Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 880: Coming to the Rescue

Chapter 880: Coming to the Rescue

Xu Ke came out of the hospital and headed straight to the young man’s rented apartment, without stopping anywhere else along the way. She was also tired after being out all day, after all, a person is not made of iron.

She slept through the day in a haze until Xu Ke finally got out of bed in the evening, surrounded by a feeling of hunger that really didn’t feel good.

Xu Ke rested on the bed for a while, quickly tidied herself up, opened the door, and left the room.

As soon as she went out, Xu Ke felt something amiss. Walking on the street, she always felt a prying gaze following her closely, which made her extremely uncomfortable. However, Xu Ke did not intend to shake them off but pretended not to know anything, allowing them to continue following her. Only by exposing herself to their sight could she lower their vigilance.

With the prying gaze behind her, Xu Ke walked into one of her favorite restaurants, ordered some food, ate, and soothed her growling stomach. Only then did Xu Ke feel that today was not so unbearable. But after finishing the meal, she didn’t immediately return to the young man’s place but wandered around the street, slowly digesting.

"Hey, why are you leaving?"

"Every time you see us, you want to leave. That’s not very nice, we haven’t done anything to you, so why do you avoid us?"

Two men’s voices rang out to Xu Ke’s left front, followed by the sounds of people jeering around, but amid these sounds, there was a particularly familiar female voice.

"Get out of my way, I don’t want to see you, you guys make me sick."

"We might not be as handsome as TV stars, but we don’t deserve to be hated to such a degree, do we?"

At first, Xu Ke couldn’t recall where she had heard these voices, they just felt strangely familiar, but when he heard that female voice, it all came rushing back.

The corners of Xu Ke’s mouth curled into a mysterious smile.

"Excuse me, make way." Xu Ke squeezed into the crowd.

Once inside, she saw the three boys she’d given a sound thrashing to the other day, but today was different from that day. The number of boys had increased from three to six, but the woman being surrounded was the same as that day.

"I was just worried about how long I’d have to wander around to digest all that food when you showed up. What? Want to practice with me?" Xu Ke said while cracking her knuckles, making a sound like firecrackers going off.

Seeing Xu Ke appear, the panic on the woman’s face diminished, as if she had suddenly found her backbone, but her expression still held a bit of worry because now she was facing not just three people but six. The woman was worried Xu Ke might suffer, she wanted to say something but was interrupted by the small gangsters.

The three who had previously tangled with Xu Ke felt their bones aching at his gesture. They instinctively took two steps back, trying to distance themselves from Xu Ke. But the other three who came with them, seeing Xu Ke for the first time, brazenly assessed him from top to bottom, then showed a disdainful smile.

"I thought someone incredible had come, but it’s just you. Not much meat on you, looking like some pretty boy. Are you two having an affair? Are you her kept man?" said the man with a scar on his face, who seemed to be the leader.

These days, people have a penchant for gossip. Upon hearing this baseless assumption, the crowd exploded, eyes darting between the woman and Xu Ke, whispering among themselves.

One didn’t need to hear what was being said; from their eyes and body language, it was clear they were speaking ill. The woman watched the scene feeling a blaze in her chest, as if ready to burn everyone in sight, causing her chest pain.

"That’s not our relationship at all, stop talking nonsense. Just because your mind is filthy and vile doesn’t mean you can see everyone that way. Don’t you find yourself disgusting?" the woman angrily retorted to the man who spoke.

"If you’re not in that kind of relationship, then so be it. Why so anxious? You look guilty as hell, meaning there’s something unusual between you two, otherwise, why get so worked up?" The scar-faced man shrugged, indifferent, as he listened to the murmurs around him.

His nonchalant demeanor contrasted starkly with the woman’s fury, making the onlookers more interested, as if their gaze was saying there really was something between the two.

Seeing the vainglory radiating from the scar-faced man, Xu Ke felt an increasing urge to punch someone.

"Only narrow-minded people see everything as filthy, refusing to listen to others and only believing their assumptions, no matter how groundless. People like that are often called stupid," Xu Ke calmly said, standing in front of them.

Xu Ke’s posture caused those who were gossiping to involuntarily lower their heads, faces burning, blaming the scar-faced man for bringing this upon them.

They weren’t sure why they acted this way but felt ugly prying into others’ affairs in front of Xu Ke’s dignified presence. Reluctant to admit fault, they just shifted the blame to another, easing their guilty conscience.

Seeing the accusing glances from the crowd, the scar-faced man raised an eyebrow but didn’t care. After all, their looks and words were harmless to him.

"You look unfamiliar, you must be new here? Do you know who I am? Daring to challenge me like this, you have some nerve." Though the scar-faced man couldn’t care less about the crowd’s gaze, he couldn’t tolerate Xu Ke’s challenge to his authority.
