Chapter 835: Bonus - 1

Extra #1

"Almost there, push!"

"Push!"

"Ugh...!"

Lola breathed in and out as she tried to push the baby out. She clutched Atlas’s hand as tightly as she could, beads of sweat forming on her forehead and across her entire body.

"It’s almost there!" said the doctor, but Lola could only curse him in her mind. He had been saying that for minutes now, but until now, the baby was still not there.

"You can do it."

Atlas breathed out, his complexion even paler than before, so a nurse had to approach him. He appeared as if he were about to press his power-off button.

Finally, Atlas understood why Zoren had fainted when Penny gave birth. Watching his wife push the baby out was a traumatizing sight.

She looked to be in unbearable pain, and he would never forget it for the rest of his life... or the doctors who recommended this "painless" procedure.

It didn’t look painless at all!

Meanwhile, outside the delivery room, the Bennet family waited.

Penny, Hugo, Nina, and Slater sat in the hallway, watching their father, Charles, pace back and forth in front of them. The rest was still rushing in here since Lola’s water broke while they were together.

"Is this what he was like when I was giving birth?" Penny asked her siblings, and they all nodded at once.

"Actually, he was way worse," Slater remarked in a knowing tone. "If not for Mom, he would’ve fainted. Uncle Haines had to take him away."

"Speaking of Uncle Haines, do you know what he looked like when Grace was giving birth?" Hugo said happily, as if he had just remembered something funny.

But alas, none of them laughed. They only stared at him.

"Second Brother, we were also there," Nina said flatly. "Uncle Haines didn’t make it and collapsed in the delivery room. He only woke up when he heard the baby cry."

"Second Brother, when are you going to have children?" Slater asked out of pure curiosity. "I know you and fake sister decided to be child-free, but I thought I heard you two talking about having one."

"Huh?!" Penny leaned closer, wide-eyed. "The two of you will?!"

What about the countless strays the two of them had adopted? The rescue shelter they established together? Didn’t Kiara and Hugo say they would just be fur parents forever?

Hugo grinned smugly as he leaned back and shrugged. "That’s a surprise for tomorrow."

"Huh?" Everyone furrowed their brows.

"Kiara and I agreed that we could try, but we’re not thinking too much about it," he explained. "We’re already happy, anyway, with our small kingdom of furs."

Everyone’s expressions twitched slightly as they looked at him with mixed feelings.

Then Slater and Penny’s eyes shifted to Nina. The latter chuckled, as if she had expected the conversation to turn to her.

"Not yet." Nina pursed her lips and smiled. "Although we like the idea of having children of our own, it’s a huge responsibility. And we’re not ready yet."

Financially, they were prepared.

But physically and mentally? They weren’t so sure.

Since Finn grew up in a neglected household, he knew that providing food on the table and a good education was not all he needed to do. As for Nina, her firm was still considered new. She still wanted to explore her career.

Having children was a lifetime commitment, and despite the pressure, they didn’t want to have children just because.

"Anyway," Nina smacked her lips as she leaned back in her seat, looking up at the spiraling Charles. Her lips curled upward. "We’ll just enjoy being the best aunt and uncle for now."

Slater snorted. "As if!"

As for Penny and Hugo, they raised their brows and kept their thoughts to themselves. There was no need to hurt Nina’s feelings, even though claiming that title was a far-fetched dream for her.

"My dear Lola, oh goodness!" Charles clutched his chest, feeling it tighten as if he were going to have a heart attack soon. "I hope she’s okay! That bastard — how dare he make my daughter suffer?!"

His emotions ranged from utter worry to anger, giving his children quite a show.

"Dad, that bastard is your son," Hugo muttered. "And don’t forget, Mom used to be sickly, but you kept getting her pregnant."

As soon as those words rolled out of Hugo’s mouth, he bit his tongue after earning a death glare from his father.

"Wow, First Brother is such a jerk!"

At the same time, a faint cry from inside the delivery room pierced through the door that separated them. They all turned their heads, their faces brightening. Slater even stood up while staring at the door.

"My niece... oh, my good niece!" Slater whispered, his face clearing of all worry. "...this time, I’ll make it right."

Among all his nieces and nephews, Slater had failed to wire their brains to believe he was the best. There had been too much competition and too many trials and errors.

But this time, with this new baby in the family, he would make sure the title of best uncle was ingrained in her brain!

Meanwhile, inside the delivery room, Lola gasped for air. Her chest rose and fell as she felt a small weight on her chest. Her hand held the tiny body even though her own was shaking so much.

"Bab..." she breathed as she gazed down, her eyes stinging with mixed emotions.

She didn’t know whether to smile, cry, or make the baby stop crying.

Intuitively, she turned to her side, where Atlas had moved closer. He looked at the baby that had yet to be wiped clean before meeting her gaze.

His eyes softened, his heart bursting with countless emotions. The corners of his eyes were red with lingering worry and pure happiness as he shared this moment with his wife.

He couldn’t even say a word.

All he could do was wipe her forehead and plant a kiss on top of her head. Then he leaned his head against hers, his eyes on the chubby baby who was still crying.

But that crying?

In their ears, it was the most beautiful sound in the world.

The sound of another life.

The fruit of their love.

And a blessing from heaven.

"She’s so..." Lola trailed off as she chuckled, staring at the baby. Now she understood why it took so much pushing. "... round and big."
