Chapter 921 - 920: The Bet
Chapter 921 - 920: The Bet
What happened in the private room, the three who left couldn’t know. Xu Ke heard about the police cars that came the next night.
"I heard the whole face was ruined. For people in their line of work, if they lose their face, they lose everything."
"It’s not just the face, apparently there isn’t a piece of good flesh on the body; the wounds can show bone."
"Really? That ruthless? What did he do to offend the other party, making them want to destroy him?"
"A friend at the police station told me he died in agony, still alive when the flesh was bitten off."
"Oh my heavens, that terrifying? That’s so scary, stop talking, you’re frightening me."
In the employee lounge, a few people sat around chatting, occasionally exclaiming.
Xu Ke heard them from afar and followed the sound over.
"What are you talking about?"
Xu Ke’s voice suddenly sounded behind them, startling them. When they saw it was him, they sighed with relief and pulled him in smiling.
Because Xu Ke treated them well, they didn’t see him as an outsider. They directly pulled him in to continue gossiping.
"Manager, you might not know, but something big happened at the Saintly Club; someone died in room 302." The speaker looked outside mysteriously before speaking to Xu Ke.
Xu Ke raised his brow, recalling the incident in room 302.
"How could someone die?" Seeing their eager eyes for gossip, Xu Ke followed up with a question.
"Who knows, yesterday the boss in the private room bit one of our club’s boys to death. When he died, it’s said there wasn’t a piece of good flesh on his body. His face was slashed beyond recognition, exposing bones; apparently died due to blood loss."
"Manager, you went to room 302 yesterday. Do you know what happened inside? Can you tell us? We’re curious."
With a starting point, the others couldn’t restrain their curiosity and asked eagerly.
The lounge suddenly turned into a marketplace with everyone talking noisily.
Xu Ke thought quickly; no need to ask, he knew who the person inside was.
Originally planning to take action against that alluring man himself, he hadn’t expected the man would die at the hands of the big boss instead.
The death was particularly tragic, in a way counting as poetic justice.
Holding evil intentions, but ultimately harming oneself.
"I don’t know what happened inside either. It’s work time now; stop with the gossip and get to work. When guests come and you’re absent, it’ll be awful."
Xu Ke quickly dismissed them and left the lounge to start his day.
In a private room at the Saintly Club, a few people sat quietly. Though it was a place for fun, they turned it into a meeting spot.
"What do you think he’s up to, doing pointless work day after day, not even looking for He Chen anymore, and hasn’t sought out He Qing. I heard his relationship with the He Family has broken. Does he plan to climb up?" someone said in the room.
If Xu Ke came to the room now, he’d find the five seated there were all people he knew, except for Bear who was missing.
The man who spoke had tattoos on his chest.
As soon as the man spoke, the Saintly Club’s manager spoke up, "Your information is outdated. They reconciled last night. He Chen brought He Qing over, supporting him. The club’s murder case is loosely related to this."
"Oh? There’s more to it? Didn’t expect his maneuvering would be so impressive—what’s this called, strategic retreat?" the tattooed man grinned.
"What do you think, can his tactics really let him win over the He Family? When will these matters have results?" the tattooed man spun his glass and said.
"No rush. He’s not anxious; why should we be? It’s his concern, not ours," said another man with piercings.
"You don’t get it; it’s like watching a drama series without the finale—it’s uncomfortable," the tattooed man glanced at the pierced one and explained.
"Then you’ll be waiting forever. This kid seems uncertain; maybe all talk with no progress," the pierced man replied dismissively.
"You can’t say that; how do you know he hasn’t done anything? I actually think he can win over the He siblings."
The seemingly honest man removed his glasses, wiped imaginary dust off as he spoke.
"You have so much faith in him?" the club manager asked surprised.
"This is the first time I see you have such confidence in someone. He didn’t enchant you, did he?" the manager joked.
"I just have a feeling. I’m a big believer in intuition." The honest man smiled shyly in reply.
Lu Xun watched them discuss Xu Ke in front of him. For some reason, he felt somewhat agitated.
Downed his drink in one gulp and then silently pushed open the door and left the room.
Lu Xun’s move left the room in surprise.
"What’s with him? Why did he just leave?" the tattooed man asked, confused.
"How should we know? He’s always mysterious; who knows what he thinks. Working with him all these years, I never understood him once," the pierced man shrugged indifferently.
Yet the club manager exchanged a glance with the honest man, then looked in the direction Lu Xun left, eyes gloomy as if pondering something.
"How about this, let’s bet on how long it’ll take Xu Ke to handle the He Family." The tattooed man tapped his finger as he spoke.
"Why suddenly want to bet?" the manager asked.
"Obviously out of boredom, nothing else to do but bet," the tattooed man said matter-of-factly.
"Will you both join?" the tattooed man asked.
"Join, why not join?" the pierced man retorted.
"What about you two?" the tattooed man looked at the two across from him.
Both nodded at the same time, making the tattooed man smile.
