Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 891: Hospital

Chapter 891: Hospital

"My leg seems to be broken, and a few ribs might be broken too. I think I really can’t walk anymore." The old drunkard tried to move his body after hearing Xu Ke’s words, and a sharp pain hit his brain immediately, causing him to gasp and reply.

"Tsk, you said you wanted to come over, I thought you’d be formidable, but turns out you’re just a frail chicken. With how fragile you are, why are you trying to show off?" Xu Ke clicked his tongue and said, looking at the old drunkard who wished he could cocoon himself on the ground.

The old drunkard’s head was facing the ground, so Xu Ke couldn’t see his expression and naturally didn’t notice the embarrassed look on his face after hearing those words.

Although Xu Ke was teasing the old drunkard verbally, he was incredibly careful when helping him up, afraid of causing further injury. As for why he didn’t directly call an ambulance, it was purely because the old drunkard disagreed, otherwise Xu Ke would have called long ago, no need to be so cautious.

During the process of helping the old drunkard onto the car, there was no way to continue covering his face, naturally exposing his bruised face that was almost like a color palette.

Seeing Xu Ke’s strange expression after looking at his face, the old drunkard’s eyes flashed with irritation, "If you want to laugh, just laugh out loud, no need to hold it in."

"I’m afraid laughing now might hurt your wounds, wait till I get you into the car, I’ll definitely have a good laugh." Xu Ke said, trying to hold back laughter.

Xu Ke wasn’t doing this deliberately. Usually, he could hold back laughter well enough, but now he didn’t dare to take another look at the old drunkard. Simply because the old drunkard looked too funny, taking one glance already stretched his self-control to the limit. There’s no way he could withstand a second look.

Hearing Xu Ke’s words, the old drunkard was both angry and embarrassed, but injured as he was, he didn’t dare speak loudly for fear of touching his wounds. Besides, regardless of the reason today, Xu Ke did help him, that’s undeniable. The old drunkard wasn’t going to turn against someone who had just helped him.

From the door to outside was mere tens of meters, yet the two took ten minutes to cover the distance. By the time Xu Ke placed the old drunkard in the back seat, his lips had completely lost color, and sweat beads covered his bruised face.

"Hang in there, I’ll take you to the hospital now." Xu Ke said, pulling the keys from the old drunkard, who now lacked energy even to talk, already spent much power suppressing the pain from screaming, having no strength left for words.

Xu Ke sent him to the hospital straight into the emergency room. By the time the old drunkard came out, it was completely dark outside. Upon opening his eyes, he saw his wife sobbing at the bedside, and seeing her like this made his heart ache. He raised a hand trying to wipe her tears, but accidentally moved his newly fixed injuries, gasping in pain, startling the crying woman.

"Don’t move recklessly, be careful not to touch your wounds." The woman said with a heavy nasal tone, looking at the old drunkard with pain in her eyes.

"I’m fine, don’t cry." The old drunkard said hoarsely looking at the woman with red eyes. "You know I can’t bear to see your tears."

"You tell me not to cry, look how badly you’re hurt. You know your ribs were close to piercing your lung, luckily it just broke. If it pierced your lung you’d suffer greatly, would you be healthy again? The thought of it scares me, even now it frightens me." The woman spoke while holding her chest, about to cry again at the thought.

"This is my fault, I promise it won’t happen again. I won’t do anything to worry you, okay? Don’t cry, seeing you cry makes my wounds ache." Seeing the woman tear up again, the old drunkard quickly put on a fragile act, truly unable to bear seeing his wife like this, her tears breaking his heart.

The old drunkard snuggled with his wife, while Xu Ke already accomplished his mission and returned home, lying down. Owing to the young man’s hospitalization from injuries, the house was empty, giving Xu Ke rare quietely days to think peacefully.

As for the former occupant of this house, the owner moved back into his newly renovated motel a few days ago. Xu Ke knew when he left, but didn’t ask to go with him, and the matter ended there.

The owner looked at Xu Ke with guilt, knowing he’d found out his schemes. So, he left quietly, thinking avoiding an encounter was better for both, unaware Xu Ke never cared for him.

To Xu Ke, the owner’s role was merely a stepping stone to cross a puddle without getting his shoes wet. Having done so, the puddle’s useless, his guilt or indifference matters not, the owner has no value left for Xu Ke.

Xu Ke lay in bed, gazing out the window at the sky turning black, black swallowing the moonlight as Xu Ke fell asleep in the transition.

The woman stayed in the hospital overnight with the old drunkard until dawn when he nudged her home.

Staring at the empty ward, the old drunkard glanced at the clock, knew Xu Ke would be coming.

Sure enough, soon enough the ward door opened from the outside, the person he’d been thinking of appeared.

"Have you been waiting long?" Xu Ke asked seeing the old drunkard’s unsurprised look, casually sat on a chair and spoke.

"Nope, you came at the right time, my wife just left and you entered, seems I won’t be lonely today." The old drunkard said calmly, looking at Xu Ke.
