? How could I still be that childish?"
"You’re right. Even if you were tired, you wouldn’t say so!" Ling Feng nodded.
As the pair chatted, they soon reached the spot where tea leaves were previously collected.
Calculating that there were still over ten kilometers of mountain paths to cover, and estimating that they wouldn’t reach Hu Family Village until around two or three in the afternoon at their current pace, Ling Feng glanced at Hehua and said, "I have a quicker way to move through the mountains, but I’d need to carry you, or else you wouldn’t be able to keep up. Would you be okay with that?"
"Ah?"
Hehua was taken aback by the suggestion, her face flushing two shades of red. She stammered, "Are you serious? You’re not trying to take advantage of me, are you?"
"Of course not!"
Ling Feng had anticipated such a reaction and explained patiently, "Walking is too slow. I want to get there sooner!"
Hehua hesitated for a moment, then lowered her head, "Alright, then."
"Don’t close your eyes out of nervousness later. Since you’re acting as my guide, you’ll need to keep an eye on the road ahead," Ling Feng said as he reached out and wrapped an arm around her waist.
Though Hehua was tall, her frame was slender and light, weighing barely 100 pounds. Ling Feng barely felt her weight at all.
Meanwhile, Hehua’s heart was racing, but her curiosity overpowered her shyness—she was eager to see how Ling Feng planned to traverse the mountains quickly.
Eyes wide, she whispered, "I’m ready!"
"Alright, let’s go!"
Ling Feng nodded and sprang forward!
The surrounding trees blurred past in an instant. Hehua’s eyes widened to the max, unable to even let out a scream as they suddenly surged twenty meters ahead!
This cleared things up for Hehua—Ling Feng indeed had extraordinary skills!
Just as she had been nervous moments ago, she quickly shook it off. Instead, she found herself thoroughly enjoying the thrill and even let out a laugh!
Seeing her reaction, Ling Feng felt reassured and began sprinting swiftly through the mountains.
Within merely a few minutes, the two had already traveled more than two kilometers, soon arriving at the base of a screen-like mountain wall.
"Take a left turn here, then loop back around," Hehua reminded.
"Got it!"
Ling Feng acknowledged her instruction while hurtling forward.
By now, Hehua had adapted to the pace. Her small hands were clutching Ling Feng’s shoulder, her focus entirely on pointing out obstacles ahead, leaving any girlish embarrassment far behind.
A half-hour later, the pair reached a narrow mountain valley. In front of them stood two opposing peaks with only a few-meter-wide passageway. Ling Feng halted his footsteps.
"Once we pass through this ’thread of heaven,’ the old site of Hu Family Village isn’t far ahead!" Hehua said.
"Wow, this place is really out of the way. No wonder the villagers decided to move out!"
Ling Feng remarked, releasing her waist.
Hehua breathed a sigh of relief and sneaked a glance at him.
Ling Feng didn’t seem to notice. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "Once we enter the village, if we encounter any danger, make sure not to panic. I’ll protect you!"
"Got it, I’m not scared!"
Hehua nodded firmly, feeling an inexplicable trust in him. With Ling Feng present, she felt safe no matter what happened!
Hearing her response, Ling Feng could only smile bitterly, his emotions complicated.
On one hand, he hoped nothing would go wrong, yet he also wished to find clues about Xinglong Gang and Hu Tiesheng’s whereabouts. It was a conflicted mix of feelings!
