Chapter 931 - 930: Mutual Clashing
Time flies like a white horse passing a gap, and before you know it, the end of the month has arrived. To avoid disappointing his sister, Xu Ke had already received the D-brand dress and the complete set of accessories that He Chen had someone deliver. He Chen even uncharacteristically made a phone call to Xu Ke early in the morning. Fortunately, Xu Ke doesn’t have a habit of sleeping in, or he might have been caught in bed.
"You saw the things I sent you, right? Put on the clothes and go with them to get styled. I don’t want your entrance to be too embarrassing and to disgrace my sister." He Chen’s voice came through the phone receiver, contrasting with the image of a refined and handsome young man blocking himself in a room early in the morning, holding gift boxes in his hands.
He Chen finished speaking without waiting for a response and hung up the phone immediately, not giving Xu Ke any chance to express his opinion. You could say he was rather autocratic.
The man standing in front of Xu Ke showed a polite smile and pushed up his glasses with his hand.
"You heard He’s instructions. Please cooperate. We need to arrive at the studio by 10 o’clock. The stylist is already waiting for us there. Considering the journey, plus the potential traffic congestion, we need to leave two hours in advance. This means you have fifteen minutes to get ready, so please hurry up. Otherwise, we’ll be late, and this stylist is very hard to book." The man said in a gentle voice.
Xu Ke raised an eyebrow and responded indifferently, but his actions showed no sense of urgency. He just had the man put the clothes on the sofa, and instead of dressing, he turned and went to the kitchen to make himself something to eat.
The man frowned at Xu Ke’s actions, "Mr. Xu, we’re in a hurry now. If you want to eat, you can do so after the styling is done. What you need to do now is change clothes and then come with me for styling."
But Xu Ke acted as if he hadn’t heard a word, continuing to make himself a sandwich in the kitchen, even asking the man leisurely, "Do you want some?"
The man’s stomach was filled with anger by Xu Ke’s attitude. He hadn’t thought much of Xu Ke from the start, thinking him just lucky for saving He Qing once and catching He Chen’s attention. Now he was posturing, ignoring his advice repeatedly. In the man’s mind, all Xu Ke’s actions drew huge crosses.
"I don’t want any. If you heard what I said, please cooperate. It’s also what He wants." The man said, emphasizing his tone.
"I have a rebellious streak. The more others don’t want me to do something, the more I like doing it." Xu Ke looked at the man and raised the sandwich in his hand, taking a bite under his gaze. Some ketchup oozed out, staining the bread like fresh, red blood, making the man’s eyebrows twitch.
When Xu Ke finished eating and changed his clothes, fifteen minutes had long passed. The man, who had been checking the time on his watch non-stop, looked indifferent by now, whether he’d accepted it or was just resigned, waiting for Xu Ke. When Xu Ke finished dressing, the man even took the initiative to ask, "Don’t you want to rest a bit more?"
After all, he had carried out He’s instructions carefully. It was Xu Ke who didn’t cooperate. If He asked about it, he wasn’t afraid of being blamed by He. He believed He wouldn’t blame him without knowing the full story, but this man, who didn’t take He’s words seriously and thought he was impressive after helping He Qing a few times, might irritate He instead.
Thinking about what might happen to the man who didn’t heed his words made him feel much better, and he even felt like delaying a bit himself, even if Xu Ke didn’t.
"No need. I’ve rested enough." Xu Ke gave the man a meaningful look as if he could see right through his thoughts, sending a shiver from the man’s tailbone to the top of his head, making him tremble instinctively.
The two of them walked one after the other to the community parking lot. The man had brought a low-key business car and was about to sit in the driver’s seat when Xu Ke raised a hand to stop him.
"Let me drive. You just mark the destination on the GPS." Xu Ke said, placing a hand on the car door.
The man saw Xu Ke wanted to drive and felt relieved. Initially, he planned to find an excuse to humiliate Xu Ke before getting in the car, but for some reason, when he looked into Xu Ke’s eyes, he swallowed all his words and obediently sat in the passenger seat, not giving Xu Ke any trouble.
The man should be glad he didn’t speak when he shouldn’t have. While sitting in the car, he didn’t feel much, but soon Xu Ke showed him the naivety of his thoughts with his actions.
The car wasn’t just fast; it was practically flying low.
The man clutched his seatbelt tightly, not daring to open his eyes for fear of seeing his scattered bones in the next second. If not for his good upbringing, he might have screamed. It was all too terrifying. He even suspected they weren’t on a bustling street but a track designed for racers; otherwise, why was the car so fast?
"Slow down, be careful," the man said, nerves taut and teeth clenched to contain his fear.
"Relax, it’s fine. Besides, didn’t you say we were in a hurry? What if we’re slow and late?" Xu Ke, quite petty, repeated the man’s words back to him. Without looking, Xu Ke knew the man’s expression must be awful now, and the thought made Xu Ke chuckle.
The journey, supposed to take two hours, was cut to under an hour by Xu Ke’s driving maneuvers. Xu Ke glanced at his watch and whistled, feeling pleased.
"Not only were we not late, but we arrived so early. I should have taken my time resting at home." Xu Ke said.
As the person who had been speeding, Xu Ke seemed unfazed, even radiant. But the man in the passenger seat looked like he’d been to hell and back, slumped in the seat, staring blankly ahead, mouth slightly agape as if to spit out his soul, looking thoroughly shaken.
"Are you okay?" Xu Ke asked, glancing at the man with a weary and vulnerable appearance, feeling a tiny sprout of conscience breaking through within him, only for it to quickly vanish as if it had never been there.
