Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 879: On Board the Pirate Ship

Chapter 879: On Board the Pirate Ship

"No need, I still owe money, consider this money a repayment." Xu Ke hurriedly waved his hand when he heard the young man say this, putting on a look of sincere fear.

The young man’s eyes were fixed on Xu Ke’s face, scrutinizing every subtle expression, until Xu Ke couldn’t meet his gaze, only then did he let him go.

"Are you scared? Trying to end our relationship quickly to get rid of me this way?" The young man watched as Xu Ke’s body flinched at his question, his eyes turning complicated.

"You’re too naive. Do you think you can get rid of me once you pay back the money? From the day you joined, you were destined not to extricate yourself. After all, you’ve seen so much. Do you think I’d let someone who knows my deadly secrets roam freely outside?" The young man’s voice was full of malice as he spoke.

"You’ve been plotting against me!" Xu Ke looked at the young man in shock and said.

"I’m not plotting against you; it’s just bad luck on your part to have encountered this, or maybe we’re destined. Even the heavens can’t bear to see us parting ways. They’ve tried every way to send you to my side. Just accept your fate and stop struggling. Besides, isn’t it good to be with me?" The young man looked at Xu Ke and asked rhetorically.

"Do you know how much profit we’ll make after this deal? Just this one, and your debt of two hundred thousand will be cleared. You’ve traveled everywhere as a photographer, going to dangerous places for the perfect shot, but how much have you earned? Your life is still tight, but just by doing this deal with me, the two hundred thousand becomes weightless. Isn’t the scent of money enticing?" The young man stared intently at Xu Ke, observing his reaction.

"But..."

"No buts." The young man interrupted Xu Ke’s words, "Do you want to live a poor life forever? Moreover, working with me doesn’t stop you from being a photographer. This job doesn’t require your constant attention, and goods don’t come in that quickly. You still have time to do what you want, to be a photographer. You can take this job as a side hustle. Isn’t that good?"

"Why push away money that’s right at your fingertips, isn’t that right?" The young man continued to persuade Xu Ke, whose face became increasingly conflicted, with words that felt like vines slowly wrapping around Xu Ke, trying to pull him into the mire.

Xu Ke’s eyes and expression were filled with struggle, as if angels and demons were shouting in his mind, tearing at him, making his expression appear painful. Yet, the young man watching Xu Ke’s expression had a faint smile of pleasure.

"I’ll give you time to consider, but don’t think about escaping. I’m the murderer, and you’re the accomplice, so no matter where you run to, I’ll find you. If you don’t run, your life may reach a very significant turning point, guaranteeing a life of luxury and indulgence, all the good days you can imagine. But if you run, you’ll end up like those I’ve dealt with – eternally sleeping in a place unknown, exposed to the wilderness." The young man’s tone carried a feigned regret, giving listeners goosebumps.

"That ending is so pitiable to even think about, do you want such a fate? And don’t think escaping abroad will save you. To be honest, we have forces abroad, even stronger than domestically. Running means moving from one large cage to an even larger one. Your life won’t escape our grasp. If I were you, I’d be wise and abandon those laughable qualities." The young man continued.

Just like the serpent tempting Eve to eat the Forbidden Fruit, the eyes he cast on Xu Ke were full of temptation.

Xu Ke avoided the young man’s eyes, but the young man wasn’t angry. Instead, his smile brightened because he knew Xu Ke’s last defense was about to be, or had already been, broken by him.

"I don’t want this. It’s utterly different from what I imagined." Xu Ke said in a low voice.

"But this is reality. There’s no free lunch. If you want to earn more, you have to give more than others and take on more risks. Isn’t that just normal?" The young man said.

"But, but what I might risk is my life."

At that moment, the man saw Xu Ke’s final concern, knowing exactly which aspect to tackle to defeat him.

"But isn’t every job like this?" The young man lowered his voice and said.

"What?" Xu Ke’s eyes showed clear confusion.

"Doing clerical work might risk sudden death from overwork. Being a photographer might have you falling off a cliff or being attacked by beasts. Sales have the risk of being hit by a car while out. Every profession has life risks. If so, why not choose a job with higher pay? Especially when your risks aren’t faced alone – I’m here sharing them with you."

The young man’s words made Xu Ke’s facial expressions change repeatedly, finally settling into calmness, his eyes becoming determined, causing the young man waiting for Xu Ke’s decision to smile confidently.

Indeed, Xu Ke didn’t let the young man down. In the end, he lowered his head, succumbing to money and reality.

"You’re right, if there’s risk everywhere, why not choose the one with greater returns?" Xu Ke murmured.

"It’s good you’re thinking that way. You don’t have to stay with me now; you’re tired, go rest." The young man looked at Xu Ke warmly and said.

As soon as the young man spoke, Xu Ke’s eyes turned tired, even letting out a big yawn.

"Alright, then I’ll head back to rest. If you need anything, just call me – my phone’s on 24/7, you’ll surely find me." Xu Ke said.

The young man nodded, and the atmosphere between the two suddenly became warm, as if the earlier tension had never happened.
