Chapter 201: Perfectly Justified
Chapter 201: Perfectly Justified
Nathaniel’s movements were a little too rough, and he accidentally bumped Vera’s injured hand. She couldn’t stop a pained whimper from escaping her lips. In the charged darkness of the secluded alley, that sound held an ineffable allure.
Hearing that sound, Nathaniel felt a hot rush surge through him. He fought back the urge to pin her down and kiss her madly, letting out a soft snort as he released her.
His eyesight was far superior to the average person’s, allowing him to clearly see every expression on her face even in the dim alley.
She was staring at him with glistening eyes, her lips slightly swollen from the kiss, looking luscious and vibrantly red.
The sight of her made him feel like every cell in his body was screaming at him to pounce. He barely managed to hold back, turning his head away. He slung his bag over his shoulder and started walking out of the alley.
Vera had no idea what was wrong with him this time. ’But if I have to be the one to coax him every time he gets all proud and moody,’ she thought, ’then I’ll be way too passive in this relationship!’
So she huffed from behind him, "Pervert!"
Nathaniel stopped in his tracks. "I can be even more of a pervert. Want to find out?"
Vera’s face instantly flushed red. ’I absolutely do not want to find out!’
Nathaniel added, "You’re my legally wedded wife. Kissing you is my God-given right!"
Vera: "..."
’How could he say that with such a straight face?’
Nathaniel shot her a discontented look. "We haven’t seen each other in so long, and the second we do, you’re kissing someone else right in front of me. Meanwhile, I’ve only ever kissed you. So, Vera, you’re just heartless and completely out of line!"
Vera: "!!!!!!"
It took her a moment to realize that when he said she’d "kissed someone else," he was talking about the CPR she’d performed to save Lana Sterling. ’Young Master Nathan, are you always this unreasonable?’
Nathaniel reached out and took her uninjured hand. "Remember this from now on. You are not to kiss anyone else, under any circumstances. Not even other women!"
Vera gave up on trying to reason with him. ’When this guy decides to be unreasonable, there’s just no getting through to him!’
Her silence clearly annoyed Nathaniel. "Are you quiet because you want me to kiss you?"
Vera quickly blurted, "That’s not it!"
"Vera, you’re heartless! I’m your husband, and you don’t even want me to kiss you!" Nathaniel’s brows knitted together.
Vera felt like crying. ’Young Master Nathan, can’t you be just a little bit reasonable? Please, I’m begging you, go back to being your cold and aloof self from our past life. I really can’t handle you like this!’
She took a deep breath and said, "Of course not. I was silent because I was tacitly agreeing with you. You’re my husband, you’re my world. I’ll listen to whatever you say!"
"That’s more like it." No longer content with just holding her hand, Nathaniel wrapped his arm directly around her waist.
Vera’s face instantly turned scarlet. ’In the early 1990s, a couple walking down the street like this would draw a lot of stares, you know?’
She wanted to ask him to remove his arm, but then she thought about his personality and silently gave up on the idea.
She could only console herself with the thought, ’At least it’s late. Back in the nineties, Crestfall only had streetlights on the main roads. Everywhere else is pitch-black, so no one can see us. And even if they did, they wouldn’t be able to recognize us...’
The night breeze gently lifted her hair, letting it brush against his face. The light touch sent a stir through his heart. His body tensed, and he drew in a sharp breath.
