Chapter 790: Venting
Chapter 790: Venting
"Ask whatever you want." Claude glanced at Xu Ke and said, "I know you must have a lot of questions now. Since I’m in a good mood today, you can ask whatever you want, and I’ll consider giving you an answer."
"Not necessary at all. Knowing too much does me no good. Everyone is curious, but I can still restrain myself." Xu Ke smiled faintly, declining Claude’s offer.
Claude paused and looked seriously at Xu Ke’s face, "No matter how many times, you always interest me."
"It’s my honor to interest you."
"Even though you don’t want to know, I still want to tell you about this." A sly smile appeared on Claude’s face.
"With your powers of observation and attention to detail, it’s something you would find out sooner or later. In fact, I don’t have a close relationship with my father. He doesn’t value or love me as much as he appears to. He even wishes for my death. I’ve come to this stage entirely because he forced me to." Claude spoke, looking in the direction behind Xu Ke.
"He and my mother were together not because of love, but because the two families needed an alliance for benefits. My father is a womanizer, a butterfly dancing among flowers, and my mother was just one of the flowers in his garden. They could have lived well by just respecting each other, but my mother happened to fall in love with him, this flirtatious man."
Claude’s expression showed a hint of nostalgia.
"My mother was exceptionally pretty, and with her kind nature, she was gentle and thoughtful to my father. Soon, they fell in love after marriage, enjoying a sweet marital life until my mother became pregnant with me."
At this point, Claude sighed deeply.
"Due to the pregnancy, my mother quickly became corpulent, losing her former beauty. Standing beside my father, she seemed like a plump swan, devoid of any elegance. So, my father cheated on her. He started an affair with a young, beautiful girl. Unable to bear the blow, my mother chose to take her own life after giving birth to me."
It was as if Claude saw something he shouldn’t have; he gently closed his eyes.
"Then, I was taken in by my maternal grandfather for upbringing. I always thought he loved my mother — wanting revenge for losing a daughter to the Calvin family, wanting to destroy this family for her. But later, I realized it wasn’t like that. He simply wanted to possess the Calvin family’s wealth."
A mocking smile appeared on Claude’s face.
"See, this is humanity: greedy and ugly creatures. My grandfather wanted the Calvin family, and so did my father want to consume my grandfather’s family. My existence was merely a pawn in their struggle; they wanted to use me, yet deeply feared me." Claude laughed derisively.
"That’s my story. What about yours? What’s your story?" Claude asked curiously.
"Me?" Xu Ke lowered his gaze, his thoughts stirred by Claude, recalling his grandfather and parents.
"I want revenge, but I don’t even know who my enemies are. I used to think their deaths were just an accident, until later I discovered it was a conspiracy. I caught some of them, thinking I could avenge them, only to realize they were just small fry in this plot. Even now, I don’t have any more leads, nor know when I’ll be able to avenge my family."
Perhaps it was because he was in a foreign country where his identity was unknown that Xu Ke could finally speak freely about things he usually couldn’t.
"I didn’t expect you to bear such a deep vendetta. Compared to you, I’m much luckier; at least I know who my enemies are. I can simply keep moving towards my goal, while you’re still lost." Claude walked to Xu Ke’s side, reaching out to pat his shoulder, attempting to provide him some solace.
"I hope you can soon find the clues and personally take down your enemies." Claude said.
"I will, even if it means traveling to the ends of the earth, I will find them, grind their bones to dust, and avenge my family."
As he spoke of revenge, the murderous intent in Xu Ke’s eyes was as thick as storm clouds about to release rain, ready to condense into water and fall at any moment.
"I will fulfill my wish, and you, too, will soon achieve your goal." Xu Ke reined in his emotions, looking at Claude.
"Do you know what my goal is?" Claude raised an eyebrow, asking with some interest.
"I think your goal is to take down both the Calvin family and your grandfather’s family." Xu Ke said with a resolute gaze.
Hearing Xu Ke’s words, Claude burst into laughter.
"I really do like you the most. You understand me the best. Yes, my goal is to take down both families simultaneously. My mother’s death is because of them; neither of them should have it easy." Claude grinned, revealing his pale teeth, his eyes resembling a hungry wolf with a glint of green in them.
"So, what’s your plan next? Is there anything I can do to help?" Xu Ke asked.
"Of course, there is a place where I need your help. I’ve been waiting for this day far too long; I’m growing impatient. Since my father hasn’t settled down on choosing an heir, I’ll help him decide." Claude said, his eyes gazing far beyond at the vase.
Claude didn’t finish his sentence, but Xu Ke already understood what he meant.
"I’ll handle this right away, and I’ll deal with it as quickly as possible." Xu Ke promised.
"My father has had many children in his life. Some I’ve already dealt with myself, some I entrusted to others, and the remaining few I leave to you. I hope you’ll make them suffer, so they don’t enjoy happiness, including their mother. You won’t disappoint me, will you?" Claude asked, looking directly into Xu Ke’s eyes.
"Of course." Xu Ke assured with a smile.
"They’ve had their fun for so many years because of my negligence as a son. But soon enough, I’ll make them repay it all, including interest. You’ll be happy to see this in Heaven, won’t you? Those who once caused you pain will be in even more agony." Claude whispered softly.
