Chapter 878: Thieves Robbing Thieves
Chapter 878: Thieves Robbing Thieves
"Are you okay?" Xu Ke looked at the wound on the other’s shoulder and the wound on his abdomen as he asked.
"No problem, just a minor injury, it’s not too serious." The young man, clutching his abdomen, said with a grim expression.
"Thanks a lot for what happened today. If it weren’t for you, I might not have made it out of here alive." The young man’s expression softened considerably as he patted Xu Ke on the shoulder.
Previously, the man didn’t like Xu Ke, although he seemed to be amicable on the surface, it was superficial. Now his gentleness towards Xu Ke was genuine, with no pretenses.
He’s just that kind of person: when he dislikes someone, it’s genuine dislike, but when he’s good to someone, it’s sincerely good.
Xu Ke noticed the obvious change in attitude towards him and became even more concerned. "I think we should get out of here quickly. It looks like your injuries might be serious, and we should go to the hospital to get them treated properly." Xu Ke said as he was about to help the young man into the car but was stopped by him raising his hand.
"We can leave, but take the medicine." the young man said.
Hearing this, Xu Ke bent down to pick up the boxes that the young man had slashed open, only to be stopped again.
"Not these. These aren’t the goods we need. Let’s check inside the warehouse; the goods should be there." The young man said as he pulled Xu Ke towards the warehouse. Seeing the young man walking unsteadily, Xu Ke supported his arm, letting him lean his weight on him.
"Thanks." the young man said, noticing Xu Ke’s action,
"You’re welcome." Xu Ke replied coolly.
When they arrived at the warehouse, Xu Ke, unfamiliar with the place, showed no reaction, but the young man’s face displayed a hint of a satisfied smile.
"Damn, this injury was worth it." The young man opened a box to check, quickly moving to the next one, inspecting over a dozen boxes. Although his face was pale, his spirits were unusually high.
"Move all these goods to our car." the young man instructed Xu Ke.
"Okay, what about you?" Xu Ke asked as he noticed the young man was about to leave.
The man paused at the doorway, then said, "I’m going to deal with them."
"Deal with them? Do you mean what I think you mean?" Xu Ke looked at the young man, a hint of hesitation and fear on his face.
"We can’t do this. It’s wrong. It’s illegal." Xu Ke stopped moving the goods and waved his hands frantically, looking timid, a stark contrast to his earlier fierce demeanor.
"When you were breaking their arms and legs earlier, I didn’t see you being scared. You were quite impressive then, weren’t you? What’s with this act now?" The young man looked at Xu Ke, puzzled as if he didn’t understand what he meant.
Xu Ke nervously gestured with his hands before his chest, "It’s different. I broke their limbs because they were trying to harm people. By breaking their limbs, they couldn’t harm others, and that’s self-defense. But you’re different. If you kill, it’s murder. Although they tried to harm us, they didn’t succeed, and they got their due punishment. I think we should just let it go."
"Let it go? Do you know what ’let it go’ means in this context? Do you think if we let it go, everything will settle on its own? You’re too naive. If we don’t thoroughly eliminate them today, expect revenge next time. Do you think they’ll be grateful for your mercy? Don’t be naive. They’ll retaliate against you more viciously. Your mercy today will be their cruelty tomorrow."
In the young man’s eyes was a fire that left Xu Ke staring blankly. Taking advantage of Xu Ke’s distraction, the young man vanished before his eyes, heading to the space outside the warehouse, picking up a knife, and walking towards those still alive.
The young man was focused on dealing with the people on the ground, turning his back to Xu Ke and not seeing the amused look in Xu Ke’s eyes when he turned his head.
"Pretending to be innocent is truly an interesting thing, isn’t it?" Xu Ke said silently, watching the young man’s back.
The young man, dragging his injured body, killed those not yet dead, then painstakingly dragged the bodies to the mountain top and pushed them down, discarding the murder weapon somewhere, as he lost a significant amount of blood. His complexion turned pale as sweat dripped from his chin, making him look haunting.
The young man, gritting his teeth, returned to the warehouse, and upon seeing Xu Ke the next second, his eyes closed, the presence of someone familiar seemingly relaxing him, causing him to faint before Xu Ke.
Xu Ke’s face, initially shocked when the young man fell heavily to the ground, quickly returned to a cold demeanor.
The young man woke up in a hospital, the smell of disinfectant strangely comforting him. He never liked the hospital this much; when he fell in the mountains earlier, he thought it might be the end of him, not expecting to see the sun again.
Being able to smell, see the sunlight, and touch things, everything felt so blissful to him.
"You’re awake. Want something to eat?" Xu Ke asked, walking into the hospital room.
"No, I’m not hungry. Just some water." The young man replied weakly, looking at Xu Ke.
After drinking some water to soothe his dry throat, he felt much better, the burning pain while talking and breathing gone.
"Did you bring back the goods?" the young man inquired, looking at Xu Ke’s face.
Under the stare, Xu Ke nodded, and seeing this, the young man finally relaxed, letting out a sigh of relief.
"It’s good that the goods were brought back. My injuries weren’t in vain. Once these goods are sold, I’ll give you your share." the young man said.
