Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 991 - 990: Relationship

Chapter 991 - 990: Relationship

Tang Tang’s words brought a sudden silence to the air.

The topic was awkward to voice, as the three people in the room had been maintaining an unspoken agreement not to bring it up.

It was as if not mentioning it meant it hadn’t happened.

But now, Tang Tang had brought it up, as if suddenly ripping off a veil of shame.

After speaking, Tang Tang stood there awkwardly, shifting her fingers and feet, clearly nervous and unsure of what to do.

Guoguo also felt embarrassed, lowering her head like her sister, not daring to look at Xu Ke.

Their behavior didn’t seem like that of victims; to an outsider, it would appear as if they had done something wrong.

Watching Tang Tang and Guoguo’s reactions brought a slight bitterness to his heart, but not for himself. It was a bitterness for the two sisters.

He contemplated what kind of life they must have had to react with such fear and insecurity despite being victims.

Some things shouldn’t be thought about too deeply; doing so inevitably brings about a pang of compassion.

Xu Ke originally planned to talk about this matter after dinner, although he initially couldn’t accept it either.

But the event had occurred, and he’d done what he could. As a man, admitting nothing or shirking responsibility would make him no better than an animal.

Yet, since Tang Tang had brought it up now, Xu Ke decided not to wait until after dinner.

Better to avoid letting the sensitive sisters overthink it and get themselves all upset over nonsense.

Besides, it should be the man’s responsibility to bring up such matters, rather than leaving everything for the women to handle. That would be shirking his duty as a man.

Xu Ke placed his phone and wallet on the table, looking at the anxious sisters and said, "You two, come sit down. Since the topic has come up, I need to talk to you both."

Upon hearing Xu Ke’s words, the sisters instinctively looked at him with apprehension, then forced themselves to calmly sit at the table.

Although they pretended to be calm, the redness in their eyes betrayed them completely.

Understanding their anxiety, Xu Ke let out a deep sigh.

But that sigh was enough to finally break their emotional defenses.

"We know you don’t like us. We won’t ask anything of you because of this incident. We know you did it for our sake. We are not the kind of people who don’t know right from wrong. Let’s just act as if it never happened, please don’t drive us away, okay? We have nowhere else to go."

Tang Tang spoke with a choked voice, keeping her head lowered, not daring to look at Xu Ke, but tears splashed onto her hands, her shoulders shaking.

Anyone could tell she was crying.

Perhaps it was twin intuition, but Guoguo, though silent, was also crying just like Tang Tang.

Seeing them sitting there, too afraid to cry aloud or show their tears, filled Xu Ke with a dense wave of sympathy.

Even caring for an animal for so long can create bonds, let alone when you’re dealing with people.

"I’m not going to drive you away. I just want to apologize. I acted without your consent, and I took advantage of the situation. I hope for your forgiveness." Xu Ke began with a sincere apology for his earlier actions.

Regardless of his reasons at the time or his intentions, his actions had hurt Tang Tang and Guoguo.

Even though he knew they didn’t like him, he understood it didn’t justify his actions without their consent.

If they chose to pursue it, what he did was legally wrong, the very kind of infraction he wanted to avoid most.

Tang Tang and Guoguo were even more flustered by Xu Ke’s apology, looking up at him in disbelief with tears still hanging from their long eyelashes.

They weren’t sure what Xu Ke’s words meant, but they’d seen enough TV dramas to know such situations rarely ended well.

Fear crept into their hearts.

"Brother Xu, what do you mean? Are you asking us to leave?" Guoguo said anxiously, her hands twisted together under the table.

"I’m not asking you to leave. I’m just apologizing for my actions. Regardless of whether you forgive me, it’s something I must do."

"We know you meant well. We don’t blame you, honestly. You’ve helped us so many times. In our hearts, you’re a great person, no matter what you’ve done." Tang Tang eagerly replied.

Though Guoguo didn’t speak, her nod and gaze showed her agreement with Tang Tang’s view.

"What happened happened, and help is help; they must not be mixed. Besides this matter, there’s something else I need to discuss."

When Xu Ke mentioned ’something else,’ the sisters straightened up, sensing it must be important, given Xu Ke’s serious demeanor.

Seeing his expression, their anxiety and nervousness intensified.

But they kept silent, waiting for Xu Ke to continue.

Seeing their tension, Xu Ke didn’t pause further, "Since this happened, someone must take responsibility. Would you be willing to stay with me?"

Neither sister expected him to say this, leaving them momentarily in shock.

The surprise felt like a heavy blow, making them see stars, unsure of how to react.
