Chapter 200: Profound Love
Chapter 200: Profound Love
The thug leader frantically kowtowed to Vera Xavier. "Sister-in-law, I swear to God! We might have done some shady stuff before, but it was just stealing a pig or nabbing a cage of chickens. Occasionally we’d get paid for a brawl. But this is the absolute first time we’ve ever done something like tonight! I’m begging you, spare us. From now on, we’ll do whatever you say!"
Vera Xavier looked coldly at the thug leader. "Enough. Keep bowing like that and you’ll crack the pavement. I can let you off the hook for tonight, but you’d better remember what you just said."
The thug leader was overjoyed. "Don’t worry, Sister-in-law, we’ll take it to heart! From this day on, we’re all your men..."
Nathaniel Nathan’s icy gaze swept over. The thug leader shivered and quickly explained, "What I mean is, if you point us east, we’d never dare go west. If you tell us to beat up John Archer, we’d never touch Tom! And that Wesley Kane who tried to have you harmed—we’ll take care of him for you!"
"Enough!" Vera Xavier said coldly. "I’m a civilized person. Cut the talk about fighting and killing in front of me. As for Wesley Kane, you’ll wait for my instructions. Don’t make any rash moves and lower my standards."
The thug leader froze for a moment, then hurriedly said, "Yes, yes, yes, we’ll listen to everything Sister-in-law says! From now on, we’re going to be gangsters with class!"
After saying this, he glared at the thugs behind him, who immediately chimed in, "From now on, we’ll follow Sister-in-law and be gangsters with class!"
Vera Xavier: "..."
’Damn it, since when did I become a gangster?’
Vera Xavier shot them a sidelong glare. "You have three seconds. Get the hell out of my sight!"
The thug leader frantically nodded and bowed. With a single command, they all vanished without a trace in less than three seconds.
As soon as they were gone, the dim alley fell silent. Vera picked up the backpack she had dropped, dusted it off, and was about to sling it over her shoulder when she noticed Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes fixed on her like daggers.
She looked at him, then back at herself. ’I didn’t do anything wrong, did I? Why is he looking at me like that?’
Seeing her expression, Nathaniel Nathan muttered under his breath, "Are you genuinely clueless or just playing dumb?"
Vera was utterly bewildered. At the end of his rope, Nathaniel reached over, took the backpack from her hand, and slung it onto his own back. "Your man is standing right here. Do you really need to be doing the heavy lifting?"
Vera Xavier: "..."
’In her past life, she’d been a tough, independent woman for so long that no one had ever carried her bag for her. She truly had zero awareness when it came to matters like this.’
But watching him carry the bag for her, a warmth spread through her heart. ’It feels so good to be cherished and pampered like this.’
Nathaniel thought her expression was a little silly, yet inexplicably alluring. His gaze deepened in an instant as he backed her against the wall, planting a hand beside her ear.
Her heart skipped a beat. She cleared her throat and asked, "Wh-what’s wrong?"
Without a word, Nathaniel crushed his lips against hers. His scorching breath swept over her like a gale, ravaging her lips and her mouth. His fierce, domineering presence felt like it would plunder her very soul.
Vera let out a muffled "mmph," trying to push him away. But her resistance only seemed to provoke him, and he deepened the kiss.
’She tasted so sweet. Once he’d had a taste, he could never forget it. It only made him want more.’
