Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 892: Confession

Chapter 892: Confession

"It seems I’ve really come at the right time." Xu Ke shrugged, speaking indifferently, as if he hadn’t caught the deeper meaning in the drunkard’s words.

"Just ask me whatever you want, before my wife returns. I don’t want her to know about us." The drunkard said with his eyes closed.

But the drunkard’s indifferent demeanor didn’t affect Xu Ke one bit. Since the incident caught the drunkard off guard, his wife had rushed over from home and stayed right by his side, bringing nothing but money. Similarly, Xu Ke came empty-handed today, leaving the room devoid of anything. Xu Ke originally wanted to hold something in his hand but gave up upon seeing the empty room.

Xu Ke refocused his attention on the drunkard. "Can you guarantee that, no matter what I ask you, you’ll answer me truthfully?" Xu Ke looked at the drunkard’s tightly shut eyes and asked.

The drunkard’s eyes moved slightly beneath his eyelids, then he opened them. "The words of the old drunkard are never lies."

Seeing the sincerity in the drunkard’s face, Xu Ke suddenly smiled for some reason. "I hope what you say is true."

"I assume you already know that I work with Brother Zhao. I want to know what kind of organization you’re in." Xu Ke asked the drunkard with piercing eyes.

The drunkard looked at Xu Ke without speaking, the room suddenly went silent with only the sound of their breathing intertwined.

After a while, perhaps the drunkard gave in, or maybe his superior approved, he began to answer Xu Ke’s question. "We’re just selling drugs, but they’re illegal drugs, otherwise we wouldn’t profit so much."

Hearing the drunkard’s words, Xu Ke asked calmly, "What’s your position compared to Brother Zhao in the organization, who holds the higher rank?"

"Our status is about the same, there’s no saying who is superior; we’re all the same," the old drunkard continued.

Xu Ke gave the drunkard a faint smile, sending shivers down his spine, as he kept thinking about his previous answer, finding nothing wrong with it. If nothing’s wrong, why did Xu Ke look at him with such an expression?

While the drunkard was puzzled about Xu Ke’s earlier gaze, Xu Ke asked the next question. "How long would it take for me to reach your status here?"

With this question, the drunkard finally realized where the problem lay. Looking at Xu Ke, they fell into a deadlock, neither willing to back down.

The stalemate continued until the drunkard finally broke eye contact, perhaps due to sore eyes or a guilty conscience. Either way, Xu Ke got the answer he wanted.

"Five years? Five years is too long. I dislike it. Is there a quick way to advance?" Xu Ke frowned and asked.

Upon hearing Xu Ke’s words, the drunkard paused. "Shouldn’t you hate doing this?" Considering Xu Ke’s prior behavior, shouldn’t he have stepped away upon learning this?

Seeing the drunkard’s suspicious eyes, Xu Ke’s expression turned intriguing, a chilling gaze that sent shivers down one’s spine. "Yeah, I hate doing this. Who likes doing this? It’s illegal. But what choice do I have? I’m already tied up with you guys, there’s no way out. With no way out, what can I do but accept my fate? Report to the police?"

Xu Ke chuckled coldly. "If I report, I’ll probably be the first to be caught. Since I’ve already stepped into this pit with no way out, I might as well do it the best I can."

Seeing Xu Ke like this, the drunkard was unsure whether to pity Xu Ke’s future or marvel at the young man’s tactics, managing to tie Xu Ke tightly onto their ship in such a short time.

The drunkard sighed deeply and spoke. "As long as you make a contribution, you just need to make a significant contribution, and let the organization see your value, and you can climb up quickly."

"Then why do you stay here?"

Seeing Xu Ke’s skeptical gaze, the drunkard showed a bitter smile. "I’m different from you, you’re still young, you aim for success and fame. But I’m old, my desires are simple, just to spend a relatively stable life with my wife and grow old together. That’s all I pursue. If I wanted to climb further, I wouldn’t have much peace left."

Xu Ke looked at the white hairs on the drunkard’s temples and accepted his explanation.

"I heard from Brother Zhao that our organization has some power abroad too?"

"Yes, that’s true."

"Which foreign power are we connected with?"

"Why do you ask that?" Hearing Xu Ke’s question, the drunkard’s gaze turned sharp. "You wouldn’t happen to be sent by the cops, would you?"

Facing the drunkard’s suspicion and questioning, Xu Ke felt his heart stable and showed no fluctuations. "If I was a cop, would I directly ask you this? Isn’t that like showing you I’m a cop and waiting for you to report me? I’m just asking to be prepared; how do you know I won’t expand abroad one day?"

Seeing Xu Ke’s arrogance and pride, the drunkard let out a sigh of relief, as if looking at an inexperienced child. "Ambition is great, but don’t aim too high in any industry. Once you reach that level, you won’t need me to tell you. Someone will naturally tell you these things."

Xu Ke nodded, looking serious. "You’re right; if you knew so much, you wouldn’t be languishing in this small town nor getting beaten up by some punks. That’s all I needed to know. Take care, take good care of your injuries. You’re not too young anymore, don’t leave any ailments behind."

With those words, Xu Ke stood up from the chair and walked out with a casual flair characteristic of youthful vigor.

Watching Xu Ke’s departing figure, the drunkard’s gaze was unexpectedly filled with a bit of envy. "Indeed, being young is better, so energetic and full of life."

The drunkard’s musing in the hospital room was unheard by anyone.
