Chapter 930 - 929: Gratitude
Chapter 930 - 929: Gratitude
He Chen, having dealt with the man’s affairs, felt refreshed for the moment.
Meanwhile, at the other hospital, He Qing was slowly recovering and could gradually move her limbs.
"Where are brother and Xu Ke?" The first thing He Qing asked as soon as she could speak was about the whereabouts of those two people.
"Young master He went out, Mr. Xu should have gone home." The caregiver brought He Qing nutritious meals and spoke.
"Alright." He Qing looked somewhat forlorn.
"No matter which of the two comes, you must tell me first thing, okay?" He Qing instructed as she drank a mouthful of porridge.
Although He Qing had regained some control over her body, her limbs were still weak with little strength, so the caregiver fed her meals.
He Qing didn’t have to wait long; He Chen, having finished his business, arrived at the hospital cheerfully to accompany his beloved sister.
Seeing her brother, He Qing’s eyes lit up, and her face beamed with an unstoppable smile.
"Brother, you’re here. Where did you go? I woke up and didn’t see you." He Qing pouted coyly.
He Chen approached the caregiver and took over feeding He Qing.
"What could I do? Of course, I went to vent for our family’s precious sister. That bastard who hurt you, I punished him a bit, and now he can never hurt you again, nor anyone else." He Chen said gently.
"I knew you’d always be the best to me." Hearing that He Chen had vented for her, He Qing’s smile grew even wider.
"By the way, brother, do you know what Xu Ke went to do? Why didn’t I see him when I woke up?" He Qing asked.
Hearing his sister mention Xu Ke in his presence, He Chen’s expression darkened a bit, "What, having your brother by your side isn’t enough for you? You still want another man?" He Chen glared at He Qing as he spoke.
"Not enough. You know I’ve been greedy since I was little. I want both of you by my side. Also, brother, I was able to escape the tiger’s mouth this time thanks to Xu Ke. You must thank him properly, okay?" He Qing-worriedly reminded.
"Got it, I won’t let him down." He Chen sighed.
Seeing He Chen look pained, He Qing chuckled heartlessly.
"And brother, stop looking at Xu Ke with bias. I think today’s events proved he’s a good person, don’t you agree?" He Qing took advantage of Xu Ke’s rescue to say quickly.
Seeing his sister showing favoritism, He Chen sighed deeply, feeling like his carefully nurtured cabbage had been stolen by an outsider pig.
Heartache mixed with sadness.
"Alright, alright, I’ll do as you say. But don’t mention Xu Ke to me again, or I’ll continue targeting him." He Chen threatened He Qing.
He Qing was startled by He Chen’s words, "Come on, brother, you need to be reasonable. Why are you like this?"
"How am I? I come back from outside, and you don’t even ask if I’m alright. Talking to me, two and a half out of three sentences are about Xu Ke, completely forgetting the real person standing before you. Isn’t it enough to make me angry?" He Chen glared at He Qing fiercely, accusing.
Hearing this, He Qing couldn’t help but laugh.
"What are you laughing at?" He Chen asked, baffled by He Qing’s laughter.
"Of course, I’m laughing at how my brother, such a grown man, can be jealous of others. I haven’t seen you jealous for me for such a long time—it’s really cute." He Qing said, holding her cheeks.
"You can’t call a man cute." He Chen looked at He Qing seriously, wanting her to understand the importance of the matter.
"Yes, yes, whatever you say. You’re not cute; my brother is handsome." He Qing gave He Chen a thumbs-up.
The siblings started playfully bickering, with the caregiver watching affectionately from the side.
Meanwhile, Xu Ke was relaxed, wandering around the city like an ordinary person.
Thinking of the person who had approached him for collaboration, Xu Ke’s eyes darkened a bit, surprised by their quick action. Whether they’d be caught by He Chen remained to be seen.
Thinking about He Chen’s deep protective stance toward his sister, Xu Ke could imagine how crazy He Chen would be if he knew his sister was plotted against.
But these matters were no longer his concern; his task was complete, and the collaboration ended.
Even if they were caught by He Chen, Xu Ke was confident he could retreat unscathed, which was enough.
Xu Ke, having rescued He Qing again, was thanked by He Chen with a brand-new Z model sports car and a downtown apartment, an undeniably lavish gesture.
Before, Xu Ke had always thrown money around; this was the first time someone used money on him, and he found the experience rather intriguing.
Looking at the car keys and apartment keys in his hand, Xu Ke showed a cryptically meaningful expression, "Is this money to persuade me to leave this city?"
Seeing Xu Ke’s teasing manner, He Chen shook his head, "No, it’s simply a token of my gratitude. You saved my sister once again; I didn’t know how else to thank you, but I am very wealthy, so the one way I found was to give you money."
For such a gratitude gesture from He Chen, fortunately, the person before him was an equally wealthy Xu Ke; anyone else might see it as a show of wealth and feel bitter.
"By the way, the end of this month is my sister’s birthday. We’ll be hosting an event to announce Xiao Qing’s presence to Ning City. The invitation is here; Xiao Qing hopes you can come that day and I hope you won’t disappoint her." He Chen said, pulling out a lavender-hued invitation.
The elegantly designed lavender invitation had a touch of romantic naïveté, carrying a sweet yet faint aroma—not overpowering, pleasantly wafting to the nose without cloying, even suitable for a man.
"Rest assured, I’ll be there." Xu Ke said with a smile, holding the invitation.
He Chen watched Xu Ke with a slight pang, unsure of what his sister saw in Xu Ke. Was it just the pretty face? How could anyone be so superficial! He Chen thought sourly.
Although he still didn’t like Xu Ke, because the latter had saved his sister twice, He Chen’s attitude toward Xu Ke had improved significantly. Hearing Xu Ke agree to attend, he didn’t mock or warn, merely nodded to show he understood, but couldn’t resist reminding before leaving, "Dress nicely, I don’t want people to mock my sister’s taste in friends."
